me too but ima go at 12 do u think they willl be sold out if they open at 10?

Nah I don't think they are selling out in one day. I remember last year when I got my iPod 3G, they still had tons of iPods left!

I'm planning on going to the Apple store around 7-8 pm after work! I will call them and ask them if they could put one aside for me in case they do sell out! They won't but better be safe than sorry!

Sweeeet. :D

I'm actually going like, an hour early (half because we will be on that side of town anyways, and half just so I have a higher chance of getting one ;P). Taking my DSLR in case there is a crowd, might make for some good shots if so.

"With the addition of HD video shooting, the new Retina Display, and a faster A4 processor, the touch has just gone from "nice to have" to nearly irresistible."

The iPod Touch has the best upgrade yet, it is one hell of a great device and a fantastic alternative for people who don't want an iPhone. Apple are never going to make the specs exactly like the iPhone.

The iPod Touch will always be second best but a damn good second best at that.

Look at it in comparison to the old iPod Touch, not the iPhone 4 which is priced at $599/$699 respectively.

That's like comparing a Ford to an Audi ... I guess.

Agree, but that was not the case with touch 3rd gen vs iPhone 3GS. They were practically the same spec-wise, except for the gsm/camera modules, of course. An iPod touch 3rd gen was even a tad speedier in terms of iOS. And there was still a huge price gap between these two devices.

I kinda agree with some of you people that "touch doesn't have similar internals to the iPhone's 4 because of it's thinness" is just an Apple nice try to justify cuts in cost production. I would (and I think 99% of us would too) to have a little thicker iPod with 5mpix camera and IPS screen than to have 0,7mpix camera and TN panel with a super thin design.

Anyways, it's still a good iPod, just doesn't meet my expectations in 100%. I'm still deciding wheater to buy it or not. I've got an iPod touch 2gen 16gb and I'll buy 4gen 32gb for 299$ or touch 3rd gen 32gb/64gb at some bargain price.

almot all the people i know dont know the difference between an ips and tn display.

But more and more people are becoming aware there can be much better quality screens. The demand for better displays is rising, as well as the knowledge about them. Trust me, once you see an IPS, PVA, OLED, AMOLED displays, there's no turning back to TN. LCD TN looks like crap in almost every aspect compared to better display technologies.

I don't care about the camera. I don't care about GPS (there was never that functionality anyway). I don't care about IPS. You people are complaining about NOTHING! People. If you don't like it, don't buy it. But, contrary to your complaints, this will be the most successful iPod ever.

Well, if don't need all of these upgrades, what's the point in buying touch 4gen then? Go and buy 3rd gen.

I don't care about the camera either. I'm rather gonna use my new iPod Touch to show pictures... not take them. For that I have Nikon D90 and my phone (Nokia N82).
The camera part is the feature I'm less interested in.

So, the review is in and basically iPod Touch kind of sucks, but apparently Apple thinks that people will pay top price for it anyway. Why? Because you do not have any other choices.

So, what does it say about what Apple thinks about its customers. Here is a quote from the review:

"Obviously this is not the same lens or sensor as the iPhone 4, and when we asked Apple about it, they said it was more a consideration of size rather than cost. According to Greg Jozwiak, using something closer to the iPhone 4's sensor would have made the casing for the touch considerably larger. The camera is also fixed focus rather than auto-focus, which means that tapping on the screen has no discernible result except for altering the white balance and exposure. Oh, and there's no flash to be found. Around front, the phone sports a VGA camera (similar to that of the iPhone), but again this is a fix-focused lens."

Really, Apple? Really?

Who the FRACK cares about how thin it is? We are talking about iPod Touch, not America's Next Top Model. Does Apple really think that people care more about thinnest than functionality? According to the review, the display and both cameras basically suck compared to iPhone. There is also no GPS.

Why?

Clearly, despite the fact that iPhone needs a piece of duct tape or some "bumber" to work properly, it is a huge success, and, it is not thin.

