How did you go about setting up the WatchOS upgrade with Apple? Do you reckon it’s something they could do at a Genius Bar?

I’m currently negotiating with someone on eBay about an S2 Ceramic that is open box but unused/unactivated. If I can get the price down enough, I suspect I’ll have a similar problem regarding the ancient OS.
I just contacted the Apple Support chat, and they set up a repair ticket for me free of charge. They also said some store locations may have older OS phones to pair the watch to so you can update it, but it’s something you have to call ahead about. If you have and older iPhone on iOS 11 or 12 though, you can use that to pair to the watch, update it, and unpair. I’d ask your friends & family if you don’t have one yourself.

I’d be interested to see the listing you’re negotiating on. I wasn’t able to find many S2 Ceramic listings, so I ended up bidding on one this morning and won it for I think 230. It’s used, but I didn’t see much wear on it.
edit: that’s probably because you’re on eBay UK, whereas I’m in the US.

did apple change the milanese loops when the switched from 42/38 to 44/40, i just got a 44mm that can be separated at one of the lugs.
Yeah, the lugs changed, and on the newer ones you can fully separate one side of the band. I’m personally not much of a fan.

“Mashed potato” were the 1st Gen. The Gen 2 are the same as the Gen 3 just without the stitching then Gen 4 is the same as Gen 3 but with bigger buckle.
Yeah, I know. I meant the 2nd gen came out to replace 1st gen, joking about how Apple didn’t like the first gen design.

Didn’t they change it for AirPower and now it’s back again? I’m so mad my gold milly separates because my brain sometimes forgets it’s not like my other old millies and i will let it fall out and leave my watch dangling for its life.

That saddle brown is actually Gen 3 Classic Buckle
I’m fully willing to be wrong on this. Choreo’s 2/3 labeling etc has me kind of confused.

BUT I’m pretty sure my husbear got this band with his series 2 sss watch because we were just looking up his series 3 order and it came with this weird Hermes-esque M/L only soft white band.

Wanna say that series 2 classic buckle was the last time they let you get anything but a white sport band with sss until the series 5 Studio.

Unless you’re saying the series 2 came with a third-generation leather band? Which explains why I’m so confused by the midnight blue being 2/3? For this project I’m fine being less than precise with leather buckles and Hermes as I think most people are pretty checked out on them.

Also @mikedop is checking my work so blame him! Unrelated question has anyone heard from him? I’m out of town and I have him August access to my house and I haven’t heard from him. He was supposed to meet me here with all my watch bands.

The S/M should be in the little packet, as it is with almost every non-Hermes square box. But yes, I can confirm Soft White has plagued the SSS default since the S2 era. I think Milanese loops were still bundled with SSS throughout the S2’s lifespan as the “not poor” upgrade, but I could be wrong.

Gen 2 (which was the first saddle brown classic buckle) did not have the fake stitching—just the embossed border line. I had one.

Congrats on getting your Ceramic! I presume that means you can start buying bands again 😉

There are very few Ceramics listed in the UK, other than some stupidly cheap S5s that I’ll come to later...

The S2 I’m looking at is listed at £700, which made me laugh... I went in with a super low-ball and they countered with £400, so there is clearly wiggle room. If I can get them under £300, I’ll pull the trigger - going to use the lack of WatchOS 7 compatibility as a lever.

As for the S5s, one place has had them for £500-£600...BUT they are 3rd party refurbs that have had their screens replaced and are no longer guaranteed to be waterproof! I would imagine they have been fitted with Ion X rather than Sapphire Crystal plus they don’t come with any of the original accessories. The seller offers a full one-month warranty though...

Ah, gotcha. A friend of mine said there’s very few ceramics over there in Europe, so I would imagine any that do pop up tend to be pretty expensive! Mine didn’t come with the dock charger, but I’m not crying because they seem to be moderately priced on eBay.

Ok so because Apple didn’t do a new watch in Fall 2015, they must have bailed on mashed potato and done this embossed gen 2 in between S0 and S1/2 launch in Fall 2016. GOTTTTTT IT. Hence why the classic buckle is on generation three while the watch is only on second. NGL, this is the exact kind of useless trivia I was hoping to get out of this project. Thanks, family. Fixing the images now.

At least my memory is right for once, that the stitching launched/bundled with the series 2, Apple newsroom:

No for some reason s3 sss got the Hermes treatment and never came with an S/M.

Edit: wrong af, see later post

Correct re: timing. I jumped on the saddle brown classic buckle as soon as it was released, and I got it in September 2015. The pic I posted was from my receipt of my shiny new Apple TV 4 in October 2015.

I swear sometimes it’s like I don’t exist smh..
My presence on this thread is a master class in false memory and weird fake explanations for things. My only excuse here is that it wasn’t my watch and perhaps I didn’t do the full unboxing. They really hide it away good! I guess the M/L is too long for the diagonal length of the old square box. But as recently as this morning I was telling myself I had gone to the Apple Store site and checked that it only came with M/L, which I’m sure is just a false memory I pasted over from a similar experience looking up the Hermes “What’s in the Box”

Page 500!

Celebrating with a change of bands.

The quality of something is determined by its length/girth, right?

in terms of the LL... sure?

(Also why do I always look so pale in these photos? I swear I go outside sometimes...)
