I am going to order a 17 pro max base storage, I don't really care about getting in first thing this morning. I find the culture of "gotta have it now" pretty sad. Apple and other companies have done a great job of making people feel they need these things and it is going to drastically change their lives. I watched most of the event and the verbiage they use really irks me. They are changing so many lives.... if you can afford it.

I opened my link the SECOND 5am PST rolled around, was told to “wait here and until we can get you in the preorder”, waited about 8 min before I finally got in, ordered my blue 17 pro 256 with a delivery date of Sept 25. Not sure how I could’ve gotten in any earlier than I did, I assumed I was going to get Sept 19.

I don’t really care, the date is fine with me, just don’t see how I got bumped when I was there right at the dot.
I was in at 3 minutes after, pre-order already setup last night. Theoretically all I had to do was complete the purchase from my cart and be done, but shipping was already show 09/25 at that point so it was definitely a thing right out of the gate.

Maybe the 2TB ones are constrained or not available on the first day?
I thought so but according to the other comments it was all memory variants as well as 17, air, pro, and max models. Purchases of all sorts were affected.

I’m crossing my fingers it was a tech glitch at launch and will be cleaned up in shipping. If not….oh well.

Seems to me that right now all phones are availble launch day except for the Pro Max...
My 17 Pro 256 blue was Sept 25 at 5:10am, so like 2.5 hours ago, no store pickup available. Doubt that has changed for the better.
Maybe it depends on where you live in the world…

Edit- nevermind, wtf… I just went into the Apple Store app, setup the exact same phone, went to checkout, it says Sept 19 delivery AND it has the option for pickup.
What the hell is the point of preordering first thing if it just means you get shafted on the delivery day?
I’m tempted to cancel original order and redo it, but I have a feeling that will blow up in my face…

Second Edit- just placed the order again and got Sept 19 in-store pickup.
Cancelled my original order from 5am this morning.
So dumb, why did I have to wake up so early?!

Amazed the Pro Max is being scooped up so quickly by so many people considering it's the most expensive one.
Don't we see this every year? The type of users who do pre-orders and the type of users who opt for the most expensive model are often the same people. Pre-orders are for iPhone enthusiasts and the Pro Max is THE enthusiast phone.

I think it is more telling that the iPhone Air, which Apple is trying to market for a predicted different type of iPhone enthusiast, is not getting hit with a ton of pre-orders.

But honestly, that could just be because people are waiting for reviews on that one. I know if I was in the market for an Air (I'm not), I would at least want some reviews to tell me what type of battery life and heat I would be dealing with. It could be terrible or it could be no big deal but right now the Air has a lot of unknowns that the other models don't have.

I think the Air will sell will but the people buying it will want to see/hold it in person first.

It's not accurate. Not when you actually try to order it. No one has gotten an actual 9/19 shipping date for the Air, it seems like it was bumped to 9/25 from the start.
Not here in Vietnam. I wasn’t paying attention and didn’t realise the text of the page had changed (really piss poor of Apple to use the exact imagery and only a change in text) to say “stay on this page and we’ll redirect you”. When I finally realised it had changed it was 7:28 here (28 minutes after preorders opened) and I got my Air in Sky Blue with 256GB for delivery on 19th.

Yea, I think the Air is a big wait and see, and physically hold it, model for people who are interested.

I'd put money on it being a date glitch and order come the 19th.

Oof, I set everything up days ago, but forgot about it and didn’t remember until 9:30 eastern this morning. My orange Pro Max 256 GB is Oct 6-13. I saw that blue was available for pickup on the 19th nearby, but orange is the first color I’ve been excited about ever, so gotta wait.

I’m hoping for that. But there’s a possibility it may have depended on when you completed the pre-pre-order. The app and emails made it sound like “we’ll hold it for three days” almost sounded like they’re keeping inventory…..but I doubt they’d actually hold inventory for completing the pre pre order without actually paying. But, it’s possible.

I got my PM 512 in Silver around 10 minutes after they went live direct with Apple. I've been trying to get my Mom's though, and she is through O2 carrier in the UK, the system crashed during processing and for the past hour now, they have paused the store queue, assuming a tech issue for them, they're gonna lose a fortune though considering how impatient some people are.

Placed my Pro 256GB in Orange at 7AM PST, so 2 hours after pre orders started. Sept 25th is the quoted day, I could have picked up at store on release day.

Had the same thing with my Pro 16, but ended up coming on release day a few days early.

What are you talking about? The Air was literally 9/25 at the start of pre-orders.
Maybe better to hold off until the food arrives if one is looking for something novel with an iPhone and iPad combined function. iPhone Air is fine but value is not there and compromises when compared to the entry level iPhone 17.

Ordered two iPhone 17 base models as iPhone 13 Pro is being traded-in, don’t want to wait till value drops more.

There is no need to wait in store. I’ve always declined to have them prepare the phones for me. I take the new ones and go home.
So I’m part of the iPhone upgrade program. I’ve always done delivery but I chose in-store pick up this year due to the shipping date being delayed. So what you’re saying is I can pick up my new phones and then return my old phones via shipping? Do I need to request a trade-in kit?

Not really feeling the iPhone Pro’s th is year. I may upgrade next year from my 16 Pro to a Fold.

Had my iPad and my iPhone ready to go, phone didn’t load the store until 8:10am but my iPad let me in almost at 8am on the dot and i got my 2TB 17PM Orange in for pickup on release date. The ship date was already 9/25 then.

What an underwhelming launch. Demand and interest in this year’s offerings is tepid at best.
I can see why, colours are meh, Pro models lack innovation to substantiate the price while Air seems compromised. Hoping next years Fold hits a home run.

iPhone 17 on the other hand is the winner this year, ordered two as those family members are upgrading from a 13 Pro.

In my experience, if it isn't a launch day delivery, usually delayed orders do not arrive on launch day, but sometimes will arrive several days before the quoted later date.

ie. If launch day is Sept. 19 and quoted delivery date is Sept. 25 to Oct. 1, it sometimes might arrive say Sept. 23.

I had my pre-approved config (512 blue Max) set yesterday - just as I've done since they started offering this process. At about :4 after, I was allowed in to one-click complete my order. Before doing so, I notice my delivery date was 9/25. Confused, I checked silver, orange - they all offered 9/25 deliveries and no in-store pickup (I'm in Denver with 4 stores within a 20-min radius). I've been on iUP since it debuted. This cycle will be the first time I will not have a launch-day device dating all the way back to the '07 debut. While it's [obviously] not a big deal (it's a friggin phone), it was certainly surprising. OT be fair, this is the first time I have ordered a Max. Still, 9/25 is unexpected. But, closer to my 9/29 b-day, so... 🤘
Same here. IUP. I’ve never gotten one not on launch day back to the OG iPhone. I have seen this happen before though to other people and I think it happened to me once where they quoted a ship date a week later and then everything got updated to launch day after they did their assessment of how many they had or something.

I had the same problem with the Pro (Orange). At 503 AM PT the store let me in and it immediately said shipping to arrive 9/25. But I could pick up in-store on 9/19. So I'll end up picking up in store on the 19th. Works out better that way anyways to be honest - UPS/Fedex always ends up delivering the new phone at like 3 or 4 or 5 PM on launch day anyways. I'll have it earlier in the day this way. I'm just not looking forward to having to swap my phone in the store and have it take an hour or two. (do they have USB-C cables that can connect the two phones to make the transfer faster?)
