Well, they may be able to clock the 8600 up some more. But really, I want to see a 256mb standard and 512 upgrade for the graphics ram. :D

Overclock it? Apple? Not likely.

Besides if it could be clocked faster I would assume Apple would have done it already.

the newest laptop won't necessarily be the most durable or longest lasting.

yes, if you delay buying an equivalent laptop by a year it might finally die a year later than one bought a year earlier, but a MBP update isn't going to mean it suddenly becomes less likely to die within 4 years or purchase (or however long these things soldier on for).

if anything, it seems the newer products seem to have a shorter life. I've been through 3 televisions in 5 years - my parents only recently ditched a TV the same age as me (that'd be almost 30 years old!)

And that is where Apple products have a reputation for lasting where others fail. I have put a pismo and a 2001 ibook through hell and they still go strong.

this "just" you speak of is nearing a year old update (in June).

I don't deny that they are fast as is.. but I don't want to be one of those guys complaining about how they updated the MBP 2 days after I bought the existing one. The update is imminent and it's not smart to buy one now as is.

On the other hand I need one now, so you can see my concern for why they continue to come out with products other than an updated MBP.

I'm in the same boat you are, mate. In fact, I ordered a custom-built unit from a local reseller that I like a lot for customer service... and was already having buyer's remorse.

But (luckily?) my unit was damaged during shipping. So I'm going to give it a week.

But I am not best pleased with Apple now. For Heaven's sake... just tell us something so that we can make an intelligent decision. It's called customer service.

A mockup that Engadget picked up. Not too shabby

Wow, looks incredible. This is a photoshopped version, correct? It looks very authentic.. Could it be an impression of what it actually looks like? Or, is it totally out to lunch in terms of what the new MBP truly looks like.

I hope the real version has letters on the keyboard. And you probably couldn't fit a CD or DVD into that slot. And what's with the latch button in the middle if it uses the magnetic close?

I would be very happy with this! aside from the disproportional details... but I don't believe there will be such a significant redesign at this time and I don't believe it will have such a strong resemblance to the MBA. I believe apple will want to differentiate the MBA and MBP significantly.

oh and a link to original article at SPiCU

Engadget Mockup Contest

I trust that folks realize that the mockup posted is just a contest that Engadget is running. For you creative types, now is your chance to build your MBP - with a centered keyboard, preferrably not black, proportional DVD, with/out Ethernet, firewire, USB and magnetic power adapter. Granted it probably will not make much difference at this stage ;) Enjoy!

What is SSE4?

1) I'm guessing 10.5.2 is optimised to run the new Penryn routines - particularly SSE4 - to deliver a significant performance boost (up to 40% plus, with SSE4 optimisation - 14% without) .

Can someone explain what is this feature? And how we may take advantage of it?

Thanks

I might go for this one. I'll make it without that gross black keyboard. The mockup that was posted looks way to much like the macbook air, which I hate. And there's no way you could fit an MBP in that small of a machine. It would be nice though.

More on topic to the original news post does anyone know if the battery logger site has logged any changes lately?
