+1 to above... back on the backorder list after 24 hours... so here's the dilemma.. i'm going to atlanta tomorrow, should i try and pick one up at the apple store, or just wait on the DF... I'm #2 on the list, but it's a 16gb black.. any thoughts (moved up from 8 to 2... everyone in front of me has shipped now except 1
Yeah, really. You would think with a title like Direct Fulfillment that they'd actually rush to fulfill the orders. Oh well. I have nothing to complain about. I was #130 two nights ago and now I'm up to #82. 48 places in two days isn't too shabby. There are only 4 from 7/14 left, and I'm the first one on 7/18, so I'm really almost on 7/17. Not that that matters
I'm only sad because I was off backorders until about 20:00. Didn't think I'd get shipped, but the bastards gave me hope!
By the way, for you people that think that someone invented a new queue checker, no one did. AT&T just re-enabled checking by order number and it just so happens that they didn't change the code for it. For all we know, they were revamping the order status page and commented out the lines allowing one to check by order number.
Oh, and run it locally if you can. At least that way there will be more than just a few IPs in their logs so it will take longer for the system to flag the problem to AT&T.
Your queue number doesn't matter. Some stores get a lot more DF orders than others. My store only has about 2 DFs per day, others have like 30-50. All that matters is your date, because they are filling orders based on when you ordered, independent of the store. So if I ordered at 5PM on 7/17 and I'm #1 in line for my store, I'll still get my iPhone shipped to me after someone who ordered at 4PM on 7/17 at some other store who might be #15 at their store.
7/16 8GB iPhones have started shipping to my store and others I assume. I ordered mine on 7/19 so hopefully that means mine will ship in 3 days or sooner.

I ordered my 16GB 3G on the 16th. The troll working at the AT&T store lied to me and told me there were only a couple of people ahead of me. I repeated to him, incredulous, "a couple?", which he confirmed. Turned out he was off by over a hundred. I had a bad vibe about him the second I started talking to him - one of these guys who is clearly too cool for his job.
Anyhow I'm up to 24th in the queue with 12 of those in front of me showing shipped or cancelled, so here's hoping it happens soon. Meanwhile, it looks like my local Apple stores will have plenty tomorrow.

The ATT guy that signed me up was a douche. He looked like he just hated his life and was SUPER annoyed i wanted to order an iPhone. All i did was walk in and when he said "how may i help you?" I said "I just wanted to sign up on the list."
I've worked some demeaning clerk jobs in my time and no matter how much I disliked my work, I was always friendly and considerate for the customers. So far everyone I've spoken to at my AT&T store seemed to have a chip on their shoulder. Meanwhile, the local Verizon store, from which I'm switching of course, has always been a friendly place to walk into. Go figure. If AT&T didn't have that damned iPhone, there's no way I'd switch.

Well, besides the waiting.... This overall process has been pretty fun!
I went in earlier today and picked up 2 of my DF 16-Black's..
I only had myself and another person at the time so thats all the phones we could pickup.
So I called tonight and spoke with the manager about the 3rd phone, and told him the situation that I wanted to pickup the 3rd phone, but without activating because the old sim would be deactivated...
He was very kind and just had me come in, and he just gave me the whole shipping box "unopened" and I walked out !!! Now thats the ATT CS im talkin about!

This is really great ppl's phones are starting to ship. I ordered mine the 15th and i'm still 10th in line. I think they are ramping up production some cuz just about every store is filling order everyday. That's a lot of iPhones moving...

I ordered a black 16 GB iphone on 07/17 at the 34th St store in NYC (zip code 10001). Just checked the queue, I am #33 and there are two more orders from 07/14. It looks like they are shipping more phones now compared to a few days ago.
It is painful to wait. I ordered it from the AT&T store because I did not want to spend the rest of my life going to the Apple store every day (I was never able to go early enough). But this is bad too! I check the queue every three minutes Oh well, I will have to wait.
I am hoping to get it next week although it is quite possible that won't happen.

On another note, I always wanted an iPhone, but never so ravenously... until I pre-ordered mine that is. I probably could have waited and been fine, but ever since I placed that pre-order, things keep escalating. I started reading more and more about the iPhone's features and limitations. I started researching accessories, cases, bluetooth headsets. Started checking out the app store and of course, started obsessively checking my order status. I'm crazed now, but honestly, I think I would have been fine if I simply waited and didn't place the pre-order!!

I'm hanging tight tonight at #3. Everything is back ordered at the moment tho so I'm not holding out too much hope. :/
I haven't seen any charges on my card either. I had a pending transaction but that went a way a few days after I preordered it. Hopefully I'll have word tomorrow. If it ships on Friday would I be able to pick it up on Saturday??
