And Apple is quick to offer you another one right away free of charge? I'm just curious do they track the stolen phone? brick it or what?

Im not sure what process they will take. But I paid for a iphone and i want one,,
But they will call me with more information

What I will do is when the package arrives, and it feels light, tell the driver that I think something is wrong, than I will immediately take pictures of the package top to bottom, than open it right in front of the driver. Not hard to do, since if one has a cutter it can be done in seconds. I may even use a video if I feel its light for documentation/proof.

This post is full of some backwoods logic.

Just sitting here shaking my head.

not worth any more words....

I would but my doorman takes the packages. But I am at work ;). Hard to believe right :p

Same here. Nice. :D

You have to wonder if UPS weighs the box throughout the shipping process so that they can determine if the weight changes at any time. If they don't, perhaps they should.

Looks like there are a few inconsistencies with shipping. I've seen two people on facebook who are fairly local to me, who've had TWO iPhones turn up. I couldn't even get one

I had an empty phone box delivered by UPS about 8 years ago. So it happens. UPS sent me a check 2 weeks later to cover the cost of the phone.

Both my iPhones came pre-programmed with my cellphone numbers. Disabling a stolen iPhone is easier than ever.

Easy by way of IMEI, but they can just pop in a new SIM and be up and running until you get the IMEI blacklisted.

My shipping weight says 13lbs.

Service type Standard Overnight
Weight 13.0 lbs/5.9 kg

Should I be concerned at all? I only purchased 1 16gb.

I find it disgusting that some here find the original poster's story suspicious. I'm from Africa and delivery drivers steal the contents of parcels all the time. I had to reorder something yesterday because it was stolen in transit. Only difference is that nothing happens over here.

so Africans steal ?? you had to stress the I am from Africa.........

I get it. Apple knows exactly the IMEI, Serial number, SIM number, and everything about the phone they sent the OP. So if they wanted to, they could disable it. It's up to them whether the cost of doing that and the cost of being customer centric and replacing an alleged stolen phone immediately is worth it. I think it is.

This is different from the situation where it is stolen after its been in use. Apple doesn't know if the theft claim is accurate. Maybe you are getting back at your ex-girlfriend and reporting her phone stolen. They need a police report, yadda yadda, and it gets messy. But when they just sent the darn thing from their factory in China and it hasn't been activated yet, taking a disabling action against that phone should be a no-brainer. Again, if Apple cared to pursue that. Maybe for them its cheaper to send a new phone, keep the customer happy, and count the thief as a new iTunes App Store customer...
