i think there is too much verticle and horizontal shift from the top of the original arm to the circle on the expo pic. it looks near verticle yet is pushed forward/extended

hey that's really kool, for you to show both pics up close like that. I originally found that pic on the expo and how vertical the one arm looks and how far out extended is how made me think about it possibly being the two arm design originally. Glad you could supply a closer look :)

i think they could sell an updated G4 imac (two part arm) along with a new G5 iMac with new enclosure concept. two processors, two enclosures, two price points. drive down costs on G4, slowly add features by standardizing things like wi-fi, bluetooth, firewire800, etc. more rapid development for G5 with everything stanadard, support 30" displays.

well from those pics, the bottom does seem a little diffrerent with the two white lines that i can see and theyre definately not on my FP imac, but the top looks the same, there is obviously a little joint comming out of the top of the arm, which u can see in both pictures, and in the suppsoed G5 one, it realyl doenst look like a second arm, just a connecting joint

I think you're right about point #3. The new Aluminum displays have ports on the posterior inferior side of the monitor.

But cord mess would be unsightly.... :)

Bluetooth keyboard/ Mouse?
A sign of wireless firewire ?
this expo will either really be cool or a major let down.

The aluminum displays don't have the ports mounted on a logic board, either :)

No, it would have to take cords coming off the logic board connecting to rear ports to pull that off, but unless they are above or (more logically) below the logic board, it would add even more thickness to the unit.

no i can't prove it, so yes, by that definition of fact, you should consider it rumor. aswitcher-you're welcome.

Ooo. The G4 iMac would still be coming out if they were going to keep the design. Look I hope I am wrong, but I think they wouldnt have halted sales for 2 months on the G4 iMac (big loses) when they could have still be sellign them...

supports 30" displays - ha ;)

I thought wireless firewire wouldn't be a real possibility for quite some time. And when it is, I'm sure we'll see it in Powermacs first, just like the way Powermacs got firewire 800 long before the iMac did.

no but for real i beleave that the people at apple can solve any problem they might have before it is introduced

i must say most "fake rumor posting ppl" arent as persitant as u, at least in what ive experienced with them in previous product launches, and the more u post the more credible u seem, at least in my opinion

healthy

kontact has provided us regulars with some healthy speculation. and honestly, i haven't seen such fast moving post. So, i thank kontact, cause even if he is bs'ing, which could be totally untrue, he has made this thread interesting, even though any next gen comp would be. And btw, when does the conference start? what time central time? that would greatly help to see if im going to call in sick for work tomorrow to be up for the unveiling!

new iMac?

No idea if this is a hoax or not, but on the iPodfrance site was this picture... if you zoom in on the white box just to the left of the blue crate you can see something like a "display only" iMac on something like an L-shaped base.

[Edit: apparently this is an old photo of the original LCD box.]

True. Most hit and run

ok, i will some speculation despite myself: the impression i had when they described it to me was some thing like what the new monitors look like, as in no fancy arm. in hind sight i wish i had asked them to be more specific about the way it looked, i never thought about posting any of this originally anyway. so consider it speculation, but that was impression of how they described it. you have to understand, our conversation was very water cooler and not detailed.

unless of course it operates in Space, because a vertical drive goes against gravity

Not a hoax - just old news. That photo has been discussed extensively in other threads and the conclusion is that it's an old original Apple LCD box.

It is definitely NOT the new iMac.

I think you'll find that this was spotted a few days back and has been discussed to pieces ... with the outcome being its nothing to get excited about...

Is everyone just going to stay up and chat for the next 4.25 hours?

When checking "Kontact" s profile, I see his messages have 46,839 reads. That must be for the whole thread since it started, I assume.

What about putting connectors in the base to avoid the cable mess. The power connector would have to be in the base anyway.

Hey it's no big deal man, we can't always supply a link or a stream. A lot of us on here were just testing you to see if you were real or not. No matter if any of what you say is true or not, or if it is true but for some odd reason they don't show that commercial.. I won't knock on you tomorrow. Hell for all we know, they might delay all this iMac stuff till amost another month from now... I'd hate to see me or anyone else run you away, even if what they might have told you isn't true. This is still one of the best mac forums out there and I think you'd really enjoy hangin around longer than the Expo.

hmm

two more pics this has the arm almost vertical, one with the screen tilted forward and one with it tilted back

if apple doesnt annoucne it, since it has been pretty much assumed it would it will b really bad, especially ince they were pretty much suppsoed to annoucne it at WWDC, and alot of investors are leaning on tomorrow, i dont know wat will happen to Apple stock if it inst, there will b a lot of disapointed ppl, not just mac inthusiast.

Apple's under no obligation to do what Rumor posters "assume." Analysts too can wait a week, if Apple decided to stick to their word (ANNOUNCE in September) and thus allow Steve to do the unveiling in a week or three.

I do think it's possible that the iMac is NOT coming tomorrow. Only a possibility--it probably IS coming in my opinion. But Apple's not "supposed" to do it tomorrow--they've said September and WE'VE said August 31.

But unless they can squeeze the guts of the machine to about the thickness of a powerbook, you destroy the point of having a flat screen.

Suppose the iMac is half a foot thick. Compare that to how deep an eMac is! Now throw in the sharpness that an LCD has. I'd say there's still a LOT of point to having a flat screen.
