Do you guys think these second/third entries of MacBook Pro 4,1 on the battery logger are legit? Don't you think if it was accidentally leaked from Cupertino the first time, then they would make sure it didn't happen again?

Patiently waiting

Holy smoke! You even beat my poorest friends! May I ask what it is, exactly, that you're waiting for? Jesus' second coming???

I am still using my G3 PowerBook (500MHz Pismo) for work and play. I do not have another laptop but I do have a 500MHz Cube. They both rock. The Pismo screen folds 180 degrees, which is a nice feature absent on newer Apple laptops. My Pismo has been great (funking indomitable actually) for seven years, but I am ready for a modern system.

Video ram has been the Achilles heel of my Pismo. With 8mb of VRAM, even regular size YouTube videos are too much. I must select the "make it smaller" button to view them.

Longevity is why I will be looking for as much VRAM as possible in a new MBP.

An illuminated keyboard will be cool as hay, too.

YouTube videos (or any other flash videos) dont stress the video card. Your performance issues are due to the combination of slow CPU and bad Flash optimization in OS X.

I decided to transfer back to Mac at the beginning of the new year, so I got rid of my PC Tower and I'm now down to my laptop from work.

It's pretty nice, but I can't wait for the update, as I'm sure you can't either :)

I'm still not decided on the model - should I choose the 15'4 base model and upgrade to 4 Gb of ram, or should I go for the 17' with HD display?
I'll be using it for editing parts of a professional tv program (My workplace), and to record music in Logic.

Well, I'll be go to hell! Thanks for the knowledge, eXan; I didn't know that.

An additional note of hope, I look forward to the efficiencies of solid state drives and hope the new MacBook Pro is internal SSD ready. W00t!

I'm hoping the new MBP does not have the same trackpad as the MBA. I used one at the Apple Store yesterday, and I actually found the touchpad to be too big and the button to be too small. Is there any chance Apple would put a different trackpad in the new MBP (if they are going to replace it) than on the MBA?

At the risk of rocking the Apple cart here...

I think Apple should do a re-design of the MacBook Pro line. Considering the rate at which component price drops occur, and the amount of time Apple obtains a maximum profit margin on their products, they can well-afford to redesign and re-engineer it with some extra stuff.

I'm all for keeping the on-board iSight camera, but Apple needs to get off their high-horse and put a *real* two-button touch pad in there, along with a tastefully-engineered media reader (why is this such a big deal with Apple anyhow?) and go with a higher-capacity battery, as it seems they might based on prior comments here.

I noticed this on a laptop at college the other day; why would you need it at 180 degrees?

I don't know about 180, but say 150-160 degrees would be swell while lying on a couch, back propped up and your legs bent while one is somewhat crossing the other (keyboard almost vertical).

It sounds like an idiotic way, but the reality is, that they keyboard (not the touch pad) is almost in the same position as it would be on a table in relation to your arms, but because your back is propped up, the screen would be better if it could go further back (than my MBP).

Am I the only one who tends to move about, using as many different positions as possible while "doing stuff"?

Missionary? Doggy? Side-doggy? Reverse cowgirl?

If you use the video conferencing feature of Leopard, you will appreciate the new MacBook Air iSight in an upcoming MacBook Pro revision. Nobody has said much about it, I guess because there are so few MBA's in the wild as of yet. I was lucky enough to grab one yesterday before they ran out at the NYC SoHo Apple store. I used the video chat feature this morning. It was strikingly better than the iSight camera mounted on top of my 30" Apple Cinema Display. This would seem to be a no brainer for the new MBP.

...and of course if you're going to experiment using some of the various positions mentioned in the previous posts (above), you want to have a top notch video camera on hand.

A lot of people don't want that much or anywhere near it. On a flight it keeps things private from the person(s) in the seat next to you for example.

we are talking about the ability of the hinges to go back so the screen is flat with the keyboard... not the horizontal viewing range of an lcd

I think people blow this out of proportion.

Of course the macbook pros will be updated..what you guys think apple will stop updating it?

I mean seriously people act like if an update will never happen.
They have been updating their laptops for 20+ years with new hardware
i dont think all of a sudden it will stop.

I understand the "wondering when" since apple does not let us know anything
but come on already just dea with it until it gets released..why torment yourself till then? we have no control over anything apple.

we also don't have anything better to do... *shrug*

Why do you need a media reader? if it is a camera, then it'll appear and accessible through the device; if it is any other device, same story - why do you need it? its more frivilous crap that is unneeded and unwarranted.

I'd go with the 17'' since you're doing professional video work. Although, if you have a desk or a table to work on, a 15'' with a 23'' or 30'' Cinema HD screen might be nice to hook the MBP up to. What's your budget? (if you don't mind me asking)

Very simple. If I'm on vacation and I've been shooting all day, the last thing I want is to have to lug my camera around as a sort of super-expensive media reader.

When I had my PowerBook, I got a fair amount of use from my Sony MS/MS-Pro reading PC/MCIA card. It worked far better than using either of the cameras, particularly in the case of my DSC-F707, which was only a USB 1.1 device, and thus making the process of data transfer far slower than on the PC/MCIA card I had, or either an external USB 2 media reader I could have used or an internal media reader (also connected to the USB 2 bus) which Apple could include.

I totally agree – although not with cameras (I only have a D-Lux 3). But when it comes to "media browsing" my audio recorders aren't exactly the best, nor do I have any intention of dragging them around if not needed. Those are tools, and I prefer to keep my tools safe, when not in use.
Of course, one could make a point about a computer [or a dedicated media reader/PDA etc.] being a tool too, but the thing is, in a pinch I can edit audio with a USB-stick/card reader connected to a computer on an internet café. But without the equipment to gather the audio I'm lost.
