So still nothing about an actual topic of this thread?

Oh sure. I'll take it right from the top.

Does Apple Think People Are Dumb?

So, the review is in and basically iPod Touch kind of sucks, but apparently Apple thinks that people will pay top price for it anyway. Why? Because you do not have any other choices.

One trollbait topic, one demonstrably untrue statement, and one statement divining the intent of people you've never met or known.

9/10 = Kinda sucks, huh?

Why, here's another kinda sucks review, 5/5:
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2368786,00.asp

So you are wrong in both tone and substance. Thanks for helping me clear that up.

I remind the OP that he is buying an iPod, not a camera. If he wants a portable camera with good resolution, he can buy one. If he wants an iPod, he can buy one.

And should we dismiss that the older iPod shot at zero megapixels?

I should remind YOU that the OP is entitled to HIS opinion, and he is also entitled to be allowed to express it here without a number of children resorting to name calling (I'll refrain from naming the offenders). He isn't stopping any of you from rushing down to the nearest Apple store tomorrow and lining up to be "first on your block" to get your Apple "fix". Enjoy--but don't condemn someone for wishing for more out of Cupertino.

Oh sure. I'll take it right from the top.

ah, the OP's statement that you quoted is very accurate--if someone doesn't want to get locked into an AT&T plan for an iPhone, the nearest device now is the 4G touch which is a pale imitation of the iPhone (my words) and that's (presumably) why the OP stated his position on the subject clearly and (IMO) accurately. there aren't any alternatives to an "iphoneish" experience with any other device but the Touch. and the touch doesn't appeal to him with the reductions in component quality that Apple has elected to include in this iteration. I don't blame him one iota for being unhappy. You won't ever catch me using AT&T. Therefore, you currently won't find me using an iPhone.

I, for one, agree with YOU. Steve Jobs is anal about thinness. and the lack of buttons. and the lack of color in s/w (just look at itunes 10, as ONE example). he favors form (the form that HE holds dearest) over function, every time.

I'd MUCH rather have a thicker touch (it's easier for me to hold my Storm than it is to hold my 2G touch) if it meant having a state of the art camera (with bright LED flash), along with some other improvements mentioned by you. Less than a megapixel is unconscionable but the fanbois will line up to buy the darn thing. Me--I'm underwhelmed by the refresh. I actually think the Nano was the coolest new ipod, judged against it's own predecessor. oh, and it's about time Jobs ditched the pathetic buttonless Shuffle--I knew that was a clunker the day it was announced and expected Apple to ditch that form factor at some point. Apple isn't opposed to making mistakes--that's for sure.

I don't think the 720p camera will be a selling point (it didn't do much for the nano, obviously) but the touch would also sell quite well without it at all. The front facing VGA cam may well sell more touches. And the fanbois will buy a lot. And their brother, sisters, moms, and dads too. :p

The single biggest point is definitely the new screen for me. 960x640 is a huge upgrade from 320x480 when it comes to apps like Safari. It takes it from "meh, I'll pass" to "sign me up."

News flash, honey, people have different opinions. I know, shocking, but it is true. So, the question is, since you seem to have a problem with dissenting opinions (and mine in particular), why are you still here? Like I said, relax, nobody is going to take your thin iPod Touch from you. Oh, and Apple loves you, honey. Relax. :D

I'm sure Apple would be more than happy to build an iPod Touch with the exact same components as an iPhone 4...if people were willing to pay much closer to the $700 price tag of the iPhone 4 32GB model rather than the $300 price of the iPod.

Summarizing the engadget review as "kinda sucks" just isn't reasonable, sorry. And I have no problem with disliking a product, but misrepresenting a review and telling weird and silly halftruths because apple didn't deliver his personal AAA++ product really is childish.

Oh sweetheart, Apple doesn't think people are dumb...maybe you but not us. Reviews have been great so far.
If you are looking for a camera, i'm using the Canon DSLR 550D and it's amazing!

The ipod has no decent competitor out there so you ought to be happy with it and it cannot be compared to the iphone since that is a smartphone and this is a music player!

Again, according to Apple (read the review), it is not about the price. It is about how thin it is, which is laughable.

So you agree that a "kinda sucks" summary of the engadget review wasn't really accurate and your tone has been over the top silly and accusatory of apple? And you really just posted this thread to get attention and crap on the fun? No disagreement, whatsoever.

Sure it can be compared. Steve Jobs made the comparison himself on Sept 1st, go to Apple.com and listen to the press event.

So let's see here, little quiz, when the masses walk up to the ipod touch in a store, the first thing they say is either...

A: "Why doesn't this have a 5MP camera instead of a 0.7MP camera with 720p video recording? I'll willing to pay more for that."

or

B: "This is incredibly thin and looks great. I'm willing to pay more because of this."

If you have some good marketing research that A occurs a lot more than B, you should be selling your services to Apple.

I think you should buy 1/2 a dozen. You obviously LOVE the new touch. I'm sure I'd like one too, but that doesn't mean it couldn't have been made even nicer. I fully understand how Apple dribbles out minor refreshes--so that they get people buying the same product, year after year when the next iteration come out, even though there's not that much different about it. After all, Apple customers MUST HAVE THE LATEST AND GREATEST. that's what it's all about--the "me" generation. Jobs is paranoid about not cannibalizing sales of the jesus phone. However, would a 3 or 5MP camera in a thicker case, killed him or the stockholders???

The so-called "masses" have been using and are using Windows. So what? Does it mean that Windows does not have any problems and cannot be criticized? And what does it have to do with the fact that Apple makes the laughable "but it is so thin" excuse?

look at the inferior image of the touch

Half the the ickyness in that shot (Which I do admit, is kinda icky) is that the yellow pole looks to not be in the depth-of-field (therefore, making it blurry). The Touch has a fixed-focal length, which means that it can't really focus on one thing in particular, it has to try it's best to have everything in focus. I would be willing to bet that if the person taking the shot would step a bit back, the shot would've come out better.

I KNOW that. Regardless, its a lousy photo for a device like this in 2010. How about you stop with the apologies for Apple and just accept what is.

seriously apple isnt gonna make an ipod touch better than the iphone bcz the iphone is one of there best product and why are u comparing iphone and ipod touch simply the iphone is always gonna be better

Not making any apologies here, just trying to show my view of it. :)
In the other photos, I agree that some are kinda grainy, but they were definitely not terrible. Aaanyway, I'm sure that this camera will do just well for 95% of it's customers, and the other 5% just had their expectations too high for the best PMP in it's class. :p

There is no competition between the iPhone and the iPod Touch. People who need/want the iPhone are going to get the iPhone. If you already have the iPhone, you do not need the iPod Touch. There is no reason for the iPod Touch not to be as good as the iPhone, other than Apple "milking" the market for the incremental upgrades instead of focusing on innovation ("but it is thinner" with a "toy" camera does not count as innovation in 2010).

Wrong product. This is the ipod touch not the iphone. I know they kind of look alike but they are actually two completely different line of products with different designs, features, refresh cycles and target audience.

People need to realize that the new iPod Touch wasn't an upgrade from the iPhone 4, but an upgrade from the last iPod Touch 3rd gen.! So stop comparing it to the iPhone, and once u start comparing it to the old iPod touch u will realize what a great update this was!
