SHAME on APPLE; Innovations? I have been a die hard apple user from the earliest devices. The last few years Apple OS and standard apps are bug ridden and fail the apple community. Innovations? what a joke; today's presentations was embarrassing...been rehearsed. Real-time collaboration AWESOME; What a joke of a demo. This has been available for 10 years as an industry collaboration standard. It took a few years by Apple even to sync iBooks with non-iTunes books e.g. PDFs. Much less Apple Continuity (Sync across all devices; laden with bugs and data corruption) Apple is so full of BS. They backed up the bus on old technology and tried to put lipstick on its lack of innovation. For those of you BLOWN away by hardware specs; if there isn't a software value provided then what does it matter. The Apple Apps and OS's are static for over 6+ years. I have to admit; I am pursuing moving back to Microsoft hardware and software; the past years they are blowing Apple away....Tim is focused on politics and his sexuality (who gives a S%^) and not running an innovative company. And the absolute joke of entertainers and closing artist. Shame on all the apple leadership! Tim has to go and all the old diehards collecting a massive check for no reason!
Oh, you're new here.

The future is wireless.

Were you against the graphical user interfaces too, because we had text interfaces before. If you want old technology, Apple is not your company.

Anything wireless needs discreet power
Anything with power needs battery
Anything needs battery needs recharging
Any recharge needs cords (that includes wireless charging pad)

So with that syllogism, more wireless = more cords. LOL

Sadly it kind of is... if you want to have the latest and greatest hardware, you're not going to get it from Apple (look at their current computer line up).

I agree about the MacBook Pro, and that's an incremental change that is not happening.

Still, I like that Apple push things forward. It will upset some, but in the end we are all better off.

The technology to transfer audio wirelessly has been around for a hundred years. This is 2016 with mobile Internet, fingerprint sensors, and digital assistants you can talk to.

People should not walk around with cables on their body, it's ridiculous.

Apple is finally doing something about it. Some people can't see the greater vision, let them complain. They will come around.

I disagree. It was a good event.
Yes, that is what it is becoming. An event instead of a press conference.

I attend press conferences mostly for the free food, gift bags and door prizes. Press events of local companies that are known for their stinginess mostly don't attract too much people over here. However would attend any Apple press conference any time, even without the performances!

They still pair the gold one with a white face -.-

Anyway, if they make the next SE with these features (especially the waterproofing) while there's still no Android phonemaker make a decent small phone, I'm gonna jump on to iOS!

removing that 64gb option is another artificial way of convincing consumers to spend that $100 to buy higher model. same thing repeated.

I'll agree, somewhat.

I have a 64GB iPhone 5, the highest available when it was released and I paid $849 for it, and I found that it was actually more than enough space in the time I've had it. With the rumors and leaks about 128GB being the mid-range model, I knew I'd be getting that so I don't mind shelling out the extra $100 for it as it's plenty of space for today's mobile devices and double the capacity compared to the iPhone 5 I bought in 2012.

I definitely agree that Apple not passing the savings or just increasing the base model to 64GB is a way of funneling the customer to just shell out the extra $100 to get an additional 96GB of space. They could have definitely started the base model at 64GB but they're getting greedy, that's capitalism unfortunately.

Where I disagree is having all that space really necessary on a phone that starts at 32GB? I mean, considering all the cloud services offered out there and the ability to dump photos and everything else on a home computer, 64GB would be a nice option but 32GB is probably plenty for 80% of users. Hell, the boot drive in my 2011 iMac is a 240GB Sandisk SSD that I installed myself alongside the 1TB HDD it shipped with. My MacBook Pro was the base 15" 2014 model that shipped with a 256GB SSD and I have an external 240GB external SSD and neither ever fill up. I'm a photographer and yes, I need a lot hard drive space but for that I have my Thunderbolt RAID box that I built. I'm in that rare percentage of the population that might need more space for large applications but for things like a mobile device, 32GB of space is probably plenty for a phone for most.

They didn't remove anything. They doubled all the sizes. But I guess saying it accurately doesn't fit the "Apple is terrible" narrative, does it?

And they double the sizes of all iPads, including the mini 2.
The only device left with 16GB is iPhone SE

I think the bright side for me is it basically made up my mind that after having iphones for 8 years, it's time to try something new!

