Given the old and crusty band they are using for the event, does that hint at a PB G4 re-release??

I hope it's a Newton re-release!

The iPod Touch is the iPhone without the phone,
The new Newton is the iPod Touch without the music!

What a deal. Forget the MacBook Pro that I have been waiting for, i want the new newton to replace my iPod Touch!

Don't forgot, it will be so tapered, there won't even be room for a dock connector, let alone a headphone plug. But then again, on that product you won't actually need a headphone plug.

It's the future: Less is more, and almost nothing is infinately more.

It's the pet rock for the digital age.

Yes, I predict they will definitely be out on the 296th!

Actually, Apple releases their produces and updates on Tuesdays, if you havn't noticed, so... it would be the 292 or the 299th.

Just to clear up any misconceptions. We don't want any unsupported rumors going around on this forum.

Normally i would have ignored that, but as it is shaping up, that time period is starting to look realistic!

1. I predict the next update will be the cinema displays with a built-in isight camera. If you buy a mac mini or mac pro, you can't utilized the video function, can you? The external ISight camera is not on sale anymore...?
Comparing the current MBP and the cinema displays, which one do you think is more outdated?

2. New macbook pros will not get a redesign... look at this 2 pages...

Noticed that Aperture 2 is a new software which just launched...
Why would they use the same MBP image as an example?

3. For your information, I am also waiting for the release of the new MBP...

obviously?

clearly they would use the current macbook pro images in the ads, they were emphasising portability on a pro platform. they will never give away a product ahead of time in the ads, and just because they used the current model does not mean that this will foreshadow a longer wait. my guess is that the two divisions, software (specifically aperture) development and hardware development are completely independent of eachother. Apple is famous for breaking the company into sectors, just look at the way the online store is run in comparison to the retail store. whether or not macbook pro's are refreshed next week has no bearing on the press kit that was probably assembled several weeks/months ago.

I must admit... I laughed :D

OK, I have sat back and read and read and read about the rumors surrounding the MBP updates and thought I would add to the furor. I received a phone call from our Best Buy Business Rep last Friday. Just a routine call to see if we needed anything. I asked him if he had heard anything about the new MBP's. He said that he hasn't heard an exact date but knows it will be soon because they have been aggressively pricing them to clear out the old stock to make room for the new stock expected anytime. Take it for what it's worth.

I'm giving it till next Tuesday when this supposed "secret" event might take place. If not, I'm buying the current model. Now I'm beginning to wonder if it wouldn't make sense for Apple to completely skip over the Penryns and wait for the new montevina processors. I suppose what I should say is I think we will see the MBP's with the Penryns, but I think the true refresh, keyboard, case, screens, etc. will be with the montevina which brings a pretty big speed jump with it, unlike the current model to penryn (Speed Comparisons).

By the way, this might be one reason to own a PC. When you buy a new PC, you know some manufacturer is going to release a new one with better specs within days of your purchase. So you can buy with confidence knowing it will be outdated in just a couple of days! With the Mac you just don't wanna be that guy that bought one just days before the 8 month refresh is released! I'm just kidding about the whole PC thing, I'm happy to be a Mac user! :D

montevina is not a processor, it is a platform, and since the MPB does not use the intergrated wifi, the new MPB will not be branded montevina as intel defines it. Penryn is a processor, wiki is if you have any further questions!

Ad 1. I doubt they will come out with a consumer-item like an iSight in their screens. quite a few places won't allow cameras on-site, and besides, people buy those screens mostly for photo-work/video work/audio work (from my experience: In that order too). And imagine a pro using two or more screens, he's then paying for a camera several times over, cameras that really have no use in this context.

As such it's a nice, albeit overpriced, pro screen. If they do actually include a camera in a new iteration, it will just once more emphasize they shift of focus to the lowest common denominator –*the crowd I lovingly (or not, haha) call "the iPod crowd".
As to which is more outdated. It's the MBP, no question. The Cinema displays do what a pro screen should do. Whereas, assuming you're in the market, the MBP is beggining to feel rather long in the tooth when compared to the competition. And especially when the hardware is put in relation to the extremely high price for that hardware. If for nothing else, since they seldomly let the price go down as the tech gets left behind, they should upgrade the processor, the HDD, the GPU, and the screen (to a higher resolution) in order to make it worth buying a MBP these days. – Oh, and include 4 GB's of ram, considering the price of the thing.

Ad 2. You're propably right, but not because of the links – even if they were updating the design, they would never take pictures of the thing and put it on the web before it came out. No, the reason I dont think it will be updated design wise, is because they'll propably tie it together with a different type of processor.

Ad 3. I'm not. My current MBP will do for a while. But it's always nice to keep oneself updated on what's happening out there.

:)

Stop being Job's bitch, and buy a refurb or something else current off Ebay.
Doug

Presonally, I find it more foolish to spend release prices on out of date hardware.

I would rather wait another 5 months for an MBP update then buy the current line at the prices they are asking. Even for a refurb.

You know what, I'll just skip Penryn, and take on Montevina MBPs when they come out sometime after June.

Given the time between the Penryn release and Apple's integration, do you really think that Apple is just going to toss the Montevina processor into the MBP right after it is released in June? Somehow I seriously doubt it. Good luck though.

Well Penryn was only released shortly after new year... I'll wait for Montevina or Nehalem to come to MacBook pros... whichever one comes next... Besides, I've only had my MBP for around 5 months...

what's the difference between penryn and montevina? i thought penryn was a new mobile chip and montevina was a new chipset...i'm confused now

I don't that article is factually correct. Penryn is a processor which works on both the Santa Rosa and Montevina chipsets.

Yes, this is quite funny, since they obviously don't understand themselves.

That being said, anyone could guess at June for a montevina release. WWDC + intel releasing at that time. I for one, don't believe it will be until towards the end of the year based on release schedules. But expect to see every other darned notebook manufacturer releasing in June. :p
