Mehh, i dont know why people get upset. Gates was likes this. Balmer. Jobs. Musk. I am sure Ive and Cook tussle behind the scenes, more conscious of their* ego in the public.

How else would you like your leaders? The greatest are always cocky. embrace it. Gotta have that killer instinct.

No, there are lots of leaders and very successful people who aren't like that.

I think Jobs usually kept up his diplomatic facade when speaking on the record. He was well-kown to throw temper tantrums and tear into competitors' (and Apple's own) products behind closed doors, but AFAIK he didn't really do it in public.

If he had been in a similar situation as Musk was in this interview, I think he would have gone into full-on salesman mode and launched into an explanation why Apple's product is far superior than anything competitors could ever hope to offer. Actual public jabs at other companies were far and few between, and they were usually directed at opponents with bigger market share. (IBM in the 1980s, Microsoft in the 1990s, Google/Android in the 2000s.)

Totally agree. Just watch a Tesla 'keynote.' Presentation of that kind isn't Musk's strong suit at all.
It's more like an angry outburst he failed to control. Oops.

Musk is universally regarded as one of the smartest people on the planet...and he's using those smarts to build things that really make a difference. This is widely known. Unquestioned.

That anyone here would belittle him speaks to your own pathetic little life and your failure to apprehend the big issues on the planet.

Most of the world is too polite.

I'd rather have someone speak their mind and clarify. Most people (like Tim Cook) just say what everyone wants to hear.

"THIS IS THE BEST IPHONE WE'VE EVER MADE" - no ****

apple isn't a car company. this should come as no surprise at any angle.

I really liked Tesla until he attacked apple, now I just kinda like Tesla.

Being polite just means you're not insulting, or annoying people you may have relations with in the future.
That's why people are polite, for themselves first, and then for others... Mutually beneficial in the end.

If you don't give a crap about the feelings of the people your talking too, you can be as not impolite as you want.
That's why Trump is, the people who like him and the people he's insulting are generally not the same, or they think they're not the same...
BUT, you must suffer the god damn consequences of your actions with the ones you actually disregarded or insulted.
Many people seem to want one without the other; or bitch if there is a hint of the other.
Free speach doesn't mean freedom from consequences.
Musk could stay on his position and accept whatever comes form that, or walk them back and reduce the damage.
It is entirely his choice, and he chose to backtrack.

There's no "glory" in burning bridges,
if these bridges were already mined and set to blow.
They're no glory in burning bridges you didn't want to go.

You can't blame others for how they'll interpret your message, only you.

How do you figure that? Tesla is yet to have a hit product.

Early macs weren't hits either, they were expensive, reliable machines purchased by what millennials might call "hipsters." That's my experience at least from 3rd parties that have been using Apple products for a long time.

Tesla is in the same position. The technicalities are different but the vox populi seems to tell us that people like Tesla, they like Musk and they would like to buy a Tesla. Plus they would like to work at Tesla too. The current Tesla owners are the same folk that purchased macs before anyone else. Also it's worth noting that Jobs was building a machine for the people, the Model S/X and Roadster were not.

Again, this is based on my experience alone, I have no sources for this but you can probably find some online.

There's such a thing as a smart A hole. The smarts I see is piggy backing on Apples fame.

There is a very big difference between intelligence/smartness and wisdom/integrity/class.

Most of the western society's leaders, commercial or political, are smart/intelligent *******s.

No-one here belittle Musk. He did that himself.

Sometimes these supposed smartest people on the planet say really dumb things too.

And, as someone mentioned above, there is also the matter of wisdom.

Smartest people? No damn way... Lol.
Smartest businessmen? May be.

The biggest defect of Elon Musk is probably his ability to speak publicly, because both form and content. And I'm not talking about being kind, but about his ability to give speeches which is extremely poor considering his other well known abilities. He doesn't speak with fluency and eloquence, he gets stuck and stutters, and in addition he says a lot of foolishness like we're seeing these days. But everybody has defects, like we know.

He didn't attack anyone. First of all stupid media spins everything as it wants and second he just stated the obvious. Duh.

What Apple can do is make a damn good car if they are really making one and prove him wrong.

You're right about the media... so what about the context changes what he said in this case? (honest question... I didn't look up the full transcript)

But let's put it this way... if Apple is really building an electric car similar to what Tesla has done**, why wouldn't they be able to do so? And, probably more quickly than Tesla did because they have a LOT more resources?

** Unfortunately, I'm concerned they are instead goofing about with autonomous technology stuff like Google.

Yea, and if he treats people the way he treats his close relationships... that's a pretty big flaw as well.

I think the Apple Watch is not a lack of features but rather a lack in UI. To navigate and get in to settings is pretty convoluted. The 3D Touch on the 6S/+ works really well for getting to things fast. Watch OS needs to get that sorted and make use of a technology it basically showcased.

The only thing stopping me grabbing one is I need to be connected but able to leave my phone at home when exercising. I could jog with the iPhone 4 but the 6S+ is just too big for that.

Apple wasn't a phone company until it was.

Google isn't a car company, but Google is also working on a car.
