Jep, Steve is speaking about me an many who still want to work with PC. I do not want to surf on internet on a small screen, I like to type with proper keyboard and there is many applications I run, like FCP X for video editing, big screens are needed and calculating power.

I have been using Mac for last 7 years or so, and it has been great, they work and are well tought of products, but today they do not provide the calculation power and the memory pricing is totally ridiculous, I mean, the base price of them is reasonable, but when you add the HD space and actual memory (that can not be extended later on)...

I just bought a Windows 10 PC, I am not happy, but what can I do, Apple is not providing what I need, I need a work horse, or a truck like Steve makes the analogy on the video below.

...

Steve Jobs has proclaimed this the post-pc era, that's why.

It will be a leap. Large screen, fingerprint sensor, a lot snappier, water resistant, much better camera, battery that lasts 2-3 times longer etc.

"Snappier". Are people STILL using that adjective? Hang on. You nearly had me there.it was when you started quoting S7 specs I then realised you were joking. Good. Irony is still alive and well in 2016. Whew! :D

iPhone 7 Graded based purely on what Apple told us today:

A10 Processor: B-
2x faster than a 2 year old process is progress but the main thing here is battery life. 1-2 more hours is nothing to write home about. (minus 1/3 for the silly 'fusion' name - more marketing gimmicks from Apple). Leave my speed the same and give me battery life.

Stereo Speakers: B
A bonus of removing the headphone jack. Probably won't blow anyone away but still use my iPhone speakers quite a bit so this is a welcome upgrade.

Flush Force-Touch Home Button: C
I'm sure this is to eliminate issues due to the home button which is a good thing, but this seems like a transition fix until they come up with a better solution. Not innovation, just saving trouble/fixes/less moving parts on their end and passing it off as innovation.

IP67 Water Resistance: A-
This is probably the most important and least sexy update. I'm sure the water resistance is better than what's advertised (reports on Apple Watch with same rating have good results). Implementing protective features for a $800-$900 phone is always a great idea. Only thing better would be if they made it water-rating of 8.

Lighting EarPods/Removing Headphone Jack: B
The jury is out until this is seen how it plays out over the long term. Removing the headphone jack to allow for other upgrades (camera/stereo speakers/etc.) is a smart trade off in the long run. Sure customers are going to be upset but 50% of people use the headphones that come standard and this will force the industry to come up with a new alternative. The only reason I stayed at a 'B' is because the lighting port hasn't been the most durable port. The long term improvements by adding that space should be interesting.

12MP Camera: (7 — B) (7+ — A-)
The 7 upgrade is good but not a wow-factor. 7+ upgrade with dual camera is solid. The camera is always the place to improve and Apple continues to do a good job here. Updated flash is good. Glad to see the FaceTime camera updated too.

Colors: C+
The Jet Black is intriguing but most people put their phones in cases so having a fancy-shiny phone that gets covered up is not that interesting. I imagine people who get the Jet Black will not get a case and then have buyers remorse in 6 months after there are heaps of scratches. Apple's color scheme continues to bore. The only reason this isn't a 'D' is going to a darker black on the Matte was a good decision.

Retina HD Screen: D+
Improved brightness is always nice but there are other issues more important (glare, more durable or even non-breaking screen).

Storage: B+
128GB mid-tier and 256GB high-end is good. I wasn't expecting this update to storage yet, though with 4K filming it would fill up very quick. Now the question has to be - how is it that they only charge $100 more for the upgrade from 128GB to 256GB on the iPhone but on the MacBook Pros they charge $200 more?

Design: C
They smoothed the protruding camera some so that's nice. But to have a protruding camera because you're making it marginally lighter and thinner and skimp on battery life is a seriously inept decision. I'd take the larger, heavier phone (speaking of fractions of an inch and grams) and get 15-25% more battery life than a phone that doesn't lay flat when I put it down.
------

Overall Grade: B-

Nothing about this phone makes me want to go drop $900 on Friday. Some nice changes (Water Resistance is great, Camera is good) but until there is a major update (e.g., like 3G to LTE or the bigger phones from 5s to 6) then I'll probably just get a 6S, save a few hundred dollars and wait to see what they do with the 2017 iPhone.

The EarPods don't look comfortable and they should be included with the plus. I was really hoping for Two things Apple Pencil support for iPhone and the blue color that was rumored.

removing that 64gb option is another artificial way of convincing consumers to spend that $100 to buy higher model. same thing repeated.

No it isn't and you don't know what you're talking about.

