Places that already need to be redesigned: privacy, accessibility and general. Currently keyboard navigation is barebones, so checking if you have everything set up as you want e.g. in privacy is cumbersome, what took few seconds in old preferences now can take up to half minute at least. I don't mind that it looks like phone UI now, I do mind that it controls like a phone too.

If they are to go this route it will need tidying up as I agree some of it is very clunky and takes too long to find and do things. However I suspect it will be a ‘put up and **** up’ until Mac OS 14 where they will move something around and stay quiet about it until beta testers report back in ‘the little changes’ thread.

I think it's fine. The width is as wide as it ever needs to be, and you can max out the height (on 5K monitor you can see the entire list of Settings categories).

The point being the long scroll list approach doesn’t seem the optimal route just because some have big screens whereas the old system probably more useful for any size screen.

Shane you can't resize the window to the right

The whole thing seems very cluttered now and I can't find half the options that were so easy to in the old days
use the search window. then, over time, you won't need to anymore because you'll know where things are.

you got used to 'sys prefs', that's why you can find things there. you'll get used to this... and it will be the same; you'll know where things are 👍

use the search window.

Which is only usefull if you know the name of the setting you are searching for.

If I have to "get used" to a settings dialog and if I have to remember where settings are, for me this clearly is a sign of a very bad UI design...

The old ways are the best ways.

If it ain’t broke etc .. typing this on a zx spectrum 😅
right. are you saying that tech should not advance? and who determines the 'right' moment to stop development?

we could all be watching black-&-white picture-tube tvs, driving hand-cranked cars. making calls on our landlines (once the operator connects us).

progress happens. things change. change can be scary, but ultimately... rewarding. and i for one love that.

why? didn't you, with your first mac, have to get used to where things were in preferences?

It was way more obvious, there where no „hidden„ settings no scrolling and the icons where big enough. So no, in the old settings dialog itwas much easier to find even if you did not no where to look.

then i guess you'll adapt over time... but am sure, like all of us, you'll adapt.

settings may be more involved, but so are the options we have. anyway, once you learn your way around (and again, there's always that 'search' window), all will be well.

No absolutely hate it.
Just bought a M1 MBA and I really dislike the way settings now look, hence why I'm here on this thread.
Is there any way I can make it look like old style?
this new UI is so cluttered and hard to navigate, the exact opposite of what it used to be.
who is making this flawed UI design decisions at Apple?

I have to say the whole MBA M1 doesn't feel as snappy and as fast as I thought it would be,(I use 2015 iMac 4K Intel i5 3.1Ghz with upgraded SSD Mojave) honestly I am a little disappointed.

was Monterey setting UI also like this?
I upgraded to Ventura immediately.

your MBA should feel snappy; worth looking into.

and how long have you had it? give 'settings' time... you'll adapt, life will go on, and (someday in the future) when apple changes it up again, you'll miss the ventura settings.

It’s an inferior experience (settings UI) vs preferences.why should anyone “give time” to something inferior to get used to it?

It’s cluttered and too small to browse through easily.
Nothing is going to change that.

yes, in your opinion, it's 'inferior'. many people (on the forum, and, apparently at apple) disagree.

either way, your opinion won't change the reality of it. so you can adapt (which might take time), or revert your entire OS because of it; a place most of us spend very little time at. your call 👍

It's too easy for some to bat away when people complain about Mac OS but they can't hide the fact that the chorus of complaints is growing as every iteration (and might I add, unnecessary regular iteration) comes out.

Nope. You fked up your M1 by installing Ventura 😅 My M1 Macbook Air works wonderfully with 12.6.1. Not a good idea to upgrade to whole new main version before they fix stuff. I would recomend you to roll back to latest Monterey if you can and wait longer so they can fix Ventura. I will wait at least few iterations before even thinking to upgrade to Ventura.

so, 12 people complaining becomes...13? 20? vs how many macusers worldwide? and what's the goal: to get apple to see that 20 people on the macrumors forums don't like the new settings, so they'll have an emergency board meeting, and change it all back to the old 'preferences'?

not liking something is ok. but adapting is the only move; that, or rolling back one's OS (which, to me at least, seems absurb; giving up advances in the tech, improved underlying code... and moving forward). how often does anyone need to visit settings? and how hard is it to use the search window in settings? 🤔

so, you roll back to monterey. then, one day, you need a new mac, and it comes with <drum roll>... ventura. and you have to then adapt...
