So, comments by Jobs such as "you're holding it wrong" doesn't indicate (among many other condescending Job's comments) that he thinks people are "dumb"? or at least easily hoodwinked...

I concede that point and unfortunately he serves as the image of the company which to me is actually one of the better companies out there in terms of products and customer service.

Maybe I am dumb then for thinking that this is still on heck of a product...

Most people who buy the iPod Touch also carry another cell phone with them. So Apple probably wants to keep it as thin as possible to make it easier for these people to carry both devices without their pockets bulging.

First, he didn't say the quote you are attributing to him. Second, I don't recall any quotes by Jobs that imply he thinks people are dumb unless you interpret them with bias. Third, Apple is not Jobs.

Anyone who thinks a fat iPhone 4 with a fat AT&T monthly fee and no 64GB version is a better deal than the iPod Touch G4 is retarded.

Anyone who already owns a dumb phone and thinks buying the anaemic iPod touch with its crappy camera is a better decision than buying an iPhone is retarded.

See what I did there? Generalizations are retarded. Everyone has their own reasons for doing what they do. Me? I used to have an iPod touch and a dumb phone. I was already in AT&T and grew tired of looking for wifi everywhere. So I saved up and got myself a 3GS. Now I have a 4 and am happier than ever.

It's all about marketing, product differentiation. Anyone who follows dslrs knows that Canon does the exact same thing (improving each generation of cameras while leaving certain cameras "crippled"). The Touch is still top dog in the PMP department, and there is no incentive for Apple to make it the best that it can be. If a Nikon equivalent competitor ever emerges, you might see Apple packing in higher quality features on the lower models, but don't hold your breath.

The Touch is still a great device, but if you want more, wait for gen 5.

If I'm rich, I will buy an iPhone, but since I'm not rich, I can't complain about iPod Touch. Some where I heard " It's not that things are too expensive, it's just that you can't afford it."

Me, I have a dumb phone and never owned any apple product.
I hardly use my phone and it only costs $15/month. It's a pay as you go phone.
If I were to get an iphone4 it would cost me around $65/month for a minimal voice and data plan. For me, it makes no sense to get an iphone because most of the time I will have wifi at home or at work.

I don't carry around a camera right now so having one will be nice. And I don't need the GPS of the iphone.

So in my situation, I'm saving $50/ month by getting the ipod touch and I'll have virtually the same functionality as an iphone and I'll have a bonus camera and video recorder. And it'll fit in my pocket better because it's thinner.

So, the review is in and basically iPod Touch kind of sucks, but apparently Apple thinks that people will pay top price for it anyway.

Um, did you even read that review?

engadget said:
With the addition of HD video shooting, the new Retina Display, and a faster A4 processor, the touch has just gone from "nice to have" to nearly irresistible.

What the heck do you mean, "kind of sucks"? Every other review I've read from respectable sources gives it a good review.

The fact that the iPod touch is a pocket computer with an HD video camera and thousands of games with a web browser for $229 makes me doubt the idea that Apple made many mistakes here.

If someone can please find me a pocket computer with an HD video camera for under $229, let me know.

So, the review is in and basically iPod Touch kind of sucks, but apparently Apple thinks that people will pay top price for it anyway. Why? Because you do not have any other choices.

So, what does it say about what Apple thinks about its customers. Here is a quote from the review:

"Obviously this is not the same lens or sensor as the iPhone 4, and when we asked Apple about it, they said it was more a consideration of size rather than cost. According to Greg Jozwiak, using something closer to the iPhone 4's sensor would have made the casing for the touch considerably larger. The camera is also fixed focus rather than auto-focus, which means that tapping on the screen has no discernible result except for altering the white balance and exposure. Oh, and there's no flash to be found. Around front, the phone sports a VGA camera (similar to that of the iPhone), but again this is a fix-focused lens."

Really, Apple? Really?

Who the FRACK cares about how thin it is? We are talking about iPod Touch, not America's Next Top Model. Does Apple really think that people care more about thinnest than functionality? According to the review, the display and both cameras basically suck compared to iPhone. There is also no GPS.

