Musk is the only one who sees through this ChatGPT fiasco.
Tim Apple should retire. Musk should be Apple’s next CEO.
But then he would be Elon Apple. I don’t think he’d go for that. Also, he would just bring back OS X.

I don’t trust OpenAI either, nor ChatGPT or whatever genAI…
And I also don’t trust Musk either, regardless of what he knows about AI
Still valid for all big companies.

Isn’t android already chock full of AI?
Yes, and Windows is its own spyware. Adobe just reworked their EULA so that they get to go through anything you open or work on on an Adobe app. We’re in the middle of the biggest data heist in history. Legislation better catch up quick. The US is lagging way behind on this.

You know what he should do to stick it to Apple? Remove Twitter completely from the app store. That'll show them!

But seriously, this is all just about a guy (Elon/Tesla) who got rejected by the popular girl (OpenAI). And the popular girl is going to the prom with the cool guy (Apple). Now he's calling her ugly, and telling the cool guy he's not invited to his party. That's all this is. How does this change anything from before? If I walk in with an existing iOS device, or an android, or windows device with the ChatGPT app installed? Say I allow it access to my microphone, well because I want to speak commands into the app. And I have allowed it to run in the background. Or maybe ChatGPT already defaults to these settings because they are evil anyway. How is THAT not a security risk?

I'm almost thinking this is all a ploy to get Samsung to sign a deal with Grok. Make an enemy of Apple, a friend with Samsung.

As much as I don’t agree with much of what Elon says and does, he is right about one thing. Every bit of your data goes to OpenAI and is there forever, for everyone else to access as well. It’s the exact reason why companies forbid their coders to use AI engines in coding. All the code they upload is available and free for anyone else’s queries to pull down. Not all data is private, but a lot is.
OpenAI also makes versions of chatgpt that can be used internally in companies without info sharing for exactly that reason, my company has one (not that I’ve found it all that useful, I dont find chatgpt generates great code, but that’s a separate problem). I would imagine Apple has plenty of both legally binding and technically vetted guarantees in place for this as well

Of course, its opt in for Apple. Android already has Google's AI integrated. No phones for bro's employees I suppose? And he might just fire you at any moment for no reason, just cause?

If I worked at any of his companies (but particularly for Tesla as their future does not look good after recent group firings he made) I would be looking for work elsewhere.

Just talked about it at work, Apple needs to provide to switch it off, otherwise corporate customers must look to other vendors. And currently Android has it's own problems, wonder what it then would be.

Seriously a lot of hate posts in this thread.
Apple has their say; Elon has his say.

When it comes to AI, based on past history and current dev, Elon knows a heck of a lot more about AI than I do.
I’ll take it with a grain of salt, but I’ll take his word over Apple for now. That may change as I learn more.

Personally I would rather have it stay as an app than bake it into the OS.

Do you think OpenAI has more to lose or gain by trying to secretly collect and use iPhone user data?

The answer seems pretty obvious to me, but your milage may wary.

I think before everyone scoffs at Musk's comment, carefully "reading between the lines" I think he wants Apple to be able to easily use other AI models like X.com's Grok, GitHub's Copilot, Google's Gemini and even Gab's Gab AI, selected by the end user.

Everyone quick to trust Apple on privacy when not too long ago they were going to scan your library for CSAM without even batting an eye. you think they had a change of heart on intrusiveness? I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell..

I think this claim of privacy should absolutely be challenged and have Apple show its work.
