Does AT&T customers get to stream Direct TV now without using data or is that deal only if you get the Direct TV bundle (not their streaming service that the unlimited data cap applies to).

I have read this post 5 times. It seems to go around in circles.

Not sure what "bundle" you are referring to. The streaming service does not charge you data using AT&T cell service.

What other service are you referring to?

So far I think it is actually a good deal for what you get. Even tho I know this is very bad for net neutrality Im loving the no data limit on streaming it. I gave it a test drive this weekend and found no issues

You can get an unlimited data cell plan if you bundle with DIRECTV satellite service.

What people are trying to figure out is can you swap out regular DIRECTV for DIRECTV Now and still get the unlimited data cell phone plan.

Directv Now is a completely different service from Directv. The two are not interchangeable. So no, you cannot switch out.

Updated, been using the app for almost a month now, see updates below.

OK, been using this for a few days now. Mostly positive but a few glitches, hoping they iron these out soon.

POSITIVES:
  • Price is right. Decent amount of content for the price.
  • Free ATV4 with 3 Months pre-pay.
  • Video quality is mostly decent.
NEGATIVES:
  • Navigation is confusing. Seems that the same gestures take me to different spots without reason. UPDATE: With time, this is no longer an issue...
  • Guide is minimal, lacks program descriptions (perhaps I have not stumbled on the trick for this yet).
  • Took time to learn the navigation to top and bottom line content. Bottom line Watchlist and categories (Movies\Shows) missing a Sports and News category.
  • Freezes, flickers, audio dropouts occur with some frequency. No issues with other ATV apps, so this is apparently a server-side capacity glitch. UPDATE: This seems to be getting worse, and seems to occur more during prime viewing period. Perhaps there is an issue with the app as others report iOS doesn't seem to have these stuttering issues. This alone is likely to prevent me from continuing the service after the 3 months, but then maybe that is their strategy?
  • Error on startup that I am maxed on streams when no other devices are using the app. I find that I have to kill the DTVNow app from the app switcher, then I am able to watch again. Makes me wonder if content continues streaming when the app is in the background, despite no audio or video. UPDATE: No longer see this, I assume there was an update to the app that resolved this?
  • Content, particularly locals and ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox live are missing and not likely to appear anytime soon for smaller markets. I use Tablo for OTA local content, so this is not a show stopper, but would be nice to get this in the DTVNow app.
  • DVR functionality, particularly pause\resume\replay would be nice, and that is apparently in the future plans.
  • Single Sign on support is missing, supported for Sat subscribers but not the Now service. Others report DTVNow credentials will work on individual apps, have not tried this yet.
It seems this was pushed to get into the market, bugs and all. I am hopeful most of these negatives are addressed before the 3 month pre-pay period ends. Despite the long list of nits, on balance this service seems to be a good value and promising if the app gets some fine tuning.

I still feel like part of it is in early beta/alpha as far as the UI is concerned. I am still having to re-add all my favorite channels each day, as well as re-doing my watch list. I noticed that the watch now section is still not polished.

For example it can show three different boxes, for three different programs. On one box there is just simply a name of the program. The next box will show the name of the program, and a picture of an actor on that show. The last will actually show proper cover art for that program. Seems as if parts of the UI are finished and polished, while other areas are a work in progress.

We are definitely in a fine tuning/beta stage. Today has been flawless but I'm sure all will change at "prime time", which for me happens around 4:30-11PM Eastern.

I realized my locals are in the clear from my cable company since they are my internet provider. Just have to plug the coax into my TV and that solves any local issues. Just workout these freezes and I can jettison sat.

This is a deal breaker for me, I basically watch everything from my DVR and I can't imagine watching a show these days without being to skip through the commercials. In the end, it seems like the prices for the main service and the streaming service are comparable, only you don't need their hardware for streaming and you lose the DVR ability.

Sounds like Hulu would be a better fit if live TV isn't something you need. I'm the same w/ Prime Time TV but I also need live for sports. There are some options for me to get around this but if you really don't need live TV, why not just get Hulu and an antenna to get OTA channels?

Why go through all that when what I currently have allows me to do both? Until the streaming world is able to offer the same features I'll just stick with my Directv Satellite and DVR, I get that it's still in its infancy so let's see how it goes in another year or so.

Sure. But if others are looking for an alternative now so they can cut the cord, it's still helpful info.

Same here. But you can verify that you got in on the Apple TV (or Fire Stick) deal: Go to Acccount/Payment History on the web page, and expand the initial one-time charge. It should show the promo offer device.

Perfect! Thanks! I checked and it shows an order number and the Apple TV. At least I have something to refer to if my ATV never shows up! It's strange that they never sent out an order confirmation e-mail. I even checked spam.

EDIT: Like the folks below, I also just got confirmation of the ATV shipping! My tracking says it will be here by Wednesday. Mine also just showed my Unit # in the shipping address, but it sounds like that's not a concern based on what's below.

The streaming price with the lifetime intro price is close to intro prices for their Satellite service, but won't go up after the intro period. So, in time, it is $35 versus $100 or so.

Which seems like a logical choice, in my case I'm happy to pay more for the functionality I want.

Just got my ATV shipping email.

same here. My email only show my name and apartment number in the ship to address though. does your email show the correct ship to address? not sure if the email pulled the wrong info or if they will actually try to ship to what it says in the email

Same. Just my name, apartment number, and city/state. The actual address is not listed.

The email also says get it by 12/9. The tracking says it will be here tomorrow though.

thanks, I just called them to double check and they said they shipped to the real address they had on file. the email scared me a little.

Is there a way to get DirecTV Now through a web browser?
Yes, but it doesn't work with all browsers. Firefox and Edge are not supported at all, and Safari and Internet Explorer require the Silverlight plugin. Even then, I couldn't play my local stations (ABC, NBC) in Safari. Chrome works best and does not require a plugin.

They should really work on better browser support. I suspect the limitations have to do with DRM.
