Just got off the phone with FedEx's tracking department and they state that it's stuck in Indianapolis and won't be delivered today!

They said it was a package miss-labeled or something and that they apologize blah blah blah. Even though the web-site still indicates that it will be delivered today by 10:30am.

So I said, when will it be delivered then? She said she didn't know.

FedEx really screwed up on me here.

Sorry, they did indicate AM delivery. My order from Day 1 listed "Prority Overnite" as the delivery method. "Priority" is a 10:30am delivery service for a metro area. OTOH "Standard" is a 4pm delivery service for businesses, and 6pm for residential. Furthermore since I rec'd my tracking number yesterday it said "Delivery By: 10:30am."

My beef IS NOT with FedEx (at least not this time). The delayed delivery request is just that a request, but it is a request made by the shipper. FedEx will still deliver based on its own logistics. That is why some are still getting their copy at 10:30.

And it's not a tracking issue either. It's past 10:30 here and the AM FedEx guy has already made his deliveries. He didn't have any Leopard pkgs w/ him. The pkg is probably with the PM FedEx guy.

My post was made on speculation, yes, but educated speculation based on my own long experience with FedEx, not just pulling junk out of my backside. I was just commenting. You are the one getting all bent out of shape that I'm criticizing Apple here.

If it was Apple then why are the "delivery exceptions" made at different times? Mine was made at 8:44am and pushed my delivery from 10:30am back to 12:00pm. It seems more likely to me that the drivers are making these requests as some others have been told.

Mine was delivered at 9:53 this morning in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and I left a signature waiver at the house.

Hopefully, "ACI Management" doesn't make them come back and take it away before I get home... lol

Just talked to driver

She said that she knew something was odd when everyone, she delivered these little boxes to, was at home. I mentioned the delivery exception (future delivery requested). She said that happens sometimes when they don't think they can make it by 10:30.

I infer from this that FedEx gets an exception from Apple to deliver later due to sheer volume of deliveries.

Wow! How last minute can she be. Truck just got here. The time 10:27, 3 minutes to spare. Talked to the person, apparantly they had too many and decided not to deliver all of them now BUT since I called a bunch she delivered it. So CALL FEDEX A LOT ;)

That's actually a very, very good point. Everyone's assuming that the request went from Apple to FedEx, but it's easily believable that it actually went the other way and FedEx requested from Apple to deliver later because they were having trouble meeting the 10:30 target.

No way. If Apple wanted them delivered later in the day, they would have used a different shipping rate (overnight standard?). Believe it or not, Apple doesn't have that much clout with FedEx. Once the packages are in FedEx's hands, FedEx controls the delivery protocols, not Apple.
Not so sure about that. This morning around 6am tracking showed my package would be delivered by 10:30. At 10am I checked again and saw that my package was on the truck for delivery, but that there was an exception error and the time had been pushed back to 5pm. I called FedEx, and the representative said she didn't see any reason for the exception and that my package should have been delivered by 10:30. She told me she would call the delivery facility, who in turn would check with the driver. She then told me that the delivery facility would call me back when they learned something. The driver showed up with package at 11am and told me that he delivered in as soon as he could. About 15 minutes latter Fedex left a message on my machine that the shipper, "Ingram software" gave them the OK to deliver the package after 10:30am, and that my package would be delivered sometime to day. I'm not sure who Ingram Software is, possibly one of the companies pressing disks, but apparently they instructed FedEx not to deliver before 10:30 am

i called fed ex

And they said that their drivers are requested future delivery exceptions because they're so overwhelmed by the number of leopard shipments they have.

They are one of apple's distributers, and No, they did not "instruct" FedEx to not deliver before 10:30, but they told fedex that if they can not make all their deliveries by 10:30 that they will grant an exception, and they can deliver after 10:30.

Apple doesn't care what time we get it, Ingram doesn't care what time we get it. They just need to have these "delivery exceptions" documented for when they get the fedex invoice so they know how much to pay.

Patiently Awaiting

My copy of Leopard was out for delivery before 8am. As of 10:20 it says delivery exception by noon. It is almost 12 and nothing.. I just checked! I live in a building where there is someone at the front desk at all times who signs for all packages so I have no idea why this 'delivery exception' is coming up. I do live near an Apple Store but that seems ridiculous that my location would be holding it up.

