Ok, so I called AT&T before I turned on my phone to switch the phone lines before I turn on the 4S...she switched the sim and all, told me to turn the phone on and it still showed that it would activate on the old number....not the number I want to activate under....is that server issue as well?

I did the same thing, still waiting to activate (and the on-screen prompts still show the old number I DON'T want to activate). Hope this works, eventually

It is too bad that you can't make your decision on which carrier to use until the point of activation.. Sprint would be getting a good bit of extra business right now if that were possible.

Ok, after two hours and many attempts mine finally activated.
To clear up some of the things discussed in this thread her is my situation.
I ordered it on my wife's line, but I will be using it. I was able to swap the sim card from my iPhone 4 once I got the 4s activated with no problem. Both phones have the numbers they should. Both of our accounts still have our grandfathered unlimited plans.

I would say if you get "Your Activation is Pending. You will received an email" page, you stop trying to activate. I bet so many people are retrying that it causing more harm than good.

alright, i'm gonna take a break. i have to go into the city to run some errands.... i hope that when i get back there will be some sort of hope.

my iPhone 4 better not cut off while i'm gone, although that may give me some hope that my 4S is ready.

I received my phone around 11:15 and activated the phone without trouble. It's weird that people are still having trouble.

Yes but it also says "There was a problem connecting to the server. Please try again later"

Ugh...stuck like the rest of you. UPS dropped it off around 11:45 central time and I've been trying ever since to get it activated. Tried wirelessly and through iTunes to no avail. AT&T is just the worst.

I was so concerned about waiting all day for my phone to arrive and UPS delivered it at 10:04 AM CDT. What I didn't expect was that 2.5 hours after receiving said iPhone and about 30 tries both via iPhone and iTunes that I would still not be able to activate it. Brilliant.

activated right away

I got my iPhone4S at 1:15 and it activated right away. I got an activation email link when I pre-ordered from AT&T. I clicked on the link, filled in IMEI and got activated right away. I am a Premier customer so maybe that helped.

I activated around 9:30am with no issues. Didn't even take 5 minutes.

Are the problem activations only new accounts, or are you guys just activating a new phone on the old number?

Over an hour now and still not activated!!!!! may take up 3 minutes is a joke, they should write 3 hours!!!
still trying.......
