EASY method - New data plans to Unlimited

Wow, so 4 days without data? Or 2g data? I'm just waiting on my new microsim to try this. Did you use a new unactivated microsim for the iphone 2g?

4 days with everything working. I was on the 2g unlimited data plan but it's really 3g. I heard MMS doesn't work, but I don't use MMS at all. I used an activated sim from my 4g.

Thanks for the reply. I guess since I ordered the microsim already I'll just play it safe and use it. So everything worked fine including 3G after you switched the sim back except that they didn't change the billing portion?

for the record, doing the "loophole" via the non-smartphone $30 unlimited text/data method, gives full MMS after getting kicked back onto the iphone unlimited plan... for anyone worried that hasn't done it yet

I haven't got any text messages yet I will give them a call in a min. to see what happens and will report back with the out come.

Just called att because I had not got a text message since I changed the phones. I told the guy I wanted to activate my i4 and he said that I couldn't keep the unlimited data because it was for a basic phone and not an iphone. I will have to try it again at a later date or maybe another route.

called twice and got same answer, they can't give me unlimited because my unlimited plan is for a regular phone and it's a media unlimited and i can't be considered to be grandfathered.

They told me if i keep using the iphone my data plan will switch to the 25$ a month 3g plan within 1 or 2 days.

exactly why you can't call back after enabling the non-smartphone $30 unlmtd txt/data bundle... they'll pinch you like that... the reason it works now is because once you start using the iphone again, the system automatically kicks you onto the equivalent iphone unlimited plan... it's automated... it's not someone sitting there making the switch... as soon as you get a person involved after the initial switch to dumbphone unlimited, you're done.

and if the txts aren't coming, maybe means that the loophole no longer works?? i dunno...

Got the two texts and email on Sat (7/24), but my online account and via the myWireless app still shows that I am on the non-smartphone data plan. This means there is no data and no VM on my phone (currently using data via the benm mobileconfig file).

How long should I wait to see if they switch on the iPhone data?

the switch should literally be within a couple hours if going from the non-smartphone unlimited... (only took like 30min for me, some others as much as 2hrs though)... maybe they blocked it now...

Started with asking for changing iphone to my old tmobile phone (locked).
They asked IMEI number, and switched to it. I explained I'm going to use micro sim converter.
For data plan, they said combination of $10 unlimited data and $20 unlimited txt is only available option for $30 unlimited plan (I had no txt plan before)
After making sure that there is no other $30 unlimited plan, I said okay.

After I checked OLAM and realized it was different from what the guide here says,
I used business chat line to ask for changing the data plan to $30 txt/email/data unlimited.
He asked everything such as exact IMEI number, the model of cell phone I'm using, even that sim card I'm using right now was in iphone4,
I explained all, then, he asked me $10 + $20 combination would be exactly same as $30 plan in terms of function,
So I said there is no "email/messenger" feature on $10+$20 combination which I really want.
Although he said there would be no difference, I persuaded him successfully and finally he changed it to $30 txt/email/data plan.

Now I made the first call and hope to get txt msg. I'll update the result.

P.S. My another line in family plan cannot make a call. (I can make a call but no data connection)
Is this because I'm in transition?

Ok so I called AT&T back today and added the imei number for my nokia prepaid phone, this rep didn't give me any crap about the sim card working and just changed the imei on my account. Then I went on with my day responding to some text messages that I had gotten, then about an hour later I remembered that I didn't make a call with my iphone. So I get ready to make a call then I get the 2 text messages and an email, checked my account online and BAM unlimited data $30 Wooo Hooo. Thanks alot for the instructions

You should not have to touch the nokia phone. That will mess things up.

worked for me too..

I called att rep and followed the instructions provided by OP. gave IMEI number..hung up and made a call...

two hours later...
got two msgs...
got a mail..
checked olam...
have $30 unlimited plan now...

Correct. This is only to get you on a plan that was previously offered by at&t, not to get you anything "free". You'd do this guide to actually have a higher cell bill (from $25 to $30 a month for data), but would get unlimited.

Yeah - don't even touch the dumb phone. Just follow the guide step by step.

Right. iPhone data does not include text. It's $20 unlimited text or $30 family unlimited text

Strange. When I log onto OLAM, it doesn't show that I have the iPhone 4 anymore. It just shows a picture of a dumb phone. It still says I have DATA for iPhone.

ahhh!!! i hope this loophole stays open for the rest of my vzw contract... it ends in november...