You know, I'm almost there with you. These keynotes and the products Apple has been announcing have been rather boring since 2012 for me and I'd love to try something new. However, I've dumped so much money into Apple products and got locked into their macOS and iOS ecosystems that switching to Windows or Android would be a headache now.

The only issue with the AirPods is the battery, or lack of it.

For example, imagine you have a 6 hour flight. You are sitting, listening to your music happily for the first 4 hours and then they run out of juice.

Do you:

1) Sit for the next half an hour to an hour for the AirPods to recharge in the AirPod box thing.

2) Curse yourself for leaving your AirPod recharge box in the luggage hold.

3) Smirk to yourself that you craftily thought ahead and brought some old analogue headphones with you. Only to swear under your breath that you forgot the damn adaptor.

I love the idea of wireless headphones and have looked at the options before. But there is plenty of thinking ahead to be done with these.

Apple's today released:

1. iPhone with improved camera (with a much bigger disgusting wart in the back)
2. Improved iWatch
3. Wireless EarPods

Now Apple products line consist of:

1. Old iPhones next to new iPhones
2. Old iPads next to new iPads
3. Old Apple watches next to new Apple watches
4. Old MacBooks next to new MacBooks
5. Old Macs only

Jony the coward doesn't even shows up on stage, he sends pre-packaged video instead

Steve Jobs would have never have released a 5 hours headphones. 10 hours ? yes

Coming from an iPhone 4s I think the iPhone 7 will be a big upgrade for me so I am excited a bit. But I am not seeing a huge step ahead in terms of innovation on the phone coming from 6S.
Also I will probably go for an Apple Watch 2 - Sports.

I did want to buy at some point a new Macbook Pro - but it's better it wasn't announced now because I will have more time to collect money to upgrade my HW.

I decided to do a 4 years HW cycle renewal because I end up spending less money and the technology jump is quite big in this timeframe.

Apple's discussion was for 2 hours mainly focused on taking devices to be part of your life.
Every year Apple talks less and less about work related things. It was like max 10 minutes about iWork and some SWIFT for Education and that's it.
It becomes cleared and clearer how things go on.

Just take a different perspective for a minute:
Every HW product was practically tied to a SW products.
How can you sell anymore HW without relating it to something appealing?
iphone 7 - Nintendo Super Mario
apple watch - pokemon go

Photos and Lenses and Showing off Bokeh :))) makes me laugh. They want to sell the idea that people will be able to get much better photos using iPhones.
I remembered when they showed a low light portrait - Horrible from photography point of view - the subject was way underexposed and the quality of light was very bad :))
Another one was showing direct flash on a face demonstrating True Tone - but in all honesty - it was horrible, at least to my eye.

On top of this, Apple has changed course to a different era - and people should calm down with innovation hysteria.

Apple is no longer selling the same dreams as it was in the past. The world has changed. (The world is changed. I feel it in the water. I feel it in the earth. I smell it in the air. LOL)

Their marketing now is very well placed to address new generation of people and they really seem to know what hey are doing.
Either way, their products still stand out at this moment. And please... don't say Android.... I love Samsung HW but SW it's not working out for me still...

Apple is no longer a rebel. Rebels are those who are small... Apple grew a lot and it's hard to play the rebel when you really don't have to fight others as much as before.
They changed.... they still are Apple... stop complaining and keep your money in your pocket if you have an iPhone 6 or 6S....
You don't need to upgrade and you shouldn't!
Put those dollars/euros/pesos in your account and have some savings or go take a nice vacation with some friends.
People are more valuable than gadgets - well... some of them... others are disposable like my 4s iPhone.

Cheers - and remember - Earth keeps spinning without an upgraded iPhone.

I think Apple>Samsung and iOS>Android, but Apple needs to make dramatic improvements. This was a marginal improvement. I think the home button should be gone already. They are all about planned obsolescence.

I'm in total agreement with you, Apple does need to make dramatic improvements. The reason they can't do that is the fact that they locked themselves into a yearly upgrade cycle a few years back so every upgrade year after year will seem very incremental. The thing that Apple can do to remedy this problem is to go back to allowing new products to bake until it's really ready for release so new upgrades will seem like giant leaps instead of baby steps. Of course, they won't be doing that any time soon as they need to excite customers and keep their stock price up year after year now.

