All major carriers block esn and imei numbers in the USA now.

Apple/AT&T/sprint/Verizon have a serial number and imei number of phone when they shipped it out.

The stolen phone cannot be used in the USA. Although they could ship to internationally to use (especially if it were a Verizon iPhone since they have unlocked gsm sim)

so verizon iPhones are automatically unlocked for GSM? there a bunch of IMEI unlock codes out there now so those can unlock Verizon phone also?

I always record videos of opening packages.. if they are valuable. It's happened to me more than once, that a package had something missing in it. With phones having video cams, I don't see why it's not worth the effort to do this.

awww well that's a downer to hear :( sorry to hear, that's just horrible like waking up on christmas day and nothing under the tree.

i'm glad they are replacing it for you, but now it's a waiting game.

Yeah I was pretty excited to get it today. But it's out of my control. Nothing I could do about it.

This is exactly why apple customer service is the best!!!
Plus I got a call from ups that a agent/representative will be coming to my house on Monday to inspect the box.

I have heard of this happening with iPhones and iPads.

I am picking my iPhone up from a UPS Store tomorrow afternoon when I get back home.

I am opening my iPhone up in the UPS Store.

Received empty box today from UPS!!!!!

I awaited the arrival of my iPhone 5, only to open an empty box!!! It had not seemed tampered with. The tracking info states it only weighed .40 Kg. I contacted UPS and they couldn't help me, but apple has informed me that they will send me a replacement. I wanted it today, and I'm still pissed! This is my last pre order.

Good idea, someone in my area imported over 10x iPads with DHL and collected the parcel at the DHL store but only opened it at his business just to find two bricks in the box.

Wow stories like this scares me.

We can do things to protect ourselves. We can pick our package up from A UPS Store or FedEx Kinkos and open it at the store.

We can buy it from Apple because they bill it to a credit card. We can always dispute it with our credit card company.

Apple has good customer service and they will get you taken care of. They have heard of this happening. It just takes time.

I would have hard time bing patient if this happened to me.

Thats the hardest thing is being patient!!
But what else can i do. yelling at someone wont do much...

It never ceases to amaze me how many haters hang out just to harass & make wild accusations.

Same here. I'm reading this thread wondering what makes some of these people tick. Pack mentality at its finest.

Very sorry about your situation... Also sorry you have to deal with idiots replying to this thread accusing you of scamming Apple. Not sure why some people are so hateful. Hope you get your replacement soon!

My wife's phone which was supposed to be delivered on 9/21 never showed up. It still shows "On Vehicle for Delivery" (has said that since yesterday morning). Calling UPS's 800-number they have no idea what's going on beyond the same tracking info we all have access to. We drove down to the HUB and a very nice worker spent an hour looking through hundreds of boxes trying to locate ours, with no luck. She's flagging it to be held when everything gets re-scanned Sunday evening.

Sadly while they are making some Saturday deliveries as part of an agreement with Apple, the UPS employee said she contacted the drivers and it wasn't on any of the trucks as far as she could tell... So this leaves us wondering what in the world happened to it, and why it still says "On vehicle for delivery."

Called Apple support and the lady I spoke with was completely clueless. She refused to acknowledge that I had a conversation with someone at the UPS Hub and just kept repeating that tracking info showed it On Vehicle For Delivery and that we should expect it today. She even said, "I have the tracking number here if you'd like to have that." Like, ummm,... lady, do you not realize that I have been tracking this thing for a week now before the number was even e-mailed to me?

Anyway, I guess I'll call Apple back tomorrow... Surely when it still says "On Vehicle for Delivery" on a Sunday they won't be able to claim that it's really out for delivery.

Thank you at least some people on here are normal.

And yeah this is crazy what is happening to a select few people.
but i hope ur phone comes in soon and is not lost. cause expecting something to come in on release day and not getting it really sucks.
I know its just a phone but still..

Best of luck to you. I know if UPS lost it apple will certainly take care of you.

keep me updated.

How can you prove it was the factory plastic and not plastic reapplied when you remove the phone?

Except Apple does not blacklist anything. Its up to the individual network carriers to do that.

ATT finally just started doing it.

well the video showing close ups of the UPS box being opened and the box never leaving the site of the camera will be enough. the phone was there anyways. Besides if that was the case news channels are a call away and they would love to run with a story about the phone not showing up in the box and apple saying to suck it....

I find it disgusting that some here find the original poster's story suspicious. I'm from Africa and delivery drivers steal the contents of parcels all the time. I had to reorder something yesterday because it was stolen in transit. Only difference is that nothing happens over here.

So delivery drivers may be dishonest but posters on here who claim they were given an empty box are beyond suspicion?

How do you come to that conclusion?

I have seen these threads on many forums for many devices. I remember on a photography forum someone saying their Canon EOD 1D MK II box contained nothing more than a tape gun.

No one knows the truth so why should we believe the OP and why is it disgusting to doubt?

My friends daughter worked hard after school to buy Canon camera. My friend took her Toronto ON Walmart and they bought some brick stones instead of camera in the box. Walmart exchange it for them no question asked, but you should see the girl's face when she opened the box. I told her that I buy her another camera if they don't change it.

After that I realized:
1. Sometimes laws are too liberal. 2. I like Walmart, they saved me a lot of money :)

That sucks, My brothers Iphone when it came in yesterday had part of the UPS box ripped open to the point you could see the Iphone box inside. Im thinking they were completely SOL since the phone was wrapped/pressed down to another piece of cardboard with some plastic and attached to the box.

Ill bet you I can do the same thing and have a rabbit appear out of the box.

You have no unbroken chain from the drivers hand to the opening of the box. I work in the legal system, and thats how those in the system work.

Wrong. All you have to do is open the box from the bottom and remove the old tape and tapr it back up, seal the iphone box back with shrink wrap.

Then you roll the camera like you state and make it look like the box is being opened for the first time.
