    Guys short question,
Do I really need this big backup file of my phone?
Can I just delete it and put it somewhere in the cloud?

    thanks

if you have your phone fully backed up in icloud ( it should be taking a similar amount of space, though might be less if photos are synched in icloud, as they won't be in icloud back then ), then yes, you should be able to get rid of it if you wish.

If you drop your phone in the toilet, do you want to be able to restore to a new one?

The upside to those backups is if you have the encrypted backups option selected in iTunes, it includes the passwords for all your apps in there. So if you ever have to restore to a new iOS device you would not need to reenter all those app passwords. For me that is a huge benefit and makes it worth the space.

But otherwise, if you have everything backed up to iCloud and don't mind reentering all those user names and passwords if you have to restore, you can delete that.

Backup is an imperative that you must not lose your invaluable data like photo, documents, and videos.
