The remote control for the slide show is awkward. If they would have used the Apple Watch to control the slide show...

I wish the keynote was 5 minutes. The start was so disjointed and awkward.

Tim was really nervous this year wasn't he? I actually had that 'he's not going to continue with the presentation after about 60 secs.' feeling- very worried for him.
Maybe it was the James Cordon car intro that made him feel
slightly like a film star and Tim just a down to earth 'one of us types' doesn't do flash and glamour.
Thankfully his professionalism took over and he recovered.
I love Tim and as a hetrosexual male admire him for everything he stands for.
May he be apples leader for many many years, he is a great guy and business man I would love to meet him one day it would be a proud moment for me.

If this is all I had after a year at Apple, I would sell tens of millions of stock as well.

I need the headphone jack every day. I need a water proof iPhone......Never, because I am not an idiot with my tech. I have had an iPhone for almost ten years and have NEVER felt the need to have a waterproof phone. Headphones though.....
Bigger camera is good but expected, as with speed. Its hardly even worth a mention at this point.

Wireless headphones? Just leave it to the accessory market.

The apple watch seems to be where it should have been when it launched a year ago. Water proof watch makes sense, GPS should be a given and the speed is much needed. But what new sensors does it have? ITs a glorified pedometer, otherwise. Very underwhelming.

One new late to the party feature for iWork? Stop the press.

Nintendo, showing an app on the iPhone. A dying company releasing an app on a stagnant platform. With no Mac news.

So, in short. The only thing stopping me from going back to windows is mac security, which seems to be becoming more compromised day by day. Mac hardware is underpowered, has no thought for hte power user any more. Making the switch again seems like a real possibility.

Yes, I just bought Windows 10 laptop, more power than any of the MacBook Pros, less than half the price. Bought it because there is SW that I need to run on Windows and available MacBooks are just so outdated.

The iPhone 7 has everything, but Virtual Reality capabilities, does it even play back 360 video, Safari sure does not.

Maybe I need to continue to use the iPhone 4 for an other year, it feels good in hand and fits nicely in pocket.

...

I guess manufacturer will make a case with battery with a working 3.5mm jack connection

Like phones that catch on fire to keep you warm! Now that is a hot item.

And

Oh no! Apple lost your business? How much did you spend on Apple products each year on average? Nothing? Let's see, $4 billion - nothing....I think that they can cover that loss.

What you don't understand is long time customers such as myself who have spent thousands on their products are losing faith, and many are feeling the same. Even those who are saying they are going to purchase this iphone 7 admit it's not the strongest release ever.

And you can try and belittle me if you want, but I don't know how many laptops you have boughten as gifts. I remember buying a family member one of those white macbooks in 2006, telling them they will never look back at windows. Not sure I would do the same now.

And to be honest, I think most people's expectations were managed by the rumors are they are quite accurate ahead of the launch. If all these leaks hadn't come out, most people would have been like. WTF!

Anyways, Apple is losing market share in computers and the mobile market. Their laptops are stale, low end smart wearables are taking a lead over Apple's smart watch, and android is killing iOS in Market share. And, Apple isn't on the radar for VR, which really seems like an exciting area to be. Microsoft had it's best year before it crashed under Ballmer. All you have to do is look a the products. If the products are week, you know where the company is going. Tim is Apple's Ballmer

I have today in my wrist a Garmin sports watch doing exactly what I need. Fore sure is not the prettiest thing in the world but it does the job and it does it well. This was not happening before, Apple was the only one making true useful devices and now is not the case. I had GPS in my watch before the apple watch and I did not wait for it.
Then I was checking the news in my now "obsolete" iPhone 6 and it is still amazing! I can even connect two headphones!
Apple new products Keynotes were amazing and they are not anymore. Same speech every time "fastest, best camera ever, brighter screen and same price" Where is the innovation?
At the end my big disappointment is not having new macbooks.

Lots of negativity in this thread.
Do I stand alone in being impressed with the innovations and upgrades within the Apple watch and iPhone?

Nothing to scream from the rooftops, yet pleasant refinements and improvements to both products overall.

I think because it's becoming increasingly apparent that Apple's product designs are putting the focus on creating a product whose primary purpose is to upsell other products. Also, there are obvious upgrades that have been around for a while that could be added, but are being doled out incrementally.

They are also copying MisFit's strategy of making products that will get lost often and will need to be replaced constantly.

That's my take, anyway.

Hi
I was shocked two months ago when I heard about apple dropping 3.5mm I use my iPhone a lot in my car and with wired headphone (Koss Porta Pro).
However I knew they'd be a free adapter shame its not a "Y" adapter so we can charge too but I'm not going to totally jump ship due to it.
I actually now think its a great move the 3.5 removal.
I remember being in the apple store Liverpool a few years back - within 15 mins there was "water ingress" returns problems two or three times and that is a big problem as its not covered by apples guarantee.
In the UK we dont have many swiming pools but its easy to get these things wet.
I dropped my iPhone 6 in a forest overnight and thankfully it didn't rain and with find iPhone and apple watch I located it when the sun rose the next day. Praise the Lord.
I think is you are a heavy user with a wired headphone or in car 3.5 you'll have to 'bite the bullet' and get a "Y" adapter when they are released - hopefully ASAP - apple are you listening! and not a silly price maybe £14.99 tops. MFI £9.99
I have too had iPhone for nine years and am excited about the future and the direction they are going.
The camera is to die for and hopefully 2017 will have the 7 plus as the standard and better.

