worst sales i've ever seen this year. pros are still available for pickup on launch day. base too.

the air is available in nearly every color, on launch day, even with delivery

I'm not sure why this is a surprise. Phones are like washing machines now, the day's of exciting launches like the iPhone 4 are long gone

I was in at 3 minutes after, pre-order already setup last night. Theoretically all I had to do was complete the purchase from my cart and be done, but shipping was already show 09/25 at that point so it was definitely a thing right out of the gate.
Pre ordered before pre order btw. Depends. Example, I chose Apple Card 0% trade in unlocked carrier election Verizon. It was set to 25th. Cancelled and changed to pay in full with trade in no 0%. Changed to release date delivery for the 19th. I don’t know if Apple is playing shenanigans or their system is borked.

No offense to anyone who bought one, but I’m not surprised the Air didn’t sell out right away. I don’t see it being a top seller. It’s too expensive and niche for mainstream success. Once the buzz wears off, the focus will shift solely on the Pro.

As mentioned earlier, here in Toronto, the 256 Pro Max is completely sold out in all the many Toronto are Apple Stores. However, a few of them have 1 or 2 higher storage models available.

I think the Air will sell significantly better than the minis ever did, but nowhere near as well as the Pro Max.

I can see why, colours are meh, Pro models lack innovation to substantiate the price while Air seems compromised. Hoping next years Fold hits a home run.

iPhone 17 on the other hand is the winner this year, ordered two as those family members are upgrading from a 13 Pro.
Hey, don’t forget the brave decision to abandon titanium in favor of alooominium 🥱

most enthusiasts who pre-ordered this morning knew or were under the impression that this is Apple's foray into the folding phone business - as many of us and as Mark Gurman pointed out quite recently, their folding phone will be released next year - take 2 iPhone Airs and put them together and you get Apple's answer to the Android folding phone market.

I…see the 19th right now on the site?

Anyhow.

I feel like 'faring better' is interesting phrasing here since it actually means that demand was probably overestimated.
No no, as the other user said, both pro max and air had a bug that said 9/19 but when you added to the cart, it changed to 9/25. This was happening to everyone starting 1 minute after launch.

So my guess is Apple is behind manufacturing if those dates are right. Or Apple’s website has a bug.

This was USA Apple.com

No way I'll even consider spending anywhere near say $1999 for a fold, esp. if it has inferior cameras.

Maybe in a few years when Apple releases a flip, for much, much less money, I'll consider getting one. In the meantime the already expensive US$1199/CA$1749 17 Pro Max will suit my needs well for years to come.

Can’t be. The die hards on here claimed the air would fly off the shelves and everyone not liking it was just hating on it…🤣
They did? I don't recall that. It seemed to me most people were more realistic about potential Air sales.

As I look at my 14Pro - which was in such high demand when launched, i’ve now learned to wait - and yes hear what all the youtubers have to say about the launch edition. These will all be worth about $300 in just a few years, and a non-ai iPhone may be worth holding onto.

I hope the design is more seamless than just squishing two phones together. That’s one thing that bothers me about current foldables, there’s no fluidity in the design. I expect the opposite from Apple. Hopefully.

You may not need or want an AI iPhone, but there is literally no advantage to a non-AI iPhone (aside from saving money from not upgrading).

Anyhow, I've personally waited long enough, with my 12 Pro Max. My wife with her 14 Pro Max will probably wait 2 more years though.

It’s funny how a lot of these devices are showing available for in-store pick up and I can’t help but believe that this is a tactic. Apple is using to make people lineup at the store and it looked like there are more buyers and they really are.

It’s free advertising.

Doesn’t change the fact that this year’s lineup is pretty mediocre at best

If the air had come out with a silicon battery, then that energy dense phone would’ve been a lot more well received.

Probably next year’s upgrade

Again, it's all regional. In my region of Toronto, the 256 GB Pro Max sold out in all colours hours ago for pickup at all 10 stores within something like 250 km of me. There were a (very) few higher storage models about an hour ago though.

Not sure where everyone else is ordering from, but here in Germany all the Pro Max went to a shipping date in the middle of October within minutes. I ordered the moment the store opened and got a 29. September - 7th October shipping date.
Here in Toronto, a few people were able to get Sept. 19 delivery dates for the Pro Max, but most of us got pushed out to Sept. 25 or later. Now it's at mid-October. There were a couple of high storage models available for pickup locally on Sept. 19 when I checked a while ago, but not many.

Fake scarcity. Apple makes millions of these things. Lol

It’s possible. They always have to tell the truth, but I think there’s a little bit of this wiggle room on a typical iPhone pre-order Friday and over this very weekend to manipulate the stock market markets for Apple stock.

It’s the one area that Apple is allowed to tell a white lie. Or to propagandize just a little bit without getting called out too badly

And I think the comments here do matter somewhat for the Talking Heads on CNBC sometimes

There’s lots of stories we can make up about everything and the one I like most that sounds the most reasonable is that Apple has been doing this for so many years they pretty much know how to handle the demands to maximize their sales and come up with the numbers That will beat the street and bring in more than $1 billion every single day from now till Christmas

I get a new phone every two years on my phone plan. I suppose I’ll be getting one of these pros. I find them quite ugly to look at, but then again I don’t really spend much time looking at the back of my phone. I guess the upside is that I’ll appreciate the backside of my 15 pro a little more for the next month until the robot face one appears.
