Damn, I just check this out by recording and shaking my phone and can confirm I also have this issue :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

Model: iPhone 5S 32GB Space Grey,
Production Week: 42 (October)
Factory: F2 (China, Zhengzhou - Foxconn)

Now that I've noticed it, it's starting to annoy me and it's bugging me, even though I don't think I will be in a situation where I am recording videos with a lot of 'shake'. I wish I never clicked on this thread now! :p

Has anyone had any success returning their iPhones for a replacement? How easy was it to get a replacement issued?

Thanks
So basically you bought the phone one month ago and didn't realize you have "a problem" until you started shaking your iPhone while making videos ?
What an "issue" , uh ?

I am in Korea. There is no physical Apple store, everything is done online. I am on my 5th replacement. The rattling noise is my issue. I have been sent replacements over and over again. The Apple Care is amazing here though. They send replacement phones than someone comes and picks up the old phone the next day so I am never without an iPhone.

However on my last call I was sent to tech support, explained my problem and was asked to do a diagnostics test. The guy said everything is fine. I told hime this was a hardware issue, not software. He gave me a case number and I was reverted back to AppleCare.

If you have this problem, ask for a case number so when the issue is resolved, they have your issue on record. Replacements should be easier now

My 4s 16gb has a rattling volume button
My friend's 16gb 4 has no rattling
All iPhones at my local apple store don't rattle

Thanks for your reply! Let's just wait and see then. Hopefully, your new iPhone 5S will not have this annoying rattle. Keep us posted. ;)

New unit arrived and is week 42. Rattles just like the earlier units so now awaiting another refund from Apple. :(

I think I'm on my 6th replacement 5S. All but 1 suffered from the annoying rattle.

Every time you bring it up to your ear, rattle-rattle...
Every step you take, rattle-rattle...
Every time you sit it down, mega rattle-rattle...
Every video you record with it, rattle-rattle in the background...
When it vibrates on a solid surface, super mega chainsaw like rattle-rattle.

I was really looking forward to this revision with touch id. Now I'm only looking forward to the refund tomorrow.

It is like it is

The iPhone 5s rattle issue, is known by apple and is an accepted issue as many people don't care.
If you care you should not buy the iPhone 5s.
I can understand everybody not accepting this issue at such an expensive phone.
A good alternative is maybe to buy the iPhone 5C. You can buy the 32GB version already for nearly 500,00 Euro, that's a very good deal for the technology you get.
You will have no rattle issues with the 5c. It's a very solid phone.
The A6 is more than enough power for iOs7 and for the most important phone stuff like whatsapp, icloud, mail, safari, calendar and even mostly all games.
Don't waste time of your life with things like rattle issues.
Just leave it behind.

Cheers K

I just bought an unlocked 5S and have zero rattling. I've been violently shaking it in all possible directions :p

I have a week 47 iPhone, it rattles a lot. It's just a lottery and has nothing to do with the production week. I doubt it that Apple will fix the 'issue'.

I had got the 5c and used it for a couple of weeks. No rattling at all and a very solid phone. It just had some screen interlacing issues.

I now have a sim free 5s. The power button rattles and the volume keys rattle as well. But it only happens when I shake the phone deliberately. During normal usage I don't even notice it or realize it.

Put me in the "it doesn't bother me" category.

No rattle here but I touched another and the button "felt" different. Didn't rattle either but wasn't exactly the same as mine

Does anyone have an iPhone 5s that DOESN'T rattle?

Hi guys! Got back a delivery from Apple. Or should I say from my Swedish carrier. And guess what? They gave me a completely new phone from China. With same rattle. :D And I don't really think this can even be fixed, because the design of the chassis is what it is. I am 100% assure that this thing is on EVERY 5S. But also on a 5. So You who can't live with this, simply buy another phone. You who can, You've probably bought a case as I (hello Pinlo Slice3) and have decided to live with it. It has no other "problems" than this one. And as for me, I decided to keep it. Simply because I can't find an other phone with my demands, even if Sony Xperia but also LG G2 were really close (especially Z1 which I almost bought today).

So now You know guys. There are no such thing as a "perfect phone", because that phone would had erased all others from the market long ago. Like Nokia 3210 once did. Interesting however that some users here reported no rattle what so ever, which I now strongly doubt that they had. If iPhone 5S from Australia to USA have exactly same thing (yes, I talked with some magazines and people), then everyone, yes E-V-E-R-Y-one has it. And as I thought before, Apple can't recall all 5S in the world because they can't fix them. Because, they must redesign everything and that will cost a big bunch. So that's why you can't hear any rattle from 5C or 4S and 4, and other devices because they are not designed in aluminum.

I really hope I made myself clear now, and now I know it's nothing wrong with my phone. Or Yours. Have a nice Holliday and please move on. It's a phone, not a Ferrari. ;-) Thought I never would say that... ^^

I had one that didnt rattle so every single 5S doesnt rattle. Now I'm just trying to get a phone with no screen interlacing which is a bigger problem, dont care about the rattle anymore :D

An iPhone 5S without either the rattle or screen interlacing probably doesnt exist.

Maybe not in the USA (suppose you are from the States), but in the rest of the wide, wide, world, yes. They rattle and they will rattle. Don't need to change my phone 2000 times to realize that. :p So 99% rattles, 1% may not, but may have other issues instead. However, this will be very interesting in the future and also if it will affect Apple's status as "premium manufacturer". And it's PR.

Btw, checked that screen-test and also others, so my 5S is pure and safe. :) Everything runs okay, even Touch ID.

Looks like Google/LG is aware of the problem and has already addressed a fix.

Thank goodness my phone is perfect. I thought I'd a nick on the back but when I removed the plastic cover it went away. Probably dirt. :D

No touch id issues or rattles:)

I did go through a gold one which had a loose power button and a scuff on the white band, then 2 space greys and then this one I dropped lucky.

My iPhone 5s rattles a little when I shake it hard ,but then again so did my iPhone 5.

With the leather Apple 5s case fitted their is no rattle.

It affects nothing during my daily usage.
