  • No notch

Yeah, but it's really not. If the claimed performance is even CLOSE to accurate it will be a huge game changer for the users it's designed for (hint - the clue is in the name)
yeah, but it actually is. such an ugly piece of garbage

hint - PRO users are the ones hating the notch.

Designers, Architects , Photographers,

Youre obviously not a pro since you dont get how visually distracting that ugly garbage sticker is in the middle of the screen for REAL professionals

But wouldn't you rather have both?

The iPhone notch mostly fits within the MacBook's newly thin bezels. The iPhone has had 1080p front-facing video for years, and it has even MORE sensors packed into that small area.

Don't let Apple gaslight you into believing the notch was necessary here. It was not. In a few years, they will shrink it by 20% and call it a "Revolutionary" achievement.
100% !

Also very ugly play by apple

Yes, I love it! Because it matches my iPhone!
oh my god ? facepalm

I signed up just to vote 'no notch'. I hate it.

Completely ruins the rest of the amazing laptop.
Thank you!

I understand this is a made-up excuse so you don't have to spend several grand on a laptop, but that's fine. I and others are happy since less people in line = shorter waiting times ?
Wow ?

Why do we only get 2 rounded corners instead of 4?
Apple crack marketing team

Which one did you buy? Or are you just voicing an opinion with no skin in the game at all?

Like many have said... given the choice of much thicker bezels or the notch. I voted with my wallet and ordered one.
why would he buy that garbage? dont tel me you got one lolz ??

wow.

it really makes you think about humanity doesnt it

No Face ID and this slap in the face. ?‍♂️?

I returned my 14" MBP because I couldn't handle the PWM. I didn't notice the notch that much during use but it looked horrible the times I did notice it.

The thing is I could be completely ok with the notch if the webcam was stunning but it wasn't anything to write home about. It wasn't much of an improvement over the 13" MBP M1 camera so I don't feel like the camera in my 13" is much of a downgrade at all.

I am amazed with hoe many people voted YES notch?!!?

srsly, rly?? wtf ppl?
Probably because the notch is mostly irrelevant and easy to ignore, while letting them move the menubar area outside the main screen area without making the case larger. It’s a small benefit for a minor visual blip.

You can easily learn to ignore constant elements in your visual field. Try closing your right eye and then look at the edges of your visual field. If you pay attention, you can see your nose taking up space but it’s always there and you just start to ignore it. The same can happen with a notch. that is the way most people handle the notch on the iPhones.

Prepare for a hot take:
Peoples obsession with bezel size on mobile devices is idiotic and backward.

The notch is a bad solution to a dumb problem. But it’s the best bad solution we have. Pinhole and pop up cameras are lame.

Consider: content is made for rectangular screens with sharp corners. This is a hard fact. Having the display go all the way to the corners doesn’t give much more real estate than having a rectangular screen. And when viewing content there has to be compromises (i.e. space filler) to compensate.

Likewise, bezels on mobile devices give more area to grip and handle without touching the screen.

As far as solutions to the “problem” of bezels go, I’d say the notch is the best. But that’s not a high bar.

Hideous, even uglier than the one on the iPhones.

to put a notch on a laptop screen was the worst decision since Olaf the hairy, King of all the Vikings, ordered 80,000 battle helmets with the horns on the inside (cit).

ummm

I agree with the hot take.

You know whats a better solution? Dont do it. Just dont do it.
You said it - obsession with bezell size is idiotic znd backwards.. I agree.

Problem with the notch is that its visually distracting, and looks as if your new car had a dent in it. Its just a really really bad design decision. I also agree with you. On the iphone if you want to have a screen edge to edge (which is valuable on a small screen and not so much on a large one) - notch is the best solution for a problem. I defended the iphone notch. But on the MAC BOOOK PRO. where you are suppoased to have professionals work on it - to have a dent in it - it# just wrong - on so manny levels.

It feels that the obsession with smallest bezzel ever (which is insanley idiotic) lead to lets force this design no matter what.

And even then - they actually could have made it smaller. Theres no reason for it to be so big?!

Its literally as if someone actually thinks NOTCH is a good thing. And judging by this thread lots of people here do. Which just drives the point to base - not averyone should even be allowed to vote, some people are simply dump as chimps… (not anyone in particular here, but on general - yes)

Comparing a Surface Pro 7 and a 14" MBP as I have just switched. The total distance from physical edge of lid to start of the pixels that constitute the screen is very much the same in the area below the notch. My eyes currently see the visible menu bar as extra screen - not the notch as a reduction. I'd rather the notch than an increase across the whole screen.

The Surface camera also never worked properly - coming on when it shouldn't, remaining on, and then not working for face recognition at others. Never been sure whether it is soft/firmware or hardware. Just crap. Hoping the MBP camera works more reliably!

It's quite interesting.... after 10 minutes of hitting myself in the head with a ball peen hammer, I don't feel it anymore. ;)

I'm looking forward to the day when the front-facing camera is located in the dead-center of the screen (under the display).
