So there is no way ever you are going to be able log in with you "normal" Directv subscription here... I would love to have access to an Directv app on Apple TV. There is only mobile IOS and android apps available now.

So far so good yesterday on my ATV.

Switched between watching the wife's shows on Lifetime and Shawshank on Spike with a little stutter here and there but not worse than watching on the apps themselves. I'm digging it so far. Didn't check to see if any local channels in UT were available but I'll try it out today.

1) I read on the Verge that 5.1 sound is available...does that mean Dolby 5.1? When I watch Netflix on my ATV4 my television has a header that says "Dolby Digital" to confirm it is working. On DirecTV Now I don't see that header...

2) Does anyone notice that the sound is WAY louder through this App? For example - on my Xbox/TiVo/etc I have to have the volume around 35. On the DirecTV Now app I only have to play it at 10. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this.

mine is louder to on some channels. Even louder than the sling app.

So far it's working tonight as opposed to last night (fingers crossed).

It does seem a little louder than other apps, but I'm not noticing any audio distortion.

Have you noticed any slight lipsync issue? I was watching the Golf Channel this afternoon and I noticed the sync being slightly off. Went to the U-Verse Golf Channel feed and it was fine. Just curious whether this is a general issue (more than me, more than Golf Channel) or just a local glitch.

Volume is definitely louder than my U-Verse feed.

I just got an Apple TV as part of the 3 month prepayment with DirecTV Now. I can log in to HBO now on a computer because I am a DirecTV Now subscriber. However, it does not allow me to login to the app on my Apple TV. Anyone know why?

To clarify, is it HBO Now or HBO Go?

I didn't see a whole lot of quality content over all those 100 channels. So I'll go with the smaller and less expensive package from Sling. Antenna for PBS and local stations can fill in the rest.

Suggestion.... get the Channels app and pair it with an OTA tuner from SiliconDust. That way you can use the ATV for everything

Tried to watch basketball tonight on CSN Bay Area and it said the program is not available on DirecTV Now? The channel is but they restrict content?

Not liking that...

EDIT: Ah, available on TNT instead.

I am staying with Sling. You might not get many channels I get the ones that matters but it actually works and they are all in HD unlike DirecTV now (Nicktoons, Teennick, CSPAN 1&2, Telemundo so far) the ones I found in crappy 480i yes 480i in 2016 when 4K is becoming popular these channels are back in 1990 PQ.

I quit cable nearly 4 years ago. Comcast would give a special offer for a limited time then jack up the rates. I watch a limited amount of TV and $100 to $150 a month was just absurd. So I figure I have saved over $4000 for services that I would have never taken full advantage of. This deal, to me, gives me a new Apple TV for a very reasonable price. I can enjoy some extra screen time during the winter months. If I think, at that point, I would watch more, $35 is not such a bad deal. So far, I have found the service to be very good.

My only constant tech issue is that I have channels freeze every now and then without restarting.

Same. It's happening on my pc too. Also have had channels just die on me, screen goes black, and then an error that they having trouble retrieving content from that channel or something. Rebooting the app sometimes fixed it.

Trying to be patient. Launch hiccups and such...not as enthusiastic about the service as day 1, though. Not sure if I'll make it past the free trial.

The only thing keeping me here is the amazing cost savings. Even with two accounts I am saving over $60 a month when factoring in receiver fees, added costs and such. I've even added HBO and Starz via the Apple TV for less than the cost of HBO alone. That's a pretty big savings. Things are improving day to day and the freezing at this point is only happening during peak hours. I would suspect they will load balance their servers. Reminds me of the early days of World Of Warcraft where you couldn't log on during certain times.

Other than the morning news/weather, I don't have any desire to watch live TV, and this lacks DVR. So my primary interest in this offering right now is going to center around their OnDemand offerings and if I can use the DirecTV credentials for most/all standalone channel apps. On that last point, the last I read was that there were only a handful of channels that recognized DirectTV credentials, whereas it seems like PS Vue works for a lot more of them. Is there an active list somewhere of channels which are adding support for this?

Yes. It is on help.directvnow.com. Just do search. I don't have actual link. But not a lot at this time.

Yep. Same thing on my ATV4. Grrr!

Same here too.
I also keep pressing the Menu button to go back to the guide, but instead it exits the app. And if I change channels very quickly, the audio will go away, no sound in the app or in any app in the Apple TV, I have to restart the whole apple tv to get the audio back.

I can't count the number of times my finger would inadvertently barely swipe across part of the remote and the channel would change. Arggg!!

Noticed the same thing.

Anyone but me disappointed that 5.1 audio is only for "certain" VOD feeds? Guess that's not a big deal if comparing to PS Vue as it 2-channel but coming from U-Verse which is mostly 5.1 audio, stereo audio is pretty unacceptable, particularly if I were paying the $50-60/mo tier.
