Right...the one in Saint Charles is the one that Maps tried to take him to.

The fact that the one in Geneva came up as well and I selected it is beside the point. As you can see, the pin is red. Both came up.

Yes, he searched for the store - this is what it came up with. The other pin is where the store is. When you did the search it came up exactly like this also - you SELECTED the other one and said it was the users fault. When you changed the search string it selected the right one.

Do you really think that means FAIL and that the user "fabricates" issues?

What happens often? People ask for a store in a specific town and Maps wants to take you there?

Please read my follow up post explaining what he did wrong.

Call the number in St. Charles, THE STORE DOESN'T EXIST! It's closed, has been as that mall is a friggin ghost town. lol Keep defending the turd. I also did not know there was one in Geneva, but WTF is the point of search if I have to insert every town? There isn't one in Wayne either, maybe I should have turned around and just went home. Notice what I searched, the exact store name and what you searched. Not apples to apples comparison is it?

Like I told another guy, why don't I call a given restaurant and ask them to go out back and put a flare.

It'd be awkward for there to suddenly be two Maps apps on the iPhone. It just doesn't seem like something any sensible company would do. Not to mention it'd slow down the improvements to Apple's Maps initiative because not many people would use it, being beta and all.

"...beta and all."
Since when was Maps meant to be beta?

My understanding is that beta software is normally optionally installed by the user, not uninstallable and touted as the "greatest thing ever".

Don't get me wrong, I don't use maps - I use TomTom which works flawlessly.

but...

Tell us again when apple told us that Maps was beta?

You're not another of these "apple can do no wrong sort of guys" are you?

.

Hmmm I guess Google Maps makes the same mistake....

User error...he said Saint Charles when he really wanted Geneva.

Misspelling the word "outfitters" on Maps is a stretch as that had nothing to do with him going to the wrong spot. Nice try.

The same guy you chastised for telling you that smart people traveling to an area they aren't familiar with would be wise to call said restaurant to verify location and some other items. I stand by methods as I've travels for work for over 25yrs. I know how to do it right. In the case of American Eagle, if you don't know if the store is there, take a moment, call them and verify. It's just the smart thing to do as no system is 100%.

I just got back from a week of travels that included stops in OH, IN and central IL. Zero issues with iMaps. In fact I even went in skeptical and double checked nearly all of my stops with Motion X and the in 3 instances even used my cars built in GPS to be a third data set. Funny enough, Apple was the only one that had the hotel I stayed at that is nearly brand new at 3 months old. My car which is Sat based and Motion X both missed it. Apple nailed it.

What part of "I did not specify city, I'm looking for the closest one to my location" do you not get? What language would help you?

I'm not talking about misspelling the word "outfitters" I'm talking about including the full name of the store. Typing in "American Eagle Outfitters" in Apples search bar doesn't even bring up the one in Geneva. It sends you to a store that is non-existent.

----------

...and You forgot to mention that Google Maps says: "This place is permanently closed"

You should really stop discrediting people with stuff that can be easily checked.

up to date info from google? How useful.

The fact that clicking on the info for that location saying it is closed is irrelevant...if it came up closer, someone would have selected that pin and went there.

When I mentioned Saint Charles as being selected, I was obviously referring to the second poster who mentioned it. He is the one who said typing in American Eagle Saint Charles doesn't bring up the correct store. My mistake if I applied that error to both of you.

Why would you go there when it says "closed"? You make absolutely no sense at all. Face it - you trying to pin this on the user failed, why not leave it at that? Why is it so important for you to be right?

OMFG....the pin comes up! Do you click on every pin to see I fit is closed? Or do you see where a location is and get directions to go there?

In Google you would have had to not only click on the pin but then click on the name for the "review" to see that it was closed.

Again...nice try.

Try using Google maps in safari on your phone. The one is St. Charles doesn't even show up BECAUSE IT'S CLOSED! Might on the desktop, but I'm not carrying around my laptop. Please just stop. lol

it does and it notes it as closed once you click on the pin.

iPad....clicked...doesn't say it's closed unless I click a second time...just like I said.

This pic is exactly what comes up when the pin is clicked...

You can't get to the directions without seeing the big yellow bar saying it's closed - so what is the problem for you here?