Apple watch should not IMHO habe been launched yesterday but for swimmers its great and GPS welcome - just a cloned sim for '3' - thats when I'll consider upgrading.
But by all accounts I'll have a new watch on the 13th watchOS 3 - look foward to it.
iWorks looks good if you are in that type of industry - we are not - yet - maybe one day in our next venture.
Nintendo I went to to the loo as I have zero interest - fair play to the president though giving his speach in English at first and making an effort.
My advice is get a silly price new android 2nd phone unlocked and realise the apple ecosystem is for life.
I'm skipping the '7' I hope it sells well (no I dont own one apple stock share) but really
look foward to 'iPhone 10' in June 2017. yes Psion skipped psion '4' (fairplay '4' is unlucky in China) but apple can skip 8 and 9.
cheers

iAdmit it was a "good" keynote although I will likely not be buying anything announced. Need my rMBP...
Did I miss the sierra announcement?, because I already see something about Sierra in the Mac section of the apple website. Or was it there before too?

I don't quite understand how did they shoot the pictures shown during the presentation, apart from the Depth of Field effect which of course is a new feature. These were mostly 16:9 pictures whereas current camera app shoots in 4:3, AFAIK there is no simple way to shoot in 16:9...

I was 30 minutes late to the keynote, which turned out to be fine since Tim just babbled for the first 30 minutes!

Uh, that's how pretty much every keynote is. Apple always spends a bunch of time in the beginning crowing some marketing bullet points like iPhone market share, or number of apps on the App Store, or how quickly the new version of OSX was adopted verses the slow uptake of the newest Windows version.

Hahahaha. So true. And the Apple fan boys will call, this is revolutionary because now it's fusion. Some how it can also predict your future too.

As someone else pointed out, it's probably called Fusion because it has two types of cores, high and low performance. Is this revolutionary? I don't know enough about chips to say, but it seems like a pretty cool feature to me.

You're not alone. I thought the Watch update was boring and predictable (but I'm not a Watch fan in the first place), but I found the iPhone upgrades impressive, especially the 7 Plus camera. These product updates are all about refinement, not major leaps, and Apple sold that idea hard. For the most part I thought it worked, although the keynote itself was really awful. At least we didn't have to endure Eddie Cue bumbling around the stage.

The new iPhone is a compelling piece of hardware and the design refinements are very nice. I couldn't care less about the stupid headphone jack, just as I didn't care when Apple went from 5.25" to 3.5" floppies, or ditched the optical drive, or... Technology marches on. I don't know why some people are complaining. The A10 Fusion performance increases are impressive. The new iPhone camera is awesome. AirPods and Apple's custom Bluetooth implementation are slick. Collaboration is a welcome, if overdue, addition to iWork. Overall, I was impressed.

Excellent keynote and I'm happy with all the announcements. Can't wait to order the AirPods!

I feel great about this iPhone launch. They've deviated from the traditional two year cycle with their primary breadwinning product. They're jeopardizing revenues, the stock value, putting customer loyalty at risk, and have opened themselves up to a lot of internet rage. BUT that probably means that they have a very good reason for doing so, and lends credence to an assumption that a drastically new iPhone for 2017 is in the works. IF that's the case, that means they're sticking to some very core Apple values which include: Not making changes to the iPhone for the sake of change, not placating to investors (or customers), and not releasing any major new products prematurely.

Next year's 10th anniversary iPhone will be three years in the making. Rumors suggest an amoled bezel-less display. Clearly they haven't slowed down on internal advancements with chip speed, efficiency, and camera quality. And today we saw a couple interesting things: no more physical home button, AND a new ceramic material that is 4 times harder than stainless steel (and presumably radio transparent?). So we can pretty confidently assume there will be no iPhone 7s, and I'm stoked about that. For the first time in a long time I have high hopes for the next iphone, and renewed faith that Apple's core values are intact.

Also- I'm happy to learn today that Apple has known all along that black iPhones sell better. And I couldn't care less about what sort of connector the headphones use.

I think you're being rather harsh. Apple showed off some cool tech today. The new A10 chip is impressive. AirPods and the custom Bluetooth hardware is quite slick. The expectation that Apple is supposed to WOW us every single year is absurd. I've been buying Apple products for 35 years. Most of those years saw Apple release very nice updates to existing products. A few of those years saw Apple WOW us. Be realistic.

Laptops are sure to be updated soon and just because Apple hasn't released a VR product, that doesn't mean they aren't working on something. Since when is Apple first to market? They will sit back and see what works, see what doesn't, as they design and refine their product.

No, the headphone jack would have been gotten rid of 2 yrs ago.

ironic people still talking about the lack of a headphone jack, but even andriod is riding this train.