Why?

Clearly, despite the fact that iPhone needs a piece of duct tape or some "bumber" to work properly, it is a huge success, and, it is not thin.

Why does Apple expect people to pay $399 for iPod Touch 64 GB and not get the same functionality as you get on iPhone, minus the phone part, of course. Apple, please, do not treat people as if we are a bunch of clueless morons. I think we deserve an excuse that sounds intelligent and plausible. The "thinnest" thingy is insulting.

To the OP, apple doesn't really give a ***** about it's customers, at this point in time, they have a brand name, and they will whore their brand name as much as they can. Think Louis Vuitton but with more circuits and white headphones =D. Apple's known as an "environmentally friendly, stylish company" and clearly from the newly released ipod nanos we can see that apple prefers form over function, so really, they just need to come up with a crack pot reason why you need (note i said NEED not want) the latest iDevice, and they will profit big time. and yeah, their marketing department/company (whoever it is they pay) does a helluva good job of making you "need" their new product.

Really, it's not that apple thinks people are stupid, but rather apple KNOWS their customers are easy to manipulate/stupid (seriously, reading through some of the threads here, I honestly believe that a good portion of apple users are retarded. Like who the hell honestly thinks their macbook pro attracts ants?!?!?!).

I would like to point out something else about the new iPod touch - the camera is a good enough resolution for posting things on Twitter or Facebook and now waiting around for processing or lengthy upload times. I suspect that Apple knows its target market with the iPod touch - the teenage/young adult crowd that probably has a standalone point-and-shoot camera, but wouldn't mind something basic for when they want something quick to upload.

As someone who had a prior iPod touch and a standalone cell phone (sold both and got an iPhone 4), I am willing to bet that a lot of people would appreciate the subtracted thickness of the touch.

but the touch is wifi only....so most teens are going to stand around coffee shops uploading their twitpics there? or will they do it at home on their...oh wait! laptops.

and beside's, uploading a picture on twitter 5 hours after it's happened (to me at least) defeats the point of twitter.

uploading 5 hours later is fine on facebook... but then why not upload pics from their PnS or their iphone/blackberry/android device?

oh and I'd personally prefer autofocus. I'd rather have a thicker (or even the same thickness ipod touch) with the same camera + autofocus. I remember the days of using my old 3g, the lack of autofocus made the phones crappy camera that much crappier. AF makes a world of difference to me when i'm uploading pics.

May I say that you hit the nail right on the head with your post!:)

It's bad enough that in the UK, we're practically paying £100 more for a 64GB iPod Touch in the form of higher VAT+Apple UK Premium Tax (as I like to call it!) and I got to check one out yesterday at the Apple Store in Liverpool ONE and to say that it looked underwhelming is the understatement of the frakkin' year! Hell, when I compared the screens of both the new iPod Touch to the iPhone 4, you could clearly tell there was a difference between the two when it came to viewing quality, especially where the iPhone 4 was concerned; in fact, I could swear the viewing quality between the 3rd Gen iPod Touch and the latest version were the same.

To be honest, I was seriously tempted to buy the 3rd Gen version of the 64GB iPod Touch, but then I realised that Apple would probably deliberately gimp it in various ways including lack of iOS upgrades at a later date, so when I do get one, I'm going to wait to get it as cheap as possible from Amazon.com on import via a friend in Michigan who's already agreed to act as a PO Box of sorts once more for me.:)

And to all the sad Apple Sheeple who say I should buy a iPhone: Thanks but no thanks! I'd rather spend a permanent vacation in Hades (I hear it's really hot this time of year! *grin*) than buy one, even if the retina display and the case the phone comes in are pretty good. I own a HTC HD2 and it does things way better than the iPhone 4, especially when it comes to making phone calls (although the battery life sucks major ass!)
EDIT: After seeing all the whinging and whining from Apple sheeple at the Thread OP just b
ecause he/she dared say that the new iPod Touch wasn't perfect, it makes me thank God that I'm not a Apple fanboy (hence the first line of my signature!) as tbh, they're really annoying people who definitely need to "Get a Life!" as the **** so famously said on Saturday Night Live back in the 70's!

