what do you mean? how is it a steal? it's a new plan they're now offering according to the rep...the $30 is gone when i specifically requested for it, so this was the only one i got to "try out"...
and yes you're correct, i had the 200mb... still haven't received a text from them yet... it's been 4-5 hours...

Hey all, so I'm tempted to do this with my new iPhone 4. I have an IMEI already, and a secondary phone, so there's no problems there. What I'm wondering about is FAN Discounts. I'm getting a slight discount on the internet 2GB plan. Would the discount carry-over to the Unlimited plan or no? I've read in different places that the FAN would not be eligible, but I'm trying to see what the correct answer is. Would I be paying $30 or would I be paying $30 - FAN Discount. Thanks everybody!
You could always re-enable the FAN discount after you switch to unlimited, but the one I had (through a uni, applied to a family plan) did stay.
It's not about enabling/disabling the FAN Discount. I'm wondering if the FAN Discount applied to the $30 unlimited plan. For me, the 2GB is enough, but I like the ability to have the Unlimited when I occasionally tether. I'm just calculating the costs and just wondered if the FAN Discount would or would not apply onto the $30 unlimited plan. Thanks!
@gipfeli: Do you have a family text messaging plan? It has to be disabled before you can get the $30 unlimited data/text for dumbphones. That's the only thing I can think of.
yes, but I disabled the unlimited family texting and then add the $5 to each account prior to calling them... called the first rep who added this one to me... called in the 2nd time and this lady confirmed there was no such thing as the $30 unlimited data/texting for dumbphones anymore... she said the only way to do this is to add texting as an extra feature...
as of now, i have can't connect to 3G and not even EDGE on my iphone... i am however able to send MMS...
couple of places people have mentioned that unlimited loophole is going away on Aug 27th ? if i get a iPhone 4 after Aug 17th i wont be able to get unlimited is that true ..can some one confirm? where are people getting this news from i didn't find any thing on at&t.com
It's a rumor. I posted earlier in this thread about it but I was wrong. The unlimited loophole is likely not going anywhere.
I am still able to see it when I go online and try to buy a dumbphone. There are 2 different unlimited data plans.
1) Messaging & Data Unlimited: Quick Messaging/Basic Phones $30

You can still go on the internet, it just SUCKS. All phones have some sort of crapy web browser.
no texts from at&t so far... it's been half a day and i just checked my account... that's the new $15 unlimited plan they now have for dumbphones:
I clearly said you can't use the $15 plan. Cancel your msging plan before you call at&t. It won't work with the $15 plan.
i know i know, but i called in twice and they said this $30 unlimited data plan is not in their system... what can "we" do?
UPDATE: called in twice again, which is the fourth time... 3rd guy didn't find anything... called in the fourth time and claimed that my uncle just added this $30 plan last week, so it must still be there... this lady looked hard and it took her almost 5 minutes to "find" this plan... all set up and see what's up...

15$ dataplan for dumb phone or basic phone is the same data ur going to get with 200MB or 2GB...so why dont after downgrade to 15$ data for basic phone then just use that with ur iphone.....yes you will get text saying that you need to upgrade blah blah blah but just ignore it and once awhile just use ur sim with basic phone..if the rep called you..you can tell them that you are using the basic phone but sometime borrow iphone from a friend to test out..

I went to Att store, first time ever to open an account, when i open i told them I will have the family plan, and i will use my old phones. and I will add 30$ data unlimited + text unlimited for family, They will ask you what kind of phone you have, I told them it is the phone i bought from china, just regular phone, so They added the package. Later on i went home i use the sime with my other Nokia SmartPhone, and you will get text and called from them but depend on your social skills, but what i mean is that you can use your 15$ data unlimited for basic phone on smart phone.. data will be just the same.

This would be great but when I had the dumbphone plan data did not work on my iPhone. Also, if you use the sim in an iPhone then ATT automatically switches you to an iPhone data plan (point of this loophole). I'd love a cheaper data plan but how is what you said possible?
Can I use a T-mobile branded dumbphone?