Ohhh... thanks GB- that makes sense!!!!

Apple screwed us

My FedEx delivery got pushed back to "expected by 3pm" after showing 10:30am since the shipment got entered. The "delivery exception requested" happened after it was on a FedEx truck. Who knew that FedEx/Apple had that sort of Big Brother control over the delivery systems.

In the same line of thought, it's also interesting that Apple.com has taken down the discussion thread on this issue. On their support/discussion boards it says "We'll be back soon. We are busy updating Apple discussions for you and will be back shortly." But thanks to Google, you know that the discussion used to exist. One Big Brother disagreeing with another Big Brother.

I still haven't gotten mine (wife is supposed to call) and the tracking site hasn't been updated since yesterday...

:( I am really excited and worried all at once.

At 10:09, I got the "Delivery Exception - Future Time" thing. At 11:21 I got "Delivery Exception - Customer Not Available" with a note saying it will be attempted again on Monday. I am sitting right here -- no one knocked.

At 11:30 I called FedEx and got a rep on the line without much of a wait. She couldn't figure out what the driver had done or why, but determined that my package is at a nearby FedEx facility. They have it sitting out waiting for me and I am on my way to go get it.

BOTTOM LINE: If you are getting the Exception notices, call FedEx and find out where your package is. You may be able to pick it up yourself today since it looks like they are dead serious about delivering on Monday.

By the way, I'm in Atlanta and I noticed someone upthread got theirs delivered this morning in Atlanta. I guess whether you get yours depends on how busy your particular driver is today or how hard he hit the bong this morning!

I live in Seattle. Today I got this:

Oct 26, 2007 8:26 AM
Delivery exception
SEATTLE, WA
Future delivery requested

I called FedEx and the woman said I wasn't there to sign for it. However, I completed the pre-sign online form and taped it to my door. The FedEx woman tried to argue that I probably taped it to the inside of the door where the delivery guy couldn't retrieve it. I said no and that he'd have to have x-ray vision to know it was there if that was the case. She apologized and said it will be attempted again around 4:30pm. Frustrating. What's up?

I don't care if it's 9 PM as long as I get it today. I had it shipped to my house 1 hour away (I'm at college), and my parents are coming up tomorrow to bring it to me as well as watch the football game. If it comes Monday I'll have to drive home and then back here again to pick it up, which isn't really THAT bad but I still wanted it for the weekend.

I see your point. Despite the "priority overnight" which was listed on my account, the Apple sales rep I spoke to still emphasized 6pm.

While I concede that your expectation in this light was reasonable, I think you could still argue that there might not have been sufficient flexibility in the systems to properly describe the shipping method Apple is using in this case, i.e. a "deliver at 6pm if logistically possible" method of delivery. Neither FEDEX, nor the Apple order status page allows for this.

Still, I concede in retrospect that your expectation of an AM delivery was more reasonable than I previously would have thought. But I don't think you can make the leap from frustration at your neglected expectation to outrage as a shareholder.

Just got back home from work early to pick up the wait. Status for me is still by 7pm. Out of curiosity did anyone notice if Apple provided a deadline time for delivery by the 26th?

I got off the phone with a Fed Ex representative, and she promised that it won't be delayed past the 1pm mark for me. Hopefully, she's right.

I had a 10:30 that was excepted at 9:15. I called, they said it will still on for 10:30. Then it moved to 12:30, i called and they said yes it will be by 12:30. It is now at 5:30. I hate fed ex. I had stuff I needed to do today (like fly down for the Florida Georgia game).

Errrr

Im supposed to be able to pick it up this morning.... sucks... its 9:40am here and its still in Indianapolis... strange route seeing I live in CA...

Mine is even better. Was sitting at home waiting, talking to wife on the phone.

- 945am I said "he has 45min left."

- 10am "30min left."

- 1020am "10min left. If hes not here at 1030 Im going to call FedEx and complain about priority overnight that I didnt pay for" (kidding)

- 1026am "4min left, I dont think he is going to make it"

- 1030am "hes late"....hear a low rumble from a truck on my street, look outside, hes just pulling up. Literally, 1030am delivery on the money.

:D

I get the same message.... saying delivery exception. FedEx told me that the will not be able to get it to me today. The guy was unable to say when I would get it.

:(

Also, he told me that the exception was at the request of the shipper.