In Google you would have had to not only click on the pin but then click on the name for the "review" to see that it was closed.

I don't care - you accused the user of manipulating a result and not being able to use Apple Maps properly. You have been proven wrong and it apparently doesn't compute...

For the last time, AMERICAN EAGLE OUTFITTERS. Look at your search bar. Use the actual stores name. I can search American Eagle near me and end up at a cab company.

Hmmmm...clicked on directions after that location comes up...I guess it doesn't say it is closed (unless you click on review like I said)

Edit...do you not see the word "outfitters" in the search bar?

Edit 2...iPad is mobile version as pictured..right? Clicked on pin...clicked directions...gave me directions to that location. No mention of it being closed. Sorry.

Just so we're clear, that's how I searched for and got the results shown.

Yes...as your pictures show, you clearly clicked twice to see that it was closed. Any normal person would have seen two locations come up, picked B because it was closer and then hit the directions button to get there...and as I showed above, no where in that who.e. process does it say it is closed. Try it.

Then a normal person would would less than intelligent to do so and get routed to a closed location. I stand by my previous posts, if you're not a local and familiar with the location and thus would know it's closed, be the smart traveler, click one more time and see the details and/or press the call button to confirm the location and perhaps a landmark or cross street.

FWIW, I do the above regardless of the GPS/Navigation System if I don't know the store or location is there. The end result will only be as good as the data and the user together. If you think having the best GPS is all there is, you're mistaken. I've been with plenty of people who have gotten lost or mis routed with any number of different systems. I always laugh because calling is most typically way better.

I'll say it again, people need to put the Technology aside and "engage with humans" I laugh at people using Google Street view to find parking spots, or limitations, etc.. Just pick up the G.Damn phone, and talk to a person who can give you better first hand insight quicker than jerking around with a web page. YMMV

LMAO....ok, so then google maps searches differently on our phones.

What the heck are you talking about? What hoops do users have to go through? You buy a plane ticket ON YOUR MAC and you get a popup asking you if you want to add it to your passbook. Then it is added ON YOUR PHONE. What hoops exactly do you have to go through I don't understand. It is called passbook, you know, it needs passes.
Okay, heres the process we went through to get the Target Coupon passbook on our iPhones last week.

1) Open passbook (which has no passes, but does have a link to download apps)
2) Download Target App
3) Register to Target.com
4) Have app send you a text to verify your identity
5) Click text link to authorize
6) Go back to Target.app to enable mobile coupons
7) Click 'Add to passbook"
8) Go to Target and show passbook barcode to use coupons.

Well, its quite a bit of work to get it going (and I doubt my mom or wife would make it this far before quitting). But thats why I did it for them. And now here's our real world usage when we went to target today.

[PASSBOOK on Left] [TARGET APP on Right]

The one on the left is what was pulled up in Passbook. Its all INVALID since its expired 9/28. I checked settings and everything is set to auto update but it didnt, so I opened the Target.app and under mobile coupons is the one on the right with the correct VALID coupons.

So essentially passbook did NOTHING for us because it couldnt even pull up coupons that were usable. Obviously people will deflect and blame Target, but I blame both sides because whatever this system is supposed to be then "It doesnt Work". :apple:

This is coming from a diehard apple fanboy- but in my opinion, iOS 6 is a total failure. It's main feature, "Maps" is a disaster. Its other main feature, "Passbook", isn't even really useable yet. And the rest of the updates are so minor you'd really have to dig deep to find what they were.

The responsibility for this failure is on Scott Forstall. He's heading iOS, and I bet he must be facing a lot of heat (or at least I hope). I love the iPhone 5- it's such a fantastic phone, but I truly feel it's been let down by this update. I wonder what's going on?! Did you guys see him during the iPhone 5 event? He almost looked bored and showed zero enthusiasm- all the while touting maps as the best maps ever, which clearly isn't the case. It's shameful.

In any case, things obviously need some shaking up on the iOS front, and it mostly falls down on Forstall's shoulders.

Bingo. Apple needs to fix it's software, and needs to fix the battery for their hardware.
Since Scott is overseeing the iOS department, he is definitely at fault.
