Well done Apple. I'm most excited about upgrading the OS upgrades and the new iPhone. The Airpods are the answer to my quest for lightweight wireless headphones, assuming they have good sound isolation. The phone's camera improvements, force press, increased memory...and so on make the upgrade from a 6 plus worth it for me.

I'll probably upgrade my iPad Air 2 to a Pro 9.7" after the next iteration comes out and prices drop. My MacBook 2015 isn't even close to needing an upgrade, plus I spend most of my time on my iPad and iPhone. Sometimes I wonder why I still have a Mac computer.

While there are a host of features that I wish Apple would implement to improve their products, I cannot complain about anything that they have done. All good things. It's not like the explosive Samsung phone, junkware-ridden Windows Phone, Zune music player( remember that ? ) , or useless Amazon Fire Phone ( come one, you remember it! ) where there are reasons to not buy it.

Remember, if you aren't ready to give up your wired headphone yet, you don't have to. Keep what you have or upgrade and get an adapter and keep what you have. It isn't complicated!

I was not expect much since Tim Cook Sold his stock before the keynote event. If he had faith he would hold on to his stock.

I can't believe a company with 5,000 Engineers and almost 200 Billion in the bank, and this is the best they can come up with. Just Rehashed Products Dress up with Marketing. I don't think it will work though, i can Gaurantee this iPhone 7 will be the lowest presales in the company history.

No Real Reason to Upgrade. I have a iPhone 6s, if i had a iPhone 5s i still would not upgrade.

Kudos on the video! I never was a fan of tech videos but those on Macrumors never disappointed me. Must have been a serious effort to get this 5 minutes out on such a short notice. Keep on doing those, I love them!

I have a antique an iPhone 6 Plus lol. And I'm keeping it another year, I know I can get 3 solid years out of this device. And the battery is stil epic.

I had missed the home button will no longer click. As inconsistent as 3D Touch is I hope this works better or they just screwed up a huge interface element for ... What? No gain at all?

I hope it works amazing but I have less confidence in the new apple in getting things like that perfect. I feel they settle for half way done solutions sometimes. If the home button is one- that will royally suck. Here is hoping they got it right- but I will miss the click button. It is really well done.

That was the worst Apple event ever. Especially the 20 plus minutes talking about camera specs. Two hours for an updated Watch and iPhone. I was really hoping for a new Mac Book Pro and some time devoted to MacOS and TVOS. That was just sad ;- I am starting to feel like Apple has lost their direction and focus.

No one expected new Macs. You were the one out of focus. That was a camera joke.

It's amazing how vast majority of commenters on MacRumors now are so negative towards Apple. Why don't you guys go troll android forums or something?

I'm not saying we should blindly praise Apple, but I mean come on...

They are working, they are just doing their jobs so that they can buy iPhone7. Imagine waiting an articles newly posted so they can comment first.

Wait... why is it called the A10 Fusion processor? Why not just the A10?

I think its named that way because A10 mixes high and low throttle cores into a single chip. I think Phil said that when dense loads that require high processing power are given, the chip utilizes 2 designated cores that process tasks at max throttle for performance gain, but when lighter loads are thrown, the other two cores with lower throttle process them to conserve battery.

iPhone 7 Graded based purely on what Apple told us today:

A10 Processor: B-
2x faster than a 2 year old process is progress but the main thing here is battery life. 1-2 more hours is nothing to write home about. (minus 1/3 for the silly 'fusion' name - more marketing gimmicks from Apple). Leave my speed the same and give me battery life.

Stereo Speakers: B
A bonus of removing the headphone jack. Probably won't blow anyone away but still use my iPhone speakers quite a bit so this is a welcome upgrade.

Flush Force-Touch Home Button: C
I'm sure this is to eliminate issues due to the home button which is a good thing, but this seems like a transition fix until they come up with a better solution. Not innovation, just saving trouble/fixes/less moving parts on their end and passing it off as innovation.

IP67 Water Resistance: A-
This is probably the most important and least sexy update. I'm sure the water resistance is better than what's advertised (reports on Apple Watch with same rating have good results). Implementing protective features for a $800-$900 phone is always a great idea. Only thing better would be if they made it water-rating of 8.

