If this is a problem, I am going to be pissed. I thought we were all grandfathered into unlimited data and $5 texting if we had it. If that's not the case, why were we allowed to choose it when selecting a phone? I would have switched carriers if I could not keep those.

I was on hold for 8 min, finally got through. Gave the guy my activation ID, put me on hold. My iPhone 4 dropped the call about 2 min into being on hold. However, I checked my 4s and it is now functioning. I'm guessing/hoping this was just a problem for me. My plan isn't crazy or anything, I'm the primary on a 1400min family plan with unlimited text and I have unlimited data.

Everything works, but that was a little annoying :/

Count me in. AT&T is ALWAYS the weakest link when it comes to the iPhone. Had problems preordering through apple.com at first because of AT&T servers validating eligibility now you can't even activate the phone because of yet again AT&T.

Just received this email from do_not_reply@apple

I have unlimited data, I'm guessing thats the problem. It shouldn't be an issue, I selected unlimited data for iPhone 4s upon checkout with apple.com. The number leads to an AT&T number that seems overloaded atm

That's not the problem. The 4S plan has failed to provision for some accounts. Don't worry! Yet!

Gotta wonder how AT&T activations are fairing in the stores... with all those lines....

After about a dozen "start over" attempts, I finally got it to think it was activated. Problem was, it didn't actually activate. So, after it restored, I swapped in my old SIM and all is well.

Wow I wonder what their server will be like tonight? Probably just as bad if not worse...

First time iPhone upgrader here; had a n00b question if someone wouldn't mind answering for me. So when upgrading your iPhone (I'm going from 3GS to 4S) do you need to put your previous phone's sim card into the new phone or do you just go through the activation process through ATT without switching the sims?

Jesus, this is only going to get worse as the day wears on too. Might have to wake up at like 2 am to get this working.

i guess it is a good thing the ups guy wont get to my home until later this evening

The later in the day the worst it will got. iPhone are being delivered like a wave across the US starting with the East and ending up in the West. I would say the server will be VERY busy with people trying to restore via the cloud from 5pm est for the rest of the night!

This is definitely a unlimited grandfathered data issue...

Even on the call I have been on for 20 min, the guy can't activate it, or I will loose my unltd' data. Needs a supervisor to override.

Nice hole they left there for us to fall into.

Has anyone with unlimited data activated their 4S successfully at home? Thinking about going to the AT&T store to activate so I can confirm that I keep my unlimited data...

I guess the question we should be asking is: has anyone with unlimited data been able to activate at home?

Not grand fathered in on unlimited data, or the $5/mo text plan and yet I still can't activate. Tried 3 times from the iPhone and one via iTunes, same error. Man AT&T, you'd think you'd be ready considering this is your 5th iPhone launch.

got my phone 10:15 activated with the network within 2 minutes and restored iphone from a itunes backup...i wouldnt use a backup from icloud at the moment as the servers are taking a beating right now....love love love my 4s right now

That is a ridiculous statement! It makes no matter what plan you are on as many who do NOT have the unlimited plan are having the same problems!

After 2 hours of continuous trying, I was finally able to activate via iTunes. Kept switching between phone and iTunes. I have unlimited data. So keep trying.

Success at 12:15PM EST! 34 attempts. Compared to the iPhone 4, I now have a consistent 3-4 bars of signal in my home; before I had 2-3 bars of signal in my home which would occasionally drop to 1 bar.

as frustrating as this is (I'm currently dealing with it also) it's nothing new.

There's a million phones getting activated at the same time, there are bound to be issues. I'm hoping I can get this thing set up before I have to go to work. If not, oh well, I waited this long 8 more won't kill me.
