Even though im not in the market... i am anticipating seeing something good with the imac line. it needs it. and no offense, but im starting to think that the iMac department inside apple is either fast asleep. Unless of course , they pull of something that can only be described as apple. But PLEASE apple, don't make a pyramid. a scroll wheel is circular, and a apple is curved. no straight lines. hopefully we wont be using an ancient form of a calendar (egyptians) for a new comp. we already have ical! But~ if it has some kick butt processor or a teleporter to a different dimension, im in!

i think is been pretty much agreed upon that the pyramid base will not show up and that it was just used as an example of some type of base that the dual arm could go onto.

pay no attention to the artist rendition, though not a bad job, id say almost everyone would agree thats not wat we're going to see (either bc of the metalic look which is really only in the pro models or jsut hte fact that there wont b a pyramid base)

this is the info i have. applejustworks-if you can't have every piece of info you crave and a quicktime of the commercial sent to you, would you rather not have any info? i would think the beans i've spilled would be considered some info, as opposed to just speculation.

Not to start to a fight or anything, but what info HAVE you offered to us besides that you know about it, you saw a commercial about it, and the guy who made the commercial likes it????

wow....... Don't tell us too much! :D

I just have to mention - you don't think that the Cram and Jam special was meant to sell out supply of PB's so that they can get a G5 too, do you? Seems highly unlikely to me, but the PB's have always had a special place in Paris... :)

Oui, oui PB :p,

Since Steve mentioned that Apple will ANNOUNCE AND SHIP the iMac G5 in September, how can it be announced tomorrow? They surely knew about the conference. Will we have to wait a few weeks? Might tomorrow just be a rehash of iTunes Europe, etc.?????????

though its extremely possible that it wont b annoicned tomorrow and as one person claimed to have been toldit wanst going to b annoucned, if apple doesnt annoucne it, since it has been pretty much assumed it would it will b really bad, especially ince they were pretty much suppsoed to annoucne it at WWDC, and alot of investors are leaning on tomorrow, i dont know wat will happen to Apple stock if it inst, there will b a lot of disapointed ppl, not just mac inthusiast. and it owuld mean a lot for the education market now and the christmas market if it isnt announced tomorrow also, at least if they cant ship it for another month or so they pretty much have to at least announce and show it tomorrow

sirjimithy-what i've said is true. sorry i don't have all the details, but even if i did, i bet you'd be just as skeptical.

Why can't it be announced tomorrow? Many times Apple have announced products when they haven't actually shipped for several weeks.. PB 17", Airport Express etc. Don't forget September is only one day away..

This expo would be an ideal time to announce a new iMac.

I know where your coming from kontact but as a long time lurker you would be aware of at least one newbie appearing just before each major apple event claiming inside knowledge...some have got it right, others have obviously been frauds.

As to speculation, analysing all the rumors and patent data points already to a machine like you have described. Nothing I think you have said apart from the BEPs is new...and that's what we all hunger for now because any source (you included) is at best rumor. If you had any more of the jigsaw puzzle like colour, base foot design, internal specs, speaker placement ect then we would appreciate it and add it to the rumor list.

On the other hand I am glad youre not speculating yourself.

most of us, even the skeptical ones, all have the feeling of a little kid about to watch a parade when these conferences come about. especially when we hear what floats we should be expecting to see. But if you really stop to think about it, there's just too many holes in this float for me.

lol i like all these posts from ppl who jut read the first post and read about ppl arguing about the arists rendition or the 2 arms and are responding to that, ithink were pretty much past that lol

i think EVERY possible thing has been covered in those cases lol

Yeah exactly, by now all that's left are these crazy people who give us partial info about things that have already been speculated.

and dude, I did it again...lol I gave AppleJustWorks a post that was supposed to go to you on the last page... the part about "you still don't think I was being sarcastic do you?" I'm losing my brains! Just to make it clear I wasn't being sarcastic, I'm not very good at getting jokes that's all :)

the info i put out was, the guts of the machine are indeed behind the screen, the keyboard and mouse are wireless, vertical slot on side of monitor, the black eyes peas are shown with it and they're talking about Garage Band, and the person i met who is not a mac user was very impressed with it. that's all true. as in facts. facts are information. what i particularly found encouraging is how it impressed a wintel user, so it can't be all that bad. i felt motivated to post all this after i saw some of the egyption renderings/speculation.

There's nothing wrong with being a newbie, everybody is at some point in time so I hope I didn't give you the wrong impression with anything I might have said before about newbies. I think we are all understanding what you're saying, but those aren't facts. Facts can be varified, and right now you're the only source. We all just like to have as much proof as possible, and if not like Aswitcher was talking about.. there is a difference between how we look at it. Either as fact or rumor. Not enough varification will make it look like a rumor, which is okay that's what this forum is all about. You'll have your chance to prove this all to be true, tomorrow.

No hard feelings :)

base

It would seem to me that if the item being patened is the arm they could render the base any way they like. That way they would not tip off what the whole pakage looks like. Kinda the way they disquise cars in Detroit. But who knows, I was wrong about the G5.

sirjimithy- it's all right if you don't believe me. it's good i didn't have all the info, so there will still be some surprise when it's announced. just by because i don't have all the answers doesn't mean it's not true. time will tell.

does anyone else remember the keynote when steve announced the FP iMac? he said that globbing the guts on to the back of the screen is a "less than great" idea because...

the flat screen is no longer flat

the optical drive would be vertical, so it has to be slowed down

and the ports have to be on the side, which "creates the worst kind of cable mess right in front of your eyes"

I may be wrong, but it just doesn't make enough sense. those are all valid design flaws.

Thanks kontact, I hope it turns out as good as it sounds. It's always nice to hear about a Wintel user that's impressed with Macs.

#1 is true, for #2 they must have figured out a way to keep the drive the same speed as normal and for #3, why cant you put the ports on the back?

who knows

i think they could sell an updated G4 imac (two part arm) along with a new G5 iMac with new enclosure concept. two processors, two enclosures, two price points. drive down costs on G4, slowly add features by standardizing things like wi-fi, bluetooth, firewire800, etc. more rapid development for G5 with everything stanadard, support 30" displays.

the pics:
i think there is too much verticle and horizontal shift from the top of the original arm to the circle on the expo pic. it looks near verticle yet is pushed forward/extended

Well, thanks at least for putting it all together in one post for us. True or crap, we'll all know shortly, eh?

that is tru, somethintg down those lines were said, but that doesnt mean they couldnt have figured out a way to make it work and work well, and avoid those problems

JOD8FY

I think you're right about point #3. The new Aluminum displays have ports on the posterior inferior side of the monitor.

But cord mess would be unsightly.... :)

Again, I'm not saying it's not true. But optical drives DO have to be slowed down when put on their sides. And with some creative engineering, the ports could be put on the back. Perhaps they would comprimise the drive speed since it is a consumer machine and not a pro. But unless they can squeeze the guts of the machine to about the thickness of a powerbook, you destroy the point of having a flat screen.
