What if Apple was behind this so-called brouhaha? They certainly are the ones to benefit from an implosion of the jailbreaking scene.

At the very least it revealed that there are many melodramatic drama queens ready to get all emotional at the drop of a hat. I guess I shouldn't be surprised at the meltdown going on.

As far as i can tell the Evasi0n team didn't ever give saurik a chance to update cydia, Mobile substrate, winterboard and so much more which is all required to even have anything running correctly on a jailbreak. Why? Because this Chinese company made a deal with them. Saurik decided to simply work with others to help them out and so he can update the software we all need to run all our favorite jailbreak stuff. The evasi0n team heard this and rushed this JB out (it's quite clear because many parts of the JB look quite unfinishedHere is a link to a well know Tweak dev who talks about the kernel being crappy. ) in order to make that money with the deal they made. Many were angry that this Chinese app may pull data and many more are angry about the piracy. Then Many are angry at Saurik for not having cydia and such not ready and the Evadi0n team pass the blame to him and say he rushed them to take the heat off of themselves.

the jailbreak community is filled with a bunch of whiny children. Most of us regular joes don't give a flying crap about a Chinese app; and have been waiting for a jailbreak for months, and now it comes out with some some app and devs want to complain about it. Guess what... if someone wants to pirate your apps they would still find the apps with the Chinese app or without it.

I don't blame evasion they are trying to get paid. Saurik has all the ads though out cydia so he gets paid.

Keep in mind that 99% of the ads in cydia aren't from Saurik but from the repo owners. And the ads from both are there to pay for the servers to run cydia and the repos for you for free.

Not sure what to make of this from a users point of view. I've successfully jailbroken with evad0rs but what's the point? So many tweaks are not supported. It sort of seems theres been a massive loss of interest for developers to update their apps... I hope I'm wrong but the scene certainly isn't what it used to be.

The jailbreak has been released for 13 hours, chill.

There are Cydia repo's and piracy apps yet nothing's been done about it. If this was such a big deal, Saurik would've removed all traces of piracy apps in Cydia.

The truth is that nobody cared as long as they got their jailbreak. Piracy apps has always been a big proponent in Cydia and jailbreaking. I find it hypocritical that people are now pissed off when nothing was done ban piracy repo's and apps in the past.

Saurik can't stop somebody from adding another repo but you will never find cracked apps in the default repo set or any of the official repo collections. Nobody can stop pirates so don't act like saurik doesn't care.

I, for one, am extremely happy that the Jailbreak team did not consult with Cydia/Saurik. Too long have we been dependent on him and his adware. It REALLY annoyed me when he came out with a policy that forbade developers to post utilities that would block ads in Cydia or iAds. At the same time, the number of ads in Cydia skyrocketed.

I hope he made his money, time to get rid of Cydia and return to the spirit of jailbreaking. Uninstalled SBSettings and BigBoss crap from all of my jailbreak devices for the same reason.

Also think it's sad and funny that he's complaining about the Evasi0n team accepting money for temporarily including a pirate Chinese app store.

Here's to a new generation of Jailbreaks and a better replacement for Cydia!

yay! now delete cydia asap and tell us what you have done with your jailbreak!

That's the problem. Jailbreaks are currently dependent on Cydia to function. It's quite annoying.

That said, In the past, I've always jailbroken my devices starting within hours of a new one coming out. This time around, I'm going to sit tight on my new Devices until a 7.1 Jailbreak is confirmed. I may update and JB my old iPad 3 though... it's still on 6.1.2 for JB. I'll hold off on the Retina mini and iP5s for now.

Edit: The business world is pretty dependent on Microsoft. Does that mean we have to like it/them?

For clarification,

1) So was this other team working with Saurik waiting for 7.1? Seems like one of the arguments people have against the rushed release.

2) Geohot was looking to privately sell exploits or release a public jb? Private sale would possibly ruin the chance a public jb?

3) Were the evad3rs afraid of losing exploits they were saving for the future?

Seems like a lot of mistrust for a team that has released a previous jb we've been running for awhile. After the smoke clears and it turns out evasi0n 7 is clean, would any of your thoughts change?

My guess is that they feared another instance of SHAtter was going to happen again. There are probably other reasons but you seem to focus on loss of exploits

It was basically a business and price disagreement.
Negotiations fell through and then alternate options came up and threats might have came out.
Fine I'll get another team to finish up the JB or fine we will provide another alternate JB hack appstore so you're not the only monopoly available.
And so on. It's about profits and both sides have made plenty so far and will continue making more money with this new JB and so on. Its kinda pointless to try to take sides. I'm just glad we got a new JB for ios 7 and could care less if someone made more money than the other or whatever. Lets not fool ourselves, they're not doing this just for fun or just to be nice and provide a free service to everyone. There's money to be made and lots of it. And why shouldn't they make any? They deserve it.

I've read through a lot of the drama here and on reddit and I think I'm missing something crucial. I JB'd tonight using evasi0n but from what I can see it only installed Cydia (automatically, I was not prompted). Where is this evil taig stuff supposed to reside?

supposedly gets installed if you're jailbreaking while the iDevice is in the chinese language

After the smoke does clear and its proven that the jailbreak is clean, I will install. But until then, no. I don't trust it at this point.

They do deserve compensation. But there's a huge difference between community contributors and corporate/national sponsors. The jailbreak experience becomes antithetical to the jailbreak community and poses a far more serious threat to Apple and businesses/governments invested in iOS devices. A relatively small amount of piracy has been tolerated in exchange for jailbreak innovation which Apple then incorporates. Having the Chinese sponsor the latest jailbreak upsets this balance and we're no longer a rebellious but harmless hacker community, rather our devices and use, despite our best intentions, are now completely suspect.

I can't comment on the other two but in regards of this one, apparently (read it on his twitter account), Geohot register another ra1n domain saturday night and maybe ( not really sure) was ready to release a tool with an exploit that p0sixninja told him about, since he said that his Chinese deal fell thru after speaking with lawyers.

It's always about the money. Which is fine, everybody expects to get paid in his or her job, so why should the evad3rs not be paid for there work?

If you look at @Musclenerds tweets is becomes a bit clear:

@i0n1c I absolutely agree that the open letter should have been timed with the release. But saurik’s having “fun” made everything a rush

@i0n1c there’s *still* stuff we wish we could reveal. We’re encumbered by NDA with saurik (he sure covered his bases there:) )

@0x8badfl00d but for instance in this case, our best estimate (at the time) was the racer was gonna kill 1 specific thing needed by 7.1 JB
https://twitter.com/MuscleNerd/status/415027642526875648

It looks indeed like a business disagreement with the threat of a 7.1 exploit being burned in the process.

It would have helpt if the evad3rs had published the chinese connection at release.
Also it would have helpt if i0n1c had not cried WOLF again in his usual manner.
Sometimes it is better to address an issue without any wild accusations.

For now let the dust settled.

The evad3rs and saurik both have a vested interest in a continued collaboration so do other Dev's who might now be pissed off an threaten to walk a way.

For now i wish they just fix the ipad2 wifi boot loop issue!

Quite possibility the most most ridiculous post on here. The reason people jailbreak is for Cydia.

If you don't like it so much how about you uninstall it. Lets see if you like you're jail break just as much.