The move to remove 64gb makes sense and the logic is simple:

1. As a user, you either care about having lots of storage space or you don't. If you don't care about lots of storage space, 32gb is more than enough for you. If you do care because you have lots of photos, videos, music, large games, whatever, then 128gb and 256gb make more sense than 64gb anyway. It totally makes sense to remove the middle option because it's neither the best solution for the user who doesn't need the storage, nor is it the best solution for the user who does need it. The reason why they removed 64gb is because people bought it the least.

2. Fewer storage options (and fewer model options in general) reduce complexity and therefore reduce cost. So of course as a company you want to offer as much choice to the user as makes sense while offering as little choice as necessary to keep complexity low.

What a nightmare!

If Steve Jobs was still alive we would still have a headphone jack.

You don't know what you're talking about. If Steve Jobs was still alive he'd have removed the headphone jack sooner.

Steve Jobs removed the CD drive from the MacBook Air when everybody said it was a mistake because you need a CD drive. It turns out nobody needs a CD drive.

Nobody needs a headphone jack either. It's an outdated and attrition-prone connector that only wastes space.

Tim was really nervous this year wasn't he? I actually had that 'he's not going to continue with the presentation after about 60 secs.' feeling- very worried for him.
Maybe it was the James Cordon car intro that made him feel
slightly like a film star and Tim just a down to earth 'one of us types' doesn't do flash and glamour.
Thankfully his professionalism took over and he recovered.
I love Tim and as a hetrosexual male admire him for everything he stands for.
May he be apples leader for many many years, he is a great guy and business man I would love to meet him one day it would be a proud moment for me.

It seemed like a few times he made a quick joke and paused for a response and didn't get anything, I feel like that made him self conscious.

I disagree. It was a good event.

The watch reveal and phone reveal was amazing, the start didn't feel very smooth.

I liked the updates, the camera was a surprise to me. Sounds like a huge upgrade and I'm looking forward to see comparison pics of Galaxy S7, iPhone 6s,... I will skip this year since I ran out of budget and my 6s still feels great but my wife will be more than happy since she's coming from the 5s. And the 5s camera sucks even compared to the 6s camera. A funny thing was how they announced the collaboration features of iWork like it was a really magic thing, but Office 365 is doing it for a long while already. I never liked iWork and I'm glad Microsoft is releasing good programmed iOS and macOS software meanwhile.
But overall, for me it was a exciting event. Now really looking forward to new Macs hopefully next month.

How can they make the most advanced phone in the world yet not see the advantage of making the most advanced personal computer.
That's the 64 million dollars question. It's even more intriguing when you think that computers (and not phones) is what made Apple successful in the first place.

SHAME on APPLE; Innovations? I have been a die hard apple user from the earliest devices. The last few years Apple OS and standard apps are bug ridden and fail the apple community. Innovations? what a joke; today's presentations was embarrassing...been rehearsed. Real-time collaboration AWESOME; What a joke of a demo. This has been available for 10 years as an industry collaboration standard. It took a few years by Apple even to sync iBooks with non-iTunes books e.g. PDFs. Much less Apple Continuity (Sync across all devices; laden with bugs and data corruption) Apple is so full of BS. They backed up the bus on old technology and tried to put lipstick on its lack of innovation. For those of you BLOWN away by hardware specs; if there isn't a software value provided then what does it matter. The Apple Apps and OS's are static for over 6+ years. I have to admit; I am pursuing moving back to Microsoft hardware and software; the past years they are blowing Apple away....Tim is focused on politics and his sexuality (who gives a S%^) and not running an innovative company. And the absolute joke of entertainers and closing artist. Shame on all the apple leadership! Tim has to go and all the old diehards collecting a massive check for no reason!
There is a ton of negative statements being made on multiple threads. I picked yours to respond because it covers most of what others are saying.

As a public beta tester, I have to disagree with your assessment of the OS. I find that the integration with the hardware and across the products to be significantly ahead of both google and Microsoft. Sure there are glitches, but in my experience it is more stable and predictable than what the competition is offering. I do agree that their iWorks software is not sufficiently competitive. Pages is useless for serious writers that need table of contents and footer notes, as an example. And numbers still lacks pivot tables. Keynote however is better than PowerPoint. Mail and iMessage are stable and "good enough". But the total integration of iMessage, Mail, phone, calendar, maps, and reminders into everything to me is significant. Again not just within iOS but also across OSes to macOS.

I am happy the stayed with the overall form factor. I love my 6s and do not see any reason to change the shape. Focusing on the internals and delivering amazing performance seems like the right thing to do. I was hoping to see the bezels get reduced to provide more real estate within the same form factor. Otherwise, they delivered on my expectations. I think that Apple is moving caustiously, maybe too much, but they are showing that they are moving towards eliminating the home button and possible all buttons over time. Would not be surprised to see them eliminate all ports as well. Wireless airpods and wireless charging.

