Does the Element keep the back of the iPhone slightly elevated above a surface its placed on like the Apple Bumper?

If so, I'm not sure I see the need for the Carbon Fiber "sticker".

Yes it does keep it elevated like the bumper, but I'm sure it would still get scratched over time without the carbon back.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but if it has an adhesive back, it probably means that it is flexible, and is therefore not real carbon fiber.

a single or even dual layer of carbon fiber is still flexible. Single is very bendable, dual can still bend without breaking. I highly doubt it will be a laminated 4 layer back or something that is thick. Applying an adhesive to it is no big deal.

The V4 Carbon Back Plate will be selling for $29 separately when not purchased as a bundle with the Vapor Case

Italics mine.

This leads me to believe that it's not adhesive, but a replacement back plate. They've already shown how easy it is to take the back plate off the iPhone... and other makers are starting to do the same thing.

Pretty sure it's not an adhesive.

We'll see more of these in the future too.

I have thought about buying this, but I want to know what the back part is exactly. Is it a stick on? Or does it replace the whole OEM back of the phone. That would be nice. One last thing to break!

Anyone have any info on this? I tried to send an email... but no luck.

Did you not see what I posted a few posts ago? The guy from Element said it is an adhesive..

UPDATE: Just called them to have the vapor logo removed, and I asked if the carbon fiber back is indeed a replacement back for the iPhone, or an inlay, and he said it has an adhesive back, you peel if off and apply it to the back of the iPhone 4's glass. He did say it won't leave a sticky residue if you choose to ever take it off though. Thought I would inform everyone here.

Read my quote above.

I wonder if they have done any drop tests. Ya it looks cool and all, but will it protect my phone better than a $25 case?

for something that is going to cost me $80 it better protect my phone from drops. It's not like anyone buys a case for pure looks, the main function is to protect the phone from damage.

How can you definitely say this? It is made of aluminum, a material that dents extremely easily...have you done any drop tests or are you just hoping it protects your phone because you already dropped the $80 on it?

It's lined with shock absorbing material to cushion the phone.

Yeah... and the iPhone dents easily too. Which would you prefer to be dented? LOL.

+1 it can bend. This case looks cool but if it's dropped the aluminum will get scratched and scuffed. Then it won't look so cool. I have a preorder for silver/black and I'm hoping the outside is silver. If it gets dropped and scratched you may be able to sand out the scratches without it being too visible.

So are there NO "real" pictures of this bumper .. just the computer-generated images?

I think it's pretty crazy to spend $80 on a product that nobody knows what it even looks like ..

That's what early adopters are for. Let us take the risk. I can't wait for mine to show up. If it's crap then I'll send it back.

Lol.

Godspeed you brave warriors .. just be sure to post pics ASAP so that I can regret buying my Apple bumper.
