I ordered my phones directly from ATT (not Apple). I am able to walk through all setup screens. No activation screen every appear on the phone or in iTunes.

My phone starts up and just says No Service in the corner.

Anyone else having this problem?

I'm having the same issue. I had a screen saying it was trying to activate, but then it just skipped to the next screen and says "No Service" now. Its like it isn't trying to be activated. Really confused.

Methods I've tried:

link to ATT to activate (error message but I bought through Apple)

phone w/wifi

phone with cellular

phone with either of the above with location services on & off

SIM out of old phone

Old phone off

Dialing 611 (again, I bought through apple so this didn't work)

iTunes

iTunes & phone at same time

and pretty much anything else that has been posted in this thread. I'm in hour 4 and still waiting to get active. Hopefully soon.....

You haven't tried reading through the whole terms and conditions have you? That will be my next attempt.

I did the chicken dance and then pressed the click wheel on my original iPod three times just before mine got activated.

Your results may vary.

Nope but someone else did that endlessly as well to no avail.

Trying chicken dance next :D

finally set up 4s!

I don't know who suggested it, but I turned off my iPhone 4 and tried to start again through iTunes with the 4s and it finally worked. ARGHHHHHH! 5 Hours later! Good luck everybody

Has anyone tried putting the phone in dfu mode then restoring? I don't know if this would solve anything or not....

Just called 611, They updated my hardware with the IMEI and Sim Card but said that iTunes is the problem because their servers are the side that are having trouble.

Well, it's been about 10 attempts for me so far once I realized that they were not really going to email me once my phone was activated and I was just wasting my timing sitting around.

The silver lining is that I've had time to put the protective film on the front and back of the device.

Back to trying again...

My phone didn't even go to the screen for activation. Right after asking if I wanted to restore from backup, it went to the home screen. How do I even reach the activation screen? When plugging into iTunes I see no where to activate it.

I went to the Apple store at the Galleria Mall in Fort Lauderdale today around 12:45. They tried to activate through AT&T's servers and could not get through. They wouldn't let me leave with the phone to activate it later either, which I thought was kind of weird. Is there a specific reason for doing this?

I just got through finally. I did it using cell data, but my guess is that it was just a coincidence. I've been trying every method.

To turn off wifi after you set it up, you need to select "forget this network" on the wifi list. You only have this ability after a failed attempt, though. It doesn't give you the option of forgetting the network when you press "start over."

Just went active while on the phone holding for AT&T support.

And I did seriously do the chicken dance, my daughter looked at me and asked what I was doing and laughed!!!

Out of morbid curiosity has anyone actually received an email saying the phone was activated ?

And for some humor while people pull their hair out.

Finally! AT&T 16GB 4S

Kept activating directly from the iPhone until it allowed me to enter the setup phase. Restore in Progress right now. Almost There!
Funny part is: I reached the restore from iCloud screen in the iPhone setup process and realized my 4 wasn't backed up, so I plugged it into iTunes and began backing it up to my computer when, when all of a sudden, lightning hits nearby and the power goes out haha! So here I am after 4 hours of trying over and over again and I have a 4S sitting here on hold on the backup screen and I'm rebooting my comp and unplugging my modem and router to reestablish internet connection. Took 15 minutes and I quickly backed up the 4 and plugged in the 4S to iTunes and it kept on going right where it left off.
All my apps are loading now to the 4S.

I think I'm half activated...

Been trying to go the cellular route when activating directly from the device. The bars on top used to be just one static bar, but now they actual show more than that. Still no AT&T in the top bar though. I shall keep trying. :)

LAMO! Received when dialing 611..."Due to telephone company difficulties your call cannot be completed at this time."

FYI just over 6 hours and still nothing for me...

me to, a few bars now.

I just inserted my SIM from my iPhone 4 into my 4S and it worked, no issues. Really weird. Didn't even go through the rigamorale of trying to activate it. But :) I suppose.