In summary, I think the hardware is awesome, but clearly in transition. The OS is solid and probably more so than anything else out there. Their apps lack some features, but the integration across platforms compensates to a point. Services is still the laggard in their lineup and I blame Eddie.

I think they're using Helvetica. It's gross. I think the keynote and maybe even the back of the new phones has the generic as hell font.
It's not Helvetica, pretty sure it's their own San Francisco font. It's not awful, it's not brilliant, but maybe a lighter weight would have looked better on the back of the phones.

Thanks MacRumors for a solid 5 min review, well done. Was about as exciting as GAP's fall line up of T-Shirts and Jeans. Nothing innovative at all, they cannot even keep up with other manufacturers (example: fast charging), and USB-C connector, AMOLED display, and no 3.5 jack? I am supposed to use an adapter while working out in the gym? How is my 6plus supposed to stay in my pocket? How long before that adapter starts to fray? That had to be the cheapest thing I have seen them do, how much money could they have saved by doing that? I live and travel internationally, the iPhone is great for someone who just commutes to work in the USA. Most people buy Samsung's or the like because they have more international friendly features like dual SIM, default google maps which is better internationally than Apple Maps, and better language support to name a few. I'm going to stick with my iPhone 6 plus for now, and probably get the Note 7 when they launch it here in Thailand. I'm already moved a majority of my work load at the office from my iMac to my PC because of features and stability issues, now it looks like I will need to learn to use Android. I won't sell my shares in Apple..because all their new customers have no idea what is really going on and will keep on buying.
[doublepost=1473332942][/doublepost]I also agree on the lighting port. With the old 30 pin adapter i personally never had any issues with it. With my iPhone 6 after a years use the whole thing had to be replaced as the lighting port was "opening up", which meant the lighting cable couldn't fit the port therefore charge the phone. So there is a weakness in it. Now we have to rely on the same port to deal with headphone use as well as charging, so it going to get more use per day.

Is it just me that is getting bored of hearing the same phrases over and over and over. "the best phone we ever built" the best watch we ever build" "the most powerful operating system".....We get it! No company tries to build a worse phone than the previous model! Its pretty obvious. And, tbh Im starting to get a bit bored of Ives smooth british accent talking large words about every metal and finish. Its not informative anyway, its simply just mumbo jump about the build process, you learn nothing except yes the device is looking good and we charge you for it.

Corrected version:

[1] similar looking iPhones with no jack
[2] identical looking iWatch with performance that the first gen iWatch should've had
(the rest is okay)
Add [6] New Air "Q-tip" Pods

You seem to be one of those naive people who accept only things as new and innovative if they look different on the outside. Who cares whether the new iPhone or Watch look similar to the last version dude? Is a new look what defines progress in your eyes? I can only shake my head.

It's really more than a stylus. Stylus is a dumb passive stick, when Apple Pencil is filled with electronics and allow for pressure sensitive drawing, maybe the best on the market.

I'd say the Surface Pro 4/Surface Book Pen is the best, not that poxy pencil thing

Lots of negativity in this thread.
Do I stand alone in being impressed with the innovations and upgrades within the Apple watch and iPhone?

Nothing to scream from the rooftops, yet pleasant refinements and improvements to both products overall.

I agree. They didn't change the entire phone. But what they did do was enough to be happy with. Why do people feel when Apple releases a new phone it must look completely different. Updates are not enough?

Apple have over 500,000 employed - why they can't even create damn amazing product something groundbreaking? surely they have the best people in the world? where is passion, motivation, innovation - most of it gone downhill...

Now i can understand why Steve jobs is very aggressive person - because he want something amazing products that no body ever though about it, basically he want to pushes boundaries unlike Tim Cook who is really focus on growing number.

Incremental hardware update is very bad for the environment especially china's pollution. - e.g. 5 > 5s > 5se > 6 > 6s.

I wish the keynote was 5 minutes. The start was so disjointed and awkward.
I get worried when Tim Cook is the most relaxed on the stage. He always seems forced, but I do think it's just how it comes across. The 'Sweet Home Alabama' part was pretty good.

Everyone, here is the script:
Say your lines (don't worry if it's the first time you've seen them... Only 200,000,000 people will be watching and re-watching this, and whatever you do will live forever! Don't be nervous!), say 'thank you, goodbye' and then disappear.

Looking forward to getting mine even if others aren't. Better camera is key for me

This will still sell millions and millions So until people stop buying it Apple has no reason to worry

- I wanna see more of Time Cook singing.

- Can't wait for super Mario run... I am not gonna be "notified" currently on the App Store, I'd rather wait till officially released.
- water resistance is always good,
- Camera duel lens looks good.. smaller focal rage is getting better and better. :D
- A10= good
