Quality is great except I am ticked off that Nicktoons and TeenNick are not in HD. Come on 2016 and you have the nerve to show those channels in crappy 480i pillarbox. I already prepaid a month so I am still getting a Fire TV stick as I was planing on buying another one anyway. Also Sling.tv carries Nicktoons an TeenNick in HD so since I already prepaid for 3 months to get a Roku stick I will be giving DirecTV Now until February to get those channels in HD.

The reason you can "watch it for free" is because those affiliates paid a crap ton of money for the rights to transmit that content.

Yes, I understand. The problem I have is that I can pay nothing to no one, and plug in an antenna and watch those channels. If I pay for my TV service, all of a sudden I can't watch those channels anymore unless my provider forks over a boatload of cash to the affiliates. That should be full on illegal. You are either a free service, or a premium provider, they shouldn't be allowed to cherry pick from both when it best suits them.

My Playstation Vue was to renew today, but I cancel it yesterday, subscribed to DirecTV Now at 6 AM, now all setup. I hardly ever used DVR, 2 streams is plenty as we only have 2 TV's in the home. ESPN Go app is working which is the only Go Anywhere App I used, the others I can login to the DirecTV Now and view outside the home, unlike freaking Playstation Vue where hardly anything works outside the home. The price is cheaper, I have more channels for the less and that includes 3 channels of HBO. The guide is nice and overall I am pretty darn happy. DVR will come next year and I since I rarely used it anyway... I can certainly wait on that.

Can I both do the 1 week trial, and, if I like it, I can sign up for 3 months and get that free Apple TV?

Or is that 3 month sign up to get a free Apple TV only an option if I haven't already done the 1 week free trial?
Yes. When you sign up, you get the week free, and are given the option of prepaying for one or three months. If you prepay for 3 months, they say you will have your Apple TV in 2-3 weeks.

THIS is what Apple should of tried to do from the beginning. Signed up for the 100+ channel w/ 3mo prepaid for a free AppleTV (that alone makes this a steal). I can now buy an AppleTV for any room I want to add a 'receiver' to without paying the absurd price the providers ask (ironically, even DirecTV).

Finally looks like pay TV providers days are over. The only scary issue is that now most internet providers are now putting caps on their service. I'm limited to 1TB with Comcast, and have gone over that cap once already. This won't help that situation. I wish competition like GoogleFiber was available here, but politicians get bought out and block this from happening. Sigh

Someone tell me -- if I subscribe to this, does it give me the "Single Sign On" I need to make other channels on the AppleTV (Disney XD, FX Now, etc.) work (i.e., watch all content, not just a few free shows)?

Those channels are already included in the package.

is everything just "live"? Any DVR or VOD options? just Live is a non-starter for me but I'm curious to try this service. Also, are you in a location that you receive the live, local OTA stations?

VOD options, DVR in 2017.

If you mean sign up for the trial and then after the trial is over, sign up for 3 months to get the TV, then no. You have to do it from the beginning to get the devices.

This is like a very plain Jain version of Sling or Vue. Still has a ways to go before catching up to those two other services.

But I can't complain as I won't pay anything for the service for 3 months once I sell the Apple TV they send me.

I am just used to the DVR and other stuff Vue provides. So it seems odd to go from Vue which has all the features, to Directv, which is like a work in progress.

You should lock in the$35/100 plan now, when cloud dvr comes you can drop VUE, thats what I am doing now,
I VUE $64.99/100 plan. I came from Directv SAT 2 weeks ago at $191/month.

Working in HD for me. Maybe it's your connection or device that you're playing it off.

Viacom doesn't have a HD feed of TeenNick and the Nicktoons HD feed isn't carried by most satellite/cable operators (it isn't in HD on DirecTV or Dish).

What are the channel line ups i can't find them anywhere, do you have to sign up 1st before even seeing them?

Anyone that went through the process know if you can get both the Apple TV free (if you sign up for three months upfront) AND the 100 channels for $35 or are those exclusive deals?

Looks like movies and tv shows are on demand but no cloud DVR it seems. Hopefully that comes soon then I'll drop the hell out of Comcast TV

Thanks. Yeah, I found this list that shows which channels have VOD, but I assume it's a show by show basis.

https://cdn.directv.com//content/dam/dtv/gmott/html/compare-packages-account.html

Also, looks like for DFW, live channels are only NBC and Fox, and looks like NBC has a disclaimer that makes it seem like it wouldn't be available on the AppleTV or Amazon Fire Tv "**NBC live stream available on mobile and desktop devices only"

doing the math, getting the $35 package (the Go Big $60 package) and paying the remainder 10 months of my Dish network ETF would still save me $105 over the next 10 months. But, only really having Fox as an OTA channel and lack of info on the DVR makes me hesitant (VOD would be fine if it is every show I watch; DVR would be great for sports).

How in the world do you sign up????? SO frustrating. I click the "Start your free trial Now" button and keep getting directed to a page saying "Where in the world is your storage?". WTF is with that? My Safari preferences are set as directed, but for the life of me, I can't find where the hell to sign up for service....

Any help is greatly appreciated.. Thank you in advance.

It'd be nice if we could get something like this in Canada, but we're eternally at the mercy of the Rogers and Bell.

You have it pretty good in Toronto. Atlantic provinces are a disaster - there are no startup cellular providers and rogers doesn't have good coverage so we're REALLY at the mercy of Bell.

Yes they do. They are in full HD on Sling.TV. Having HD channels downressed to 480i is pathetic. 480i should be outlawed in 2016 or they should start making CRT TV's again. Only 480 looks good on a CRT TV but on a HDTV it looks like crap.

I haven't gone through the process, but from what I've read, you can do both.

Even if you don't use the service for the three months.. you're basically buying an Apple TV for $105 instead of $149. Great deal!

I did both. I have Sling but hell, $105 (3 months prepaid) to get a $149 Apple TV for free.. no brainer. If you don't like it cancel after the three months and you got a great discount on an Apple TV.

I've read a few posts here and elsewhere on the web with people not going for this because there's no DVR.

What's the difference if you don't have DVR about they allow you to watch the previous shows on demand? I understand if some shows aren't available but people have been dismissing this since before today without all the details.

Most of the time those on-demand abilities means they only give you say the last 5 episodes, not the whole show. So some like to DVR things and not watch for weeks/months.

So the $35 limited time offer for the $60 package. How long does that go for? Do you lock that price in for good?