Why does Apple expect people to pay $399 for iPod Touch 64 GB and not get the same functionality as you get on iPhone, minus the phone part, of course. Apple, please, do not treat people as if we are a bunch of clueless morons. I think we deserve an excuse that sounds intelligent and plausible. The "thinnest" thingy is insulting.

Did you read it wrong? The guy loves it: "With the addition of HD video shooting, the new Retina Display, and a faster A4 processor, the touch has just gone from "nice to have" to nearly irresistible."

Joshua Topolsky

- "The new touch isn't magical or revolutionary"
- "the touch isn't without faults -- the lack of GPS and a fairly low-quality still camera come to mind "
- "FaceTime on the touch -- on our device the volume seemed extremely low even when cranked up"
- "it's obvious that the touch's performance for still images is far below that of its big brother."
- "We really would have liked to see a higher quality shooter on the back of this device -- maybe the iPhone 4 has spoiled us, but even something like 3 megapixels wouldn't have felt out of place here. And we're pretty sure Apple could figure out a way to keep this thing thin and light in spite of it."
- "We're a little confused by Apple's reluctance to add a GPS chip"
- "While we like the iPod touch design overall, there's nothing present in the new version that makes it significantly more lust-worthy than previous generations."

hmmm, he really must be loving it... ;)

Anyone who thinks a fat iPhone 4 with a fat AT&T monthly fee and no 64GB version is a better deal than the iPod Touch G4 is retarded.

psychPurple: I was about to quote the same passages from the conclusion.
GoodBoy: The last sentence in the review said "With the addition of HD video shooting, the new Retina Display, and a faster A4 processor, the touch has just gone from "nice to have" to nearly irresistible." Its clear to me that in the end, the reviewer liked it.

Before the iPad came out, I thinking of getting iPod Touch. When the iPad came out, I was shifted my interest to getting one. But now that the new Touch is out, I'm seriously considering one again.

Well he said this, because he couldn't entirely bash the new touch. Overall it's a good iPod. Thankfully, he also wasn't scare to point out every bad thing about touch 4gen. To me the conclusion of his review is probably that for someone who never owned an iPod touch before, it will be a fantastic new device, but the people who own iPod touch 2nd and especially 3rd gens, won't be that much crazy about 4gen, since the improvements are mediocore. An iPod touch 3rd gen wasn't so inferior to iPhone 3GS as the new touch is to iPhone4.

No, it's not top price. The iPhone off contract is $600. In order to cut the cost of it, the iPod touch obviously won't have all of the hardware that the iPhone has, it's just numbers. If you want it to be up to par on the iPhone, get an iPhone.

Wait, who does not agree with me? People do not want the iPhone Touch to have GPS, better screen and take better pictures and video? Get real...and do not be a douche. :D

Seriously? If you want those features, stop being cheap and buy an iPhone then.

The iPhone 4 has better features than the iPod Touch 4.
And I don't even need a 64GB version because that's what my iPad is.

It's an objective review, that's the way they are supposed to be.

Frankly, you are entitled to your opinion and obviously the new iPod Touch is not for you, point taken. I also agree with you on the fact that it's not "an iPhone without the phone", there are obvious differences.

However, as someone who does not want an iPhone 4, this product suits me fine, even as an owner of a 3rd Gen iPod. I'm excited by the new features and think they did a fantastic job with the additional features. Remove the iPhone 4 (which to me is catering to 2 different markets and sets of users) and it's an amazing piece of tech.

GoodBoy, it seems as though you "do" like Apple and this product is just not up to your expectations. But your later posts just make it seem as though you are going out of your way now to bash the product (and that's fine if it's your opinion).

I actually found the biggest offense to be the thread title...

So, comments by Jobs such as "you're holding it wrong" doesn't indicate (among many other condescending Job's comments) that he thinks people are "dumb"? or at least easily hoodwinked...

It's a damn iPod! Try getting a device that has a web browser, HD recording camera, front facing camera, acceleromter, gyroscope, retina display....... cheaper than what the iPod costs. You can't!

Some people are just never, never happy with what Apple does.
