Thinking I'll return or sell mine

We'll as much as I'd love to keep it....I really do like the look and feel.
I did find 2 deal breakers for me after 1 night of use.

#1 found the thicker Apple component cable which I use in my car stereo does not fit because its slightly too thick. I also found the one from my ipad won't fit as well. Seems only the small one that comes with the phone fits. You could shave a little off the connecter to make it fit but why.

#2 I found my navigon navigator could not get a gps signal....took the case off and all was good....

These 2 things for me are very important but maybe not so much for others?

I also got the Carbon option but never used it...have to go to Apple Store today and might swap out my phone for an issue I have.

That being said I'm going to probably return my black/black case unless someone is serious about getting one soon!

It's called a First Look. Not a review. I find it funny that people are bitching about someone giving their opinion in a First Look, saying that it's a "crap review", just because it doesn't agree with what they are hoping the case will be like. So freaking hilarious! People need to get a grip!

I find it sad that people are always so negative and complain. I just think people should wait till they actually touch it before jumping ship. Sorry if you don't like it but honestly "get a grip" and if you didn't buy it then you really have no reason to really care. So..thanks for your opinion. Oh and the "first look" was not informative at all and poorly done.

No GPS

has anyone commented that the carbon fiber backing isn't quite as advertised...

In the rendered pic, the carbon camera cutout is exact to the camera and flash with carbon fiber splitting the two, but the actually thing is not.

It's more evident on the element case home screen.

you mean aluminum blocks GPS signals? No wonder I have a hard time using GPS on a plane unless I have it in the window. Look forward to seeing if others have the same problem lol.

Oh how I wish I could stop reading this thread! Still on the fence about the Vapor 4 but leaning towards not buying it. Need to see a non render pic of the black/pink or black/red.

Dave, I'll take it. Pm me

I have a mill. So I may try and fix some shortcomings

I've been a big of a fan as anybody of this case but it you can't check maps on the go then it seems like it would have to something super special to make me choose form over function. I'm waiting for Greenburg's second review and if I'm not blown away I'm going to cancel and maybe reorder when the bugs have been worked out and the real deal looks more like the renders I used to make my buying decision on. I really wanted a matte finish not really crazy about shiny black. I would think if they want to keep selling this case then they will have to keep making adjustments to please the buyer. Maybe version 5 will be what we all expected from version 1.

I can foresee practically all issues potentially able to be fixed with enough effort and resources, but for the life of me I cannot see how the signal impairment issue is ever going to change. If one has a very strong signal - let's say one of 5 bars and as strong as -51 dbm (really really close to a tower) then perhaps you will see no change from 5 to 4 bars. But if one is getting roughly 3 or 2 bars the case I fear will tip it over the edge.

The whole bar thing is something I'm getting very confused about. Since I've upgraded my OS to show the bars more accuratly I can have 3 bars in my bedroom and 1 in the living room. That's on the same floor and not holding the phone. There is no way signal can fluctuate that much unless your home was 40,000 sqft. Before this os update I had the same bars pretty much wherever I went. If the case. messes up GPS does it also wreck Wifi? Or Bluetooth? I'm hoping Mr Greenburg addresses these questions in his next review. I use all features of the phone to the max and I'm not prepared to give up features to have a cool looking case. After all if I wanted to give up features I would have bought another Black Berry : ) Did you have any luck getting your IPhone 4 on launch? I'm still getting tweets ever hour from people trying to find a phone an line ups in the hundreds whenever there is a rumor of a shipment.

Rhino - there are other factors that will affect the signal aside from distance from tower.

Does your living room have plumbing, wiring or concrete around it?

Any RF sources around? Cordless phone, router, security system?

Cut and paste above for your neighbors.

Do you have a Microcell? Because the distance you described - with those WILL affect signal in short distances...

IF it's any consolation - after updating my OS, my IP4 went from FULL SIGNAL to NO SERVICE. Period.

However that's in the past (returned it Thursday) - back to the OLD SCHOOL iP2G.

This is NOT good, the only deal breaker for me. I'm hoping this is not the case, but doesn't sound good at all .

zornet :) :apple:

Hey Big,

That sucks. You mean you phone wouldn't work at all or your bars don't display ? I've kinda given up looking at bars because despite them my phone works great and I've been using it for a week. I have had people say I sound like crap when using it with my car bluetooth system but I expect apple will address that in the next update.

All my major power devices including my wireless are at the opposite end of the house an I don't loose bars in my home office even though it's so jacked, you can feel the hum of electronics when you walk in..........that can't be good for me

Thats because its a render. Don't expect the rendes to look exactly like the real product.

I hear what you're saying but I've been buying off the web for a long time based on pics i've seen of the product they are selling. Why would I expect the item I ordered to look different from the pics the company used to sell me on the produce. Their site didn't say " The item you've purchased my not appear as the one seen here" Too be totally honest I saw the sweet pics and placed my order then and there. I didn't stop to ask myself if the pic I was looking at was a render. I don't expect the seller to post pics of something that kinda looks like what I'm buying. Why even bother to put up images unless they are meant to represent what i'm getting. Unless the purpose is to trick the buyer.
It wouldn't be cool if I used pics of a Porch to sell an old Ford.

Can anyone explain in simple terms how it is possible to enclose the iPhone antenna(s) in aluminum and not have an adverse effect on radio performance?

Now I understand the vapor case may be electrically isolated from the antenna but enclosing the antenna in metal has to be a problem. Could the much discussed gap be necessary for antenna performance?

Now I know Apple's antenna design may not have been perfect, but is covering it with metal an improvement or even acceptable? Thanks.