You made your thread OP. Not a single person agreed with you. You failed. Now buzz off. People are excited about their new touches. Dont be a douche and make threads like this.

Three Words: Pot. Kettle. Black!

I agree with Yustas and what he has to say about the review, so does this mean I'm a douche as well as everybody else who agrees with him/her? Methinks you have some serious lack of maturity issues here if I do say so myself if you feel the need to complain about the Thread OP making a clearly valid point about the new iPod Touch...

Do you not realize still image sensors are much much larger then video image sensors. Its not Apple thinking your stupid, its you not understanding what is possible technology wise.

It's a damn iPod! Try getting a device that has a web browser, HD recording camera, front facing camera, acceleromter, gyroscope, retina display....... cheaper than what the iPod costs. You can't!

Some people are just never, never happy with what Apple does.

+1 it's getting really annoying listening to these whining trolls all the time.

the OP can have his opinion, whatever, I not going to try and talk some sense into someone looking for a fight on here.

But you seem to think that everyone wouldn't mind a little more thickness for better hardware used in the iphone, which isnt true. I don't care as much about the millimetre differences as I do about the price.

YEAH, I love the amazing features you can get for A$280 but if you add good iphone hardware, the price will go up heaps. I like the ipod touch but won't be able to pay $500+ for it. I don't want the whole iphone minus only phone, because if I did I would save up for one.

If they make the itouch so much better it will be expensive and I don't want that, in fact I am getting on this weekend.

Thats my opinion, I want one so I am getting one, no one is forcing you to buy it. Complaining to mac rumours isn't going to change Apples decisions, so deal with it. It is still the best media player/internet/camera/game player/everything around.

Here is another review (from Anandtech). Yeah, it is nothing new, poor screen, camera for kids, only 256MB memory, etc. But it is thinner than the previous model.

How do you manage to survive in a world that doesn't revolve and bow to your every whim? It's got to be rough.

P.S. The touch is awesome. Wonderfully, awesomely thin. Best portable web browsing device without a contract tag attached. Full web pages are browsable and usable with ease without a bunch of fussiness. The screen is also incredibly bright, as the anandtech review points out. I've been searching for such a device since the original Nokia internet tablet that I had waaaay back in '06, and it's awesome how far things have come in 4 years. :D

Is denial a new feature Apple is selling to fanboyz? The review points out how poor the screen, camera and other things are compared to the iPhone. But do not worry, the new iPod Touch is thinner, which, according to Apple, is more important than actual features and functionality of the the iPod Touch, so all other things do not matter, lol.

Wow, it took you four years to find mediocrity, no wonder you are happy with a 0.7 MB camera in 2010.

So OP, what would it take to make you happy? Would you pay $600 for an iPod Touch that is an identical to the iPhone without the phone hardware? If not, then what would it take? $500? $400? free? I want you to be realistic.
Once you have that decided, compare that price to what it would cost to just go buy the phone itself, unsubsidized, and then cancel the plan (or switch back to your old phone if you're on AT&T) and use it with only WiFi on. That way, you have your iPod Touch with the same specs as the iPhone without having to pay for data. Sure, you may have to pay an ETF but at least you have what you wanted.
Weigh your options because there will be a trade-off and it will be in either cost or the difference in features between the iPhone 4 and new iPod Touch.
If you don't like either and want Apple to give people an iPod Touch that is identical to the iPhone for half the price, keep dreaming. That would be like your boss wanting you to do your job for minimum wage yet keep you doing the same work you currently do (assuming you are some salaried, white-collar worker).

Hey yustas, what's the point of this thread? Do you just want people to agree with you or something?

Sad to say but Apple Sheeple like burgundyyears will never accept that there are other devices that do things better than Apple products in a lot of cases! *shakes head*

Yay for thinness... NOT!

BTW yustas, that was a great comeback that you did against someone who can't accept the truth that the new iPod Touch isn't perfect!