Lighting EarPods/Removing Headphone Jack: B
The jury is out until this is seen how it plays out over the long term. Removing the headphone jack to allow for other upgrades (camera/stereo speakers/etc.) is a smart trade off in the long run. Sure customers are going to be upset but 50% of people use the headphones that come standard and this will force the industry to come up with a new alternative. The only reason I stayed at a 'B' is because the lighting port hasn't been the most durable port. The long term improvements by adding that space should be interesting.

12MP Camera: (7 — B) (7+ — A-)
The 7 upgrade is good but not a wow-factor. 7+ upgrade with dual camera is solid. The camera is always the place to improve and Apple continues to do a good job here. Updated flash is good. Glad to see the FaceTime camera updated too.

Colors: C+
The Jet Black is intriguing but most people put their phones in cases so having a fancy-shiny phone that gets covered up is not that interesting. I imagine people who get the Jet Black will not get a case and then have buyers remorse in 6 months after there are heaps of scratches. Apple's color scheme continues to bore. The only reason this isn't a 'D' is going to a darker black on the Matte was a good decision.

Retina HD Screen: D+
Improved brightness is always nice but there are other issues more important (glare, more durable or even non-breaking screen).

Storage: B+
128GB mid-tier and 256GB high-end is good. I wasn't expecting this update to storage yet, though with 4K filming it would fill up very quick. Now the question has to be - how is it that they only charge $100 more for the upgrade from 128GB to 256GB on the iPhone but on the MacBook Pros they charge $200 more?

Design: C
They smoothed the protruding camera some so that's nice. But to have a protruding camera because you're making it marginally lighter and thinner and skimp on battery life is a seriously inept decision. I'd take the larger, heavier phone (speaking of fractions of an inch and grams) and get 15-25% more battery life than a phone that doesn't lay flat when I put it down.
------

Overall Grade: B-

Nothing about this phone makes me want to go drop $900 on Friday. Some nice changes (Water Resistance is great, Camera is good) but until there is a major update (e.g., like 3G to LTE or the bigger phones from 5s to 6) then I'll probably just get a 6S, save a few hundred dollars and wait to see what they do with the 2017 iPhone.

Ok guys, but please no lines on launch day. Torn between jet black and black, the 7 and plus

Just for a laugh, and it will be a laugh, please explain what would be required, in similar detail for an A in each category. I shall save it and call it delusion.html

This^ I'm also disappoint the original iPhone wasn't faster. The iPhone 6 should have been as fast as the 6s and the first MacBook Pro should have been Retina display. It make me mad when companies don't release products with technology that hasn't been invented yet. They should have just shoved a faster processor in the first Apple Watch.

Or wait until performance reaches a level that's more than barely adequate while still charging premium prices. It only took 1-2 more years. I've had a few people tell me that they hardly use their Apple Watch because it's slow to respond at times. You often hear that you should wait until gen 2 with Apple and that's been proven several times with the iWatch as the latest example. If performance had not been an issue, do you think Apple would have upgraded the processor inside Apple Watch Series 1 (original Apple Watch) to the same one as the new Series 2. It was an issue and Apple addressed it. You know I'm right so don't play.

I'm sure the iPhone 7 will be a great phone but, like everything from Apple these past couple of years (maybe since Steve's been gone), it feels more like small refinements than any kind of wow factor. (And, generally speaking, Android has caught up, although Android phones are only comparable to iPhones hardware-wise at the high end.)

Apple has brought us a lot of magic over the years, first with the Mac, many years later with the iPod and iTunes digital music, and finally with the iPhone. They sorta missed the boat on revolutionizing TV, although Apple TV is nice enough. Smart watches will always be a niche. I'm not sure where Apple can go now to really bring back the magic. VR? Cars? It's very unusual for a company to be able to continually innovate, reinvent itself and produce leading products in new categories. Maybe Apple has peaked in terms of cultural impact and from here on it's just more of the same, just a little better every year.

Great iPhone . Air Pods should be cheaper or included to compensate for lack of hardware change.
Internals and cameras appear to be better than 6S. I would give this update a B or B+. Its definitely not an A+ like the 6S was.
