Wow. You guys pay $30 for unlimited data?

I pay $30 (£20) a month for 250 minutes, unlimited texts and 1gb Internet on a 12 month iPhone contract which I bought WITH my iPhone 4.

AT&T rips you guys off lol.

any genius in here figured out if you can do simialr to this to the UK networks (o2,3,orange,vodaphone,t-mobile ) networks?

Nope. The UK networks don't fall for trickery like this, especially not O2. You know why? Because you're not allowed to transfer your service like this guide explains (here in the UK).

Chances are you aren't using all your data anyway.

Okay, I think both my deactivated data plans stopped going up, the activated iphone unlimited data plan started going up now. It says

Next Bill Cycle: 09/03/2010
Data (MB): 83.5 of Unlimited (Deactivated)
Data (MB): 201.4 of 2048 (Deactivated)
Data (MB): 12.6 of Unlimited
Messaging: 1000 of Unlimited

The first deactivated data plan is the dumb phone unlimited, second is the 2GB iPhone plan. 3rd is the activated unlimited iPhone 3G data plan. This one is supposed to go up right?

Looks like you are good to go!

could you buy the go phone and use the number and then return it when you are done? and also can you use the same "dumb phone" more than just one time? Like if someone put a IMEI number up here could we all use it? or will it not allow that

Pretty sure it would allow that. Only reason I haven't posted the IMEI number is I don't wanna risk my unlimited data.

Yes, at least for radioshack, they allow you to return an opened gophone up to 30 days after you bought it. Go do it! :)

Thanks to the OP for making this thread. This worked for me last night. I called in last night at about 1 am and woke up with an unlimited plan! I used the imei from my other AT&T phone.

I wonder, if you give somebody your GoPhone IMEI number, and then report it stolen, would it lock up their phone/account?

I was so close to posting my GoPhones IMEI # on here because I really have no use for it anymore but I just kept thinking about what people could so with it. There are some real idiots out there who would love to report it stolen just to stop people from being able to to get the data plan.

People can go to Wal-Mart and take your phone with you. Take a picture of the label on the GoPhone package in the store. The GoPhone I bought had a label on the outside of the package with the IMEI # on it and that's all you need.

Is this loophole likely to be around for awhile? (Obviously you can't give me a definitive yes or no) I probably won't be getting an iPhone until mid-September.

The other question being whether they can use your IMEI to charge your account for fees of any type.

I don't think so. The IMEI is inside the phone and is unique to the phone - not your account. So if you sell or give away your phone, you are also giving that IMEI out.

Someone could report the IMEI as stolen, which might prevent that particular phone from being used. But if you have an old dumbphone that you never intend to use again that wouldn't matter.

How does one know if this method will work or not permanently? I'd hate to tether even once in a hotel, watch a few episodes of hulu, and then get stuck with a few hundred dollar bill. Do you just have to wait until your next bill? Is there reason to believe that AT&T can run audits and then switch you back?

This has happened with Sprint. The so-called SERO plans were just audited, and loads of people got perks taken away that were added previously. Their reps added these codes in the past, and now Sprint has taken them away--not a smart move if you ask me. They claim that they are losing money at $30 a month, yet their subsidiary Virgin mobile offers $25 a month unlimited everything (on crappier phones).

Anyway, does AT&T have a precedent of doing similar audits in the past?

I googled a bit and you are mostly right. From what I read, when the phone is reported as stolen, the IMEI is blacklisted and all accounts with the IMEI active are flagged and you must prove ownership of the phone before they become unflagged. I'm not sure how this would apply to this particular case though.

Yes and no. The only instance this has happened was when people were getting FAN discounts that did not apply to them a few years back (it was some company for 25%). AT&T did a sweep and removed the FAN discount from those that were not supposed to get them.

There has been no case that I know of where they do it for loopholes like this though.

Seems like they would notify you if they were going to make changes to your account/plan. Just like they do via 2 texts and an email when they change you to unlimited data through this loophole.

Do you know how widespread the sprint audit is? I know almost a dozen people with old sero plans and they'd probably like a heads up.

Anyone who has a palm centro or a touch pro 2 or earlier is fine. Alot of SERO customers were getting Blackberries for $30 as well. Starting October 1, all plans with phones not named palm centro or touch pro 2 will go up to $40, but you can get an Android phone or web os phone. This means you can get middling phones--Palm Pre, HTC Hero, and blackberry for $40 a month.

It's sort of odd, b/c usually once you've got a plan, you're kind of left alone and can keep it forever. I am sort of debating whether to acquire a "real" grandfathered iphone plan to use with an iphone 4, or just trying to convert a 2 gb iphone plan into an unlimited. The poll suggests that most people are already grandfathered in, so I don't know how safe this method is. Because once it shows that I'm unlimited, I'm going to be using close to 5 gb a month, not 2 gb.

LMAO, I hopped aboard that train months ago, guess I got lucky and added the discount after they did the sweep.

I tried this method an hour ago and the ATT rep told me there was no such thing as the $30 unlimited data, text, and email anymore... they now only offer the $15 unlimited data and email... therefore, unlimited texting in this bundle no more... i had no choice than to add it... i guess let's see, sit, and wait?
