Interesting how many different results we are getting. I ordered mine (white 3G) on 7/11 release day @ 5 p.m., and received my Direct Fulfillment order on Tuesday 7/15:D
 
still no phone for me...i ordered Friday (7/11) at 11:45am, after showing not backordered all day yesterday, just switched back to backordered. almost everyone got theirs shipped yesterday. There are only five of us left from launch day to not have theirs shipped. Man this has been quite an exercise in patience. :rolleyes:
 
You can cancel if you wish.

I got mine at an Apple store and was able to cancel my DF order with AT&T easily by calling the store manager at the store I ordered from.

I know that question has been asked many times. (perhaps not lately, but FYI it can be done.)

Also, my Apple Store (Southpoint-Durham, NC) has gone to handing out a ticket based on their availability. You go, get in line, and they come out in regular intervals and hand out the tickets. The ticket is for a specific phone--you choose color, size based on what they have in stock.

You can then leave and come back whenever--you are guaranteed that phone that day. (And that day only!) I didn't realize this and had planned on waiting so I did, but a few smart folks got a ticket earlier in the day, then came back at 5 minutes before close and had a very short wait. YMMV.

My store isn't doing do hot either although it did ship out 21 yesterday at it saying 2 shipped today overall though.....

Shipped: 57
pending: 112

This does not count the fifty to sixty people behind me on the list (I ordered my phone on th 14th)
 
I ordered at 10am on Friday and I am still on back order. I don't know why but the 80 or so people behind me all got their phones before I did.

I ordered my Iphone on Saturday 7-12 at 10:30am

Friday 7-18 all day the status showed backordered.
Saturday 7-19 around 10am, when I checked, it now says shipped!

Federal Express shows that it was shipped from AT&T at 9pm 7-18 and now is on a truck for delivery at 8am this morning, Saturday 7-19.

By the way my Iphone is an 8G Black and I was told 7 to 10 days and now out for delivery on the 7th day and on the 7th day I rested.
 
Mine is not supposed to come till Monday but its already in my state but I doubt I'll get it today:(

SWEET! Ordered mine 7/11 @ 11:10am and it still hasn't shipped! W00t! People behind me in line have gotten the exact model that I ordered first 4 days ago!!!

I decided I had enough with at&t DF... So I biked down to the new boston apple store. Waited in line for 2 hours as an Authorized but not Primary account holder with a FAN discount. Dialed 611 from my phone while on the line and deactivated FAN discount... Nervous as all hell waiting on line. when my turn came I politely explained my situation to the apple employee and BAM! picked up a new 16gb black iphone 3G. Not sure what i'm going to do about my DF order but for the time being I'm quite happy :D:D:D

I ordered on 7/14 and only today did at&t fulfill the 7/11 orders from my store so i figured it could take as long as a few days to a couple of weeks to get my DF order.

If your apple store is in stock and close by just screw at&t. remove the discount if you have one get a phone and put it back on.

An update on my situation:

They never took my e-mail address, and they never sent any e-mail to anybody on the AT&T account regarding my order. Took me this long to Google the item number on the receipt, and I was shocked to discover that the girl at the counter actually ordered THE WRONG PHONE. I guess I'm experiencing the disappointing delays of the 16GB Black iPhones as opposed to the carefree "OMG I GOT IT IN TWO DAYS" feeling of the 16GB White iPhones. :(

The manager at the store refuses to cancel my DF (which is still backordered) so I can't pick up the phone at an Apple store. Even so, the local Apple store is sold out over the weekend.

Disappointing and frustrating, AT&T.

(Just curious--what's the item number for a white 16gb? The black is 69114.)
 
dunno if you want to risk it, but my AT&T DF receipt says that "you will have 7 days to pick up your order after you have been notified" so it looks like if you just never show up again they can't charge you. probably.....

also, you can check with your cc company and see if it's been charged or a hold has been placed, and tell them the situation and deny the charge. AFTER you get the phone at an Apple store, of course.. ;)

it sucks that the manager's that mean, esp considering they ordered the wrong phone! you might want to find the district manager and complain about him/her. unless you can find a time when the assistant manager is there alone... :rolleyes:

I was told by the CSR at my store that you cannot cancel the DF. She advised that if I did not want to wait, I should go ahead purchase from the Apple store and just not pick up the DF. She said they would just wait the seven days then cancel it.
 
Anyone else's credit card been charged yet it still shows backordered? AT&T rep said didn't charge until shipped but not shocked if that's a lie.
