Yes you are, along with 99.999% of the rest of us out here.

I highly, highly, highly doubt that 99.999% of people who've purchased an iPad have ZERO issues. There are some people on this thread that returned an iPad four or five times until they got one without a dead pixel or screen yellowing.

Personally, I've had the opportunity to see three different iPads up close. On all three, there were defects. One had bad backlight bleeding, one had two dead pixels AND backlight bleeding, and the third (my current) has backlight bleeding. I'm not saying my experience is indicative of overall quality, but the fact that I've seen three iPads with similar problems means there is a higher defect rate that .001%

I'm sure it's an issue of people not noticing the problems. Take my father, for example. He used the iPad for an entire weekend and never noticed the backlight bleeding on his. That's because his primary use for the iPad is internet-type tasks, during the day. For me, the iPad's primary task is movie and TV watching, at night. Therefore, I'm much more likely to notice the backlight problem.

I have perfect ipad after the exchange of two that was not so good. My 1st iPad wifi 16gb was perfect until I too notice the bleeding light coming from the bottom right and left conners. I was watching a movie in dark room, it reminded me of my first alu macbook. I came to the macform and notice that not many were talking about this last week. I went to the apple store in stonetown San Francisco for exchange. The 1st guy was rude and told me if made an appointment but since I went on Sunday morning the guy had to help me. I told him that problem and I didn't want to get it fix, all i just wanted an exchange for new one. Took the new one home and open to my surprise this one had worst lighting coming from the corners and one dead pixel in the center of the screen. One hour later I was back again to talk to someone but this time the dude that help me was extremely nice and notice the bad light and the center dead pixel. I was ready to just give up and return everything, but the guy was very helpful and came back with a new one. I ask if can open it 2 check and see if everything was ok, first thing a wanted to Check was for dead pixel but the screen was bright and perfect, I took about 5minutes before saying this was the one. The guy was very cool and told me if I notice anything wrong with it bring it back for a new one. We pay so much more for apple products that they should be flawless, yea the light in the corners is not showing at all:)

Disappointed in Apple... Really Disappointed

So, apple did the diagnostics on my iPad, they decided there was nothing wrong and sent the following message.

Thank you for choosing AppleCare Service.

Our technicians have performed full diagnostic checks on your IPAD 3G and have been unable to reproduce the symptom(s) you reported when you requested the repair. As a result of our tests, we can confirm that your product meets Apple specifications for performance, usability, and functionality.

As a part of our assessment and test procedures, your product has had the latest software and firmware updates installed. It is now being returned to you, and you should expect to receive it within two business days along with a letter that provides details about our assessment as well as useful troubleshooting tips.

Apple

I was not happy with this response because this backlighting issue is not common, even as stated by the tech support guys on the phone. I spent 40 minutes on the phone with apple now. I am still pissed but they are forcing a replacement for the issue. My original iPad is in the mail back to me (2 day shipping with no tracking number) meaning it won't be here until next week. I sent it out on Tuesday of this week. Not only that, I will have a new empty box arrive at my house probably tomorrow that is for me to place my new original iPad in and ship it back once it arrives (a day or two later). They will then overnight it back yet again, and the forced replacement should be sent. Now the funny thing is that from a replacement that could have taken just a few days we are now looking at about 2 weeks. This is sub-par service from apple and while all of their phone support guys have been very respectful and understanding the people working behind the scenes disappoint me. Yet another disappointment is that there was no option for an advance replacement given despite my issues with their support. Looks like it is time to send an email to Steve and see if we get some sort of response.

Long story short, I didn't spend 900 for an iPad and case and shipping that didn't need to be paid extra to be without the device for 2 weeks when paying for att service, which att store support said they couldn't pause. This is probably the worst experience I've had with apple and makes me wonder if I should be getting an android phone next time.

Well, I've been going back and forth, and I finally made a decision.

I was taking a look at my iPad a little more closely, and to my amazement, there are now a number of dead pixels. I'm 100% positive that these were not here before.

So, I decided that I'm definitely taking it back tomorrow. I'll update this thread when I get back. Wish me luck!

Good Luck

Good Luck tomorrow! wow this has almost been hell... luckily there are some good tech support guys at Apple who have empathy. Would be nice if there were an Apple Store closer, so there was less inconvenience. The whole receiving an empty box before my iPad gets back and sending it right back makes me feel like a middle man again.

Dead pixels on this device are absolutely unacceptable.

I have ONE on my screen and it drives me crazy AND I was one of the lucky ones to get a defective iPad that freezes during video. So I'm exchanging mine tomorrow. I'm going to check my new iPad before I leave the store to make sure there aren't any dead pixels.

What's most frustrating is that I LOVE the iPad. It's probably the coolest piece of tech I've purchased in the last 5 years. But there are these little nagging problems that keep it from absolute greatness.

have ipad in a dark room with solid black displaying... i doubt if any ipad has no bleeding in a dark environment.

Sorry, what are you using to show the solid black display? Best I can come up with still shows the safari navigation bar.

Honestly, I think those who are claiming perfect screens, in reference to no backlight bleed, are not performing the test correctly. I noticed, for the most part, the bleeding is almost identical between my wife's and my own. Same levels and just slightly different areas of the screen.