One thing you can do is do what I did and just stick with products until you use it into the ground. My iPhone upgrade cycle has been: original iPhone in 2007, iPhone 4 in 2010, iPhone 5 in 2012, and now iPhone 7 in 2016. This will feel like a big upgrade for me and I won't be paying attention to iPhone keynotes for two to four years, possibly longer.

How can they make the most advanced phone in the world yet not see the advantage of making the most advanced personal computer.

Steve Jobs has proclaimed this the post-pc era, that's why.

People here say that negative commentors are trolls and so many here are negative? Maybe, just maybe, it's because it's true!
I've been an Apple user since the bubblegum-package-sized first iPod Shuffle (neat little player) and this forum has always attracted the deniers and naysayers. I remember vividly how they tried to convince me, that the 64-bitness of the A7 chip wouldn't make any difference unless you have more than 4GB of RAM. Meanwhile some Androids already had NFC, you know "real" innovation. Now Phil Schiller reports that over 90% of contactless payments in the US are made with Apple Pay.

And they never pause and reconsider, am I right in my assumption that the A10 Fusion is a meaningless marketing name? Maybe, just maybe, two low-power cores who use one fifth of the energy are useful for something! Especially when you fuse them with two high-performance cores, who are another 40% faster than last years A9, which can't be beaten by Samsungs newest flagship phone (the one that's not for sale, because it catches fire).
I've watched 2 local news shows and CNN today, and all of them had negative comments about the products today. The general concensus was "no big deal" and that they're keeping what they have.
The general public are idiots, try to speak to some experts in the field. What do CNN reporters know about microchip design? Silly.

Well said. Best to use your stuff until it's done and just make big upgrades like this after five or six years. In the meantime, use that $649-$849 on good times with family and friends.

Agree - I jumped from an iPhone 5 to iPhone 6 Plus a few years ago and it was a nice change for me. I've got no intention to buy a new iPhone for some time yet - it does the job well and thats enough. I also bought mine so I have no carrier lock in and i've escaped the high contract price - new phone cycle, which is something everyone should try and do. Having a 1 month rolling contract is much more empowering with the great deals which appear for SIM only.

So much emphasis on the fact that iOS is the #1 gaming platform and yet OS X has no Vulkan support, Metal lacks important features, game developers are dropping the OS X platform and Macs don't have proper gaming cards...

Unbelievable. All the negativity from little kids on Christmas Day hoping for the present that will change their lives. First, that does not exist. Second, please understand that great innovations and features can only be implemented on rock solid foundations. It needs to just work and it needs to keep on working. All of this year's improvements create the foundation and building blocks for blow-you-away product features. Patience and meanwhile enjoy the best smart phone ever and if you don't think so, by all means, go and buy what you feel is better or at least best for you. And yes, get a life. No 'present' or new toy is going to change you or your life...

Have to disagree there - I think you could argue that the iPhone 3G did change people's lives and some of the other early iPhone models did include the type of upgrades that you suggest people are being unrealistic in expecting. And as for the suggestion that this is just paving the way for next year's amazing iPhone, I'm afraid I've been hearing that for the last 3-or-so years. And whether or not there is anything else better on the market isn't really relevant here as long as Apple sell themselves as innovators. Even if people own the best phone currently available, they've still got a right to expect more from the hype Apple generates and prides itself on.

It may be that Apple has set the expectation bar too high - after all you can't revolutionise the mobile phone world every year, but maybe they should stop claiming that's what they're doing and then so many people wouldn't end up disappointed and disillusioned every September.

It's amazing how vast majority of commenters on MacRumors now are so negative towards Apple. Why don't you guys go troll android forums or something?

I'm not saying we should blindly praise Apple, but I mean come on...

Lets face the facts here. We all expect a lot from Apple. In last few years Apple has more or less managed to deliver at least some exciting products. However, currently Apple is offering us bunch of relatively old Mac's, iPhone which essentially was released three years ago and bunch of tablets with a stylus. The lack of innovation is astonishing. This is showing in Apple's market share which is declining (Android is over 80%). All of this creates frustration which leads to overall negativity. Think about it, what if Apple had created something truly innovative like completely modular iPhone or Mac. Reactions would have been bit different then...

I think they're using Helvetica. It's gross. I think the keynote and maybe even the back of the new phones has the generic as hell font.
