The only thing that worries me about this situation is how much of the preorder capital has been used for the production of the cases, overhead, tooling costs, raw material purchase, etc. It is similar to the housing contractor who collects 100% of the job cost from the home owner, uses it to buy materials, pay his subs, pay his past due bills etc. If the first batch of cases fail to satisfy the iphone masses and they request refunds, there may be no money to exchange for the unwanted cases. No one in later preorder batches will want them either, and with no money left and no money coming in, everyone loses. Apple charged my CC the day my preorder when in for the IP4, but I obviously felt confident this multibillion dollar company already had the product made, and if I decided to charge back the company there would be sufficient capital to cover it. In this situation matters are much less clear cut. This CNC'd case is much more complex than their Ipad holder, and injection molding polycarbonate into a 3 piece case for the 3g is faster than machining out something from a "solid block of aircraft aluminum". I would have been much more comfortable with a CC charge upon shipment.
On the other hand it has only been a week and a half or so since the original ship date. I am hoping the company still comes through with a great case in a timely manner...