How many new phones, excluding the iphone already have removed the headphone jack?

do some research, there are already 2 companies flagship phones without it, and leaks from many others are following already, in fact it looks like samsung is the ONLY company who is not interested in joining the club by 2017.

Moto Z and the Z force? no headphone jack
china's 3 biggest new smartphones? no headphone jacks(may not mean much here, but when one of the biggest native companies in one of the biggest markets makes a move, many if not all of the smaller fish in that pond will follow)

rumored Leaks of HTC/LG Also not having a head phone jack in their new releases that are going to drop soon, on top of a recent(and probably bogus) leak that the next nexus phones will possibly remove it as well.

the fact is, people are pointing the finger at Apple for this crazy act of removing it when, NEWS FLASH, Android devices ALREADY removed it.

Just for a laugh, and it will be a laugh, please explain what would be required, in similar detail for an A in each category. I shall save it and call it delusion.html

Basically, for something to be an 'A' is it has to be borderline revolutionary. Apple still has the best hardware/software combo but they're not all that revolutionary on the Hardware front. That's what made the original iPhone so exciting "holy cow you can browse the web in a full-legit browser on your phone!". If Apple hit an 'A' in any of these starred categories below I would get the new phone.

*Processor: minimum 25-30% battery increase. Speed is a tad overrated. My 6+ runs fantastic. Pushing speed while reducing battery usage (or in this case preventing it from being as high as it could be) is a big negative in my book. I remember getting 5-7 days of my old-school Nokias. Granted phones are extremely powerful today but I didn't charge my phone for a week and now I dread if I'm below 50% at noon. I don't play games so that may skew my ratings.

Speakers: HD quality speakers. Tech ain't there yet but to get an 'A' means you've got to do something borderline revolutionary. Stereo speakers on a phone is old news.

Home Button: Moot - Apple trying to pass this off as an 'Upgrade' is silly

*Water Resistance: Almost there but if it was 50m resistant (like new Apple Watch) then I'd give an A. That would be revolutionary. (Did give this an A- as this is an awesome upgrade)

*EarPods/Headphone Jack: How about standard wireless earphones (included with phone) and last a whole day on a single charge? 5 hours isn't bad but it's nothing to write home about.

*Camera: A non-protruding camera. The 7+ is great, except it protrudes...

Colors: Gold and Rose?

*Screen: One that doesn't break. One that I can use in full daylight and not have to put my hand over the screen just to barely see what its displaying. The screens are great as it is for color and brightness, but that is a minor upgrade in my book. If it can dramatically improve battery life, I'm in.

*Storage: If you're going to offer 4K recording, you should have a whole lot of space to save on your phone. A meager 32 GB for a phone that can shoot in 4K is laughable. The storage is actually good, but given the quality the camera can shoot, you should have sufficient storage.

Design: The design of the 6 & 7 series iPhone is the best except for the protruding camera. You could increase battery size between 10-15% and not add much size or weight by extending the width to match the camera depth. Apple's obsession with the thinnest phone is strange to me. I like a light phone, but since the 5, the phones have been plenty thin.

I was kind of hoping Samsung Gear 360 type camera and full support for 360 video at least.... 2017... maybe.

the iPhone 7 has about 60 times more processing power than iPhone 4, so what?

Yes, iPhone 4 is starting to be a bit underpowered, but love the form factor and how it feels in hand. I totally do not understand why thin and light phone is the main design criteria.

I mean light is good, but much rather would have couple of mm thicker phone than iPhone 7 for a bit more battery life and camera at the same level with the back cover. Would probably feel better in hand too.

For email, music and navigation iPhone 4 is still pretty ok, all I need from a phone until VR is available, but still a bit tempted to get the iPhone 7, must test how it feels in hand/pocket.

Well, Apple is selling covers, to protect the camera and make it better fit the hand :)

...

It's bedtime but I might come back to this incredible landmark to stupidity if i even remember it tomorrow. In the meantime maybe you can explain to the nice folks what you mean by the following: -

Speakers: HD Quality Speakers
. Can you say what you mean by "HD quality speakers", or say why you think an unreleased phone's might not match up?

Screen: One that doesn't break: Imagine I posted a picture of people pointing and laughing. pointingandlaughing.jpg, if you will

What a boring presentation and what new stuff are they bringing, nothing. Same product but just a little improve hardware. And that stylus joke. Oh it's not a stylus, it's an Apple Pencil. You can call stylus anyhow you want, pencil, pointer, stick, straw, or even a pen but at the end, it's still a stylus.

Unbelievable. All the negativity from little kids on Christmas Day hoping for the present that will change their lives. First, that does not exist. Second, please understand that great innovations and features can only be implemented on rock solid foundations. It needs to just work and it needs to keep on working. All of this year's improvements create the foundation and building blocks for blow-you-away product features. Patience and meanwhile enjoy the best smart phone ever and if you don't think so, by all means, go and buy what you feel is better or at least best for you. And yes, get a life. No 'present' or new toy is going to change you or your life...

Can someone explain the different water resistances between the new Apple Watch and the new iPhone? One is certified, the other one isn't.
