lots of people like it (i do). i think it's a more mature, logical app now. either way, it is the present and the future, so you'll adapt, and then, one day, you won't be thinking about it all, and you'll just be using it.
Nope. I will leave macOS if this hot mess isn't fixed.

Once I got used to it, I realized I like it better. With the old setup I was always missing the icon I was looking for while seeing every other icon. Having them in a vertical list format is so much better and easier to quickly find the setting I’m looking for. Ventura is probably my favorite update so far.

I normally right-click on the Dock icon to choose which settings I want to go to directly, so the layout of the full settings app is largely a non-issue for me.

That being said, I already got used to it after a few weeks and kind of laugh a little at all the people who say "I will leave macOS if they don't change it back" – mostly because we all know they aren't going to leave the OS and thousands of dollars worth of hardware/software investment simply because Apple changed some icons and the appearance of the preferences window.

you'll abandon the OS because you don't like the look of system settings... how much time do you spend there?

still, you can sell your mac, get a PC, get new versions of your apps, and all will be well (until you find something on windows you don't like)... 🤔

I use Windows every day at work and know it well. It's a soulless experience. macOS is becoming like that with this moronic Ventura. I will not pay big money for Apple hardware if it is run by an OS that is not better than Windows. So for now I'm staying on Monterey but I am done with Apple once I have to get a new computer. They simply have lost what once made Apple great. Anyone with long term experience with Apple can see this clearly.

Nobody, absolutely nobody is going to start using macOS because of this asinine system settings change. But people WILL leave macOS because of it. I certainly will, assuming it's not fixed properly. My software investment in macOS is minimal.

Possible certainly, but very, very doubtful. Love to see some stats on this…maybe a forum poll?

MacBook and apple user and skeptic until September 2022.
What I love about Ventura is the single window option
and the system settings which is more fluid to navigate.
Ventura might be the best OS Apple has released!

Im also using El Capitan on a MacBook Air 2010 and I saw "message not sent"
so I got worried then realized the text was another program (safari) under my email window.

This won't happen in Ventura, one one program at a time!

Off topic: but that little mini HomePod is outstanding!

Nobody, absolutely NOBODY starts using ANY OS simply because of the layout of the System Settings/Preferences.

I doubt anyone will leave the macOS because of it either. But you could end up proving me wrong by selling your Mac and deleting your account here (not that I want you to, but if you don't own a Mac, I see no reason why you would stay here)... since Apple is not going to go back to the previous System Preferences model. They'll update and enhance it, but they're not going back.

Why would I delete my account? I have an iPhone and other Apple products. Apple isn't screwing up them the way they are the Mac. For whatever reason, only the Mac gets dumbed down so that the lowest comment denominator is happy.

Having used OSX / MacOS since the last generation prior to the first Intel notebooks, I must say it's the least crazy idea they have comes up with in a while.

The new rounded corners and vertical button layout is far worse.

I have to disagree with this sentiment. I absolutely hate the new system prefs, but people buy macs because they're fantastic machines, that offer great performance and long battery life (for laptops) You'll not see a teenager starting college opt for a Dell, beacause of how the system prefs are, or a mom/pop seeing the system prefs at the apple store and walk out because it looks so bad. Likewise, you'll not see graphic designers or developers using the Mac see how bad the Sys Prefs are and sell their macs to by a Dell/HP/Some PC. It just won't happen.

Ventura needed a new approach to configure the operating system more efficiently.

Im using El Captain and Ventura now and these are 2 different planets OS wise.
but they both seem to work for each function.

The system preferences on El Cap makes sense having a row of options because the programs can be full screen or split screen. While the system settings make sense in Ventura because there are several programs on the left.

Also there are a lot more operation system presences in Ventura than El Capitan
having the rows an icons like older OS will clutter and make navigating more arduous in Ventura.

I hope this sheds some light on Ventura and the new system settings,
and I do admit that this new approach is to have iPad users
know how to adjust their screen brightness on their new MacBook without any effort or asking  support.

Maybe Steve Jobs will beam down and sprinkle fairy dust on it for you 🙄

None of this makes sense, unless you post screenshots of what you mean by "programs can be full screen or split" and "in Ventura because there are several programs on the left".
And what is "there are a lot more operation system presences in Ventura than El Capitan"?

I was going to post photos of what I was trying to type.
but then I realized we are not going to change the Ventura System Settings.

my point and message was a realization how the new iPod like system works great in Ventura
but won't in El Capitan, I just can t prove this, just a thought.

they both work great!

Yes, I think it is better. It was very difficult for me to scan through the icons to figure out which was which.

However... (Yes, there is a rant coming)
It used to be called Control Panel. Then it was System Preferences. Now it is System Settings.

Who is the dope in Cupertino who thinks changing the name helps you figure out what it does?
Luckily, this clown didn't rename things like "Trash", "Finder" and "Hard Disk". it's just stupid. We all knew what Control Panel did and changing the name doesn't help anyone.

thanks, I feel better now.

you do realize that there is a world full of people who didn't come up on 'classic' mac os, or os x... and that, two seconds after you see it's now called 'system settings', you now know what it is... 🤔
