This is funny because it's POTUS working Apple.

The NSA stores and has ALL our communications via text/etc. They can file a DOJ request for it and get whatever they want, from any phone.

You are watching a show.

No matter how you feel about Trump, can we all agree that he knows literally nothing about technology and shouldn’t try to talk about it? The man gets his tweets printed out and handed to him... 🤦🏼‍♂️

Wonder what's apple hiding they will not unlock a phone ? Google will in a heart beat.

...are you a bot?

Unlocking the phone of a criminal in a "one off" situation...I agree.
But don't show the FBI how to do it.
Do it for them and let them look.
Telling them how to do it = slippery slope.

That’s not how software works. This ability will have to be built in for ALL users. Any criminal defendant has the right to know by what method LEO used to bypass security of their device. This means Apple will have to give the method to the FBI. And the FBI in turn will have to share this method with any criminal defendant asks for it.

This is the main reason the NSA/CIA does not want to share their ability to breach iOS with any LEO.

Sacrificing the privacy of hundreds of millions of innocent Americans humans across the world just for more evidence on an already convicted shooter makes no sense.
The shooter is not convicted. He is dead. Not that it makes much difference.

I see people that are adamant Apple cannot unlock iPhones. Because encryption. Because Apple said so. Because you want to believe. But it’s hard to believe a company is going to design hardware they can’t get into.

Bottom line I can’t prove they can. You can’t prove they cannot. So let’s at least stop making statements of certainty that Apple cannot unlock iPhones. You simply do not know.

The fbi wouldn’t be asking if they didn’t think Apple could.

It's very easy to believe that Apple designs hardware they can't get into. Because it is much easier to build hardware that nobody can get in (which Apple wants, it's a selling point) if actually nobody can get in.

And it's obvious that if Apple gets a request with a court order and they claim they _cannot_ follow this request and that turns out to be a lie, whoever told that lie would be in deep ****. Not going to happen.

This is Tim Apple's biggest test yet. I thought the Govt. has that tool from an Israeli Co, that could unlock I phones? Is this no longer working under iOS 13? Does Apple really have the ability to do this if the user was not backing anything up in a cloud service? :apple:
"That tool" was in 2017. Every time someone figures out a way to break into iPhones, Apple is going to fix it. This tool will possibly work on 2017 phones, but not on phones built in 2018, 2019 or 2020.

So if Pelosi and the rest of her buddies want Apple to have Trump's phone unlocked for "impeachment" purposes, I guess Apple should "step up to the plate" for that too?

Hopefully Tim Cook will tell Trump to take a hike with this and his so called "help" he's been giving Apple lol
If we can see Pelosi's and all her buddies too. Yes, I'd let them look at my phone. I have nothing to hide.

And are you sure they can flash a firmware at hardware level without wiping out every data on the phone itself ? I am not so sure about that.
You wouldn't _wipe_ the data.

However, all the data on the iPhone is encrypted using three keys: One key is built into the hardware that does the decryption. One key is your passcode. And one key is stored on the iPhone's flash memory. If you replace the decryption hardware, one of the three keys is gone, and there is no way to read anything.

“The pen is mightier than the sword.”

Those that defend the 2nd Amendment, should be behind privacy of our data communications. While there may be a benefit in getting access to the shooters data stream, it opens the door for access to our data to the government if they desire for “the greater good”.

You’re not a criminal until you’re convicted of a crime.
Most people will say you are a criminal if you _commit_ a crime.
You can commit a crime, and not be convicted, you are still a criminal.
You can be innocent, and be wrongly convicted, you are not a criminal (but people may believe it).

The guy that shot JFK was never convicted. This killer will never be convicted. The San Bernardino killer was never convicted (all died long before they could have gone to court, one actually as a murder victim). They are still criminals.

ah yes, the “I don’t know anything about his, but I assume I’m correct argument.”

based on what do you think Apple is lying?
Ah, the "I'll post something ridiculous and hope I'll trip them up" argument.
  • They have lied about lots in the past and will likely continue to do so.
  • They are the tech company that actually engineered it which would suggest that they just might be able to reverse engineer it.
Example for you;
If a person had previously been convicted of lots of violent crimes against women and your sister decided she wanted to have a relationship with said convict I'm going to suggest that you'd have reservations.
Why??
Because of his past.

No, they are suspected criminals who died before they went to trial.
You haven’t officially committed a crime until you’ve been convicted of such, it’s all allegations.

What has Apple lied about in the past?
What expertise do you have that makes you certain a product can be reverse engineered by those who designed it?

I generally like Cheeto, but I'm with Apple on this one. No reason to breach iOS security for innocent people so the FBI can spy on everyone. Did Cheeto learn his lesson on FBI spying?

Agreed, but it's odd how silent the left is about all this. The Mr. President Donald would have access to their phones too. Hmmm. :)

You know for a fact that NSA has broken AES-256? Even if you know that for a fact, NSA would never disclose that. Any subpoena to break iPhone's encryption would be heard by the FISA Court eventually, and NSA would argue that, if the world knew it had broken AES-256, the world would stop using that cipher, which would greatly hamper NSA's ability to collect intelligence.

If NSA actually HAS broken AES, you'll never know about it...unless you work for the right people at Fort Meade. They certainly would never tell anyone in the Trump Administration.

OK, how do you convince an Apple employee to swear under penalty of perjury to courts and Congress that they can't defeat their own encryption, that there is no back door? Many of these people are millionaires as a result of working at Apple. Do you actually believe they're going to risk prison just because Apple tells them to do so? There's no way in hell that's true.

So Trump wants to give the organization that lied to the FISA court in order to get a warrant to surveille him during the Presidential race the power to look into anyone's phone. What could possibly go wrong with this?

Really, Donny, sometimes you need to stop and think before you tweet at 3:00 AM.

I hardly see how 'the right to privacy' or 'orange man bad' is a defensible stance on this one, but alas, I'm sure I'll see things fly off the rails in no time with replies

Right. Because law enforcement are always the "good guys" and innocent people never get accused of a crime.

I don't know what the founding fathers were thinking with that stupid Bill of Rights. There's no such thing as an unreasonable search! If you have nothing to hide, you shouldn't mind me or anyone else coming into your home anytime we feel like it, to make sure you're obeying the law!
