Yeah I was able to get my 256GB iPhone 17 Pro in Cosmic Orange ordered within two minutes and it already gave me 9/25. I do iPhone Upgrade Program every year and I’ve always received on launch day. Is it because 256GB is the base now? I would typically buy one level up from base, but have no need for it this time.

Nope. I ordered pro max deep blue 1TB within 3 minutes and also got 9/25.

It’s funny how a lot of these devices are showing available for in-store pick up and I can’t help but believe that this is a tactic. Apple is using to make people lineup at the store and it looked like there are more buyers and they really are.

It’s free advertising.

Doesn’t change the fact that this year’s lineup is pretty mediocre at best

If the air had come out with a silicon battery, then that energy dense phone would’ve been a lot more well received.

Probably next year’s upgrade
The reason why in-store pick-up works is as people get tempted or persuaded to touch and feel accessories and that is additional revenue with mark-ups plus possible looking at other devices to potentially upsell. This rarely translates to sales when shopping online as in-store is more impulse driven.

No that is NOT the reason. It seems a LOT of us on the Upgrade Program had this same issue. May order for the 512GB PM Blue model was placed 1 minute after the hour and did the same. I could find (and can still at the local store) for hours the same phone available on 9/19. I sure hope Apple fixes this but... no way to know if they will.

I hope the design is more seamless than just squishing two phones together. That’s one thing that bothers me about current foldables, there’s no fluidity in the design. I expect the opposite from Apple. Hopefully.
recent rumors have pointed out that apple's foldable will have a seamless hinge system so that the fold is nearly imperceptible...

No way I'll even consider spending anywhere near say $1999 for a fold, esp. if it has inferior cameras.

...and here I am when I thought the same thing before I spent $1K on the iPhone X and then around $1300 today for the iPhone 17 PM.

If Apple releases a compelling enough product, I think we are perceptible to justifying the costs that Apple demands...

If you're willing to spend $2000 for the fold, that's fine, but that's completely off the table for me. Not even a consideration. And in fact, if the cameras are worse, it would be a dealkiller even at say $1799.

I will have no problem spending close to that kind of money for a 6K monitor this year though, from LG for example.

Are you seriously telling people to buy a refurb of a one year-old model in a iPhone 17 series thread? Really?

BTW, third party refurbs are pretty hit and miss, including so-called certified or premium refurbs. Furthermore, some third party refurbs are not eligible for Apple battery replacements, so if you want to replace your battery 3 years down the line, you may not be able to get it done properly by Apple.

I'm on iOS 26 on my 12 Pro Max. Some things like CarPlay are light years better on iOS 26 than they are on iOS 18. Totally different league.
Yes I am.

No offense to anyone who bought one, but I’m not surprised the Air didn’t sell out right away. I don’t see it being a top seller. It’s too expensive and niche for mainstream success. Once the buzz wears off, the focus will shift solely on the Pro.

I personally think it's positioned wrongly. The pitch seems to be this is a Pro phone in a slim body, but apart from the chip the regular iPhone beats it in every aspect.

They should drop the Pro chip and price it closer to the regular phone IMO if it's to be a success

Yeah, they screwed that up - put the A19 in it and maybe it would've sold better because price would've been at least $100 less? Or maybe Apple did the math already and decided the only way to justify the price for this phone with this kind of design would be to include the A19 Pro chip (binned version) so that they could keep their margins on this product? Maybe??!?!

Pre-ordered my iPhone 17 Pro Max 256GB in Silver/White. Delivery 19/9 (UK).

Already received my Purple TechWoven case, which looks and feels great.

There isn't anything on the iOS 26 feature list I care about, and the mess Apple has made of the UI for no good reason makes it something to stay away from for another year. I'll put the OTA blocker on the 16Pro and keep it on iOS 18 until there's some zero-day Apple doesn't patch.

exactly. I tested this theory , seems there is a real system issue here. if you go and pre order, it says delivery for 9/19. As soon as you go to the pay page, it says 9/25. I ordered at 8:01am ET, and got 9/25 but when I added it to cart, it said 9/19

Same for Pro delivered to California. At the same time, they were available for pickup on all stores around me on 9/19.

Maybe Apple have decided to prioritize self-pickup:
  • Cheaper for Apple
  • Less limited return options
  • More cross-sell opportunities when people come to store and end up buying accessories as well
I think this would be a wise business decision.

Isn't that the same as Apples refurbishment process, except you just get an Apples users old junk instead?
No.

Amazon is a reseller. They don't refurbish anything. Instead they make available gods know what from gods know who.

Apple is the OEM. Have access to parts. A refurbished phone has a new battery, has a new screen if it needs one, etc, etc.

Apple’s ordering system is absolutely useless. Every year it is the same problem and it seems they don’t care. I tried on the app and on my MacBook and couldn’t get into the store until 6 minutes after the original time. I was able to order the 17 and 17 ProMax to deliver on 09/19 but they were not available to pick up at any of the 6 Apple Stores around me. WTF 🤬
What problem is that? A whole six minutes? The horror!

This is the first year I was not able to get iPhone on delivery day because Apple couldn’t authorized my ApplePay. Did all the right preorder selection including ApplePay info. Had preordered iPhone 17 Pro Max, Orange, 512. As I kept trying with ApplePay…delivery dates kept sliding to October. Switched to silver finally approved but delivery at end of Sept. Today was an extremely bad experience

Availability is either very good or sales are really bad. (At least here in Europe) Everything easily still available.
Well, at $1500.- and $1600.- for the Air and Pro, respectively, im surprised if anyone buys them in Sweden.
one would think the tariffs were the other direction.

I had no delays or issues. was in at 4 minutes after the top of the hour (said this way for time zone purposes) and STILL didn't get delivery of EITHER pre-order until 9/25. Apple really really really just loves to make loving them hard.
