I think I'm going for a silver m2 air, but i'm not sure if i should get a 8+256 or 8+512. I use the laptop for writing my papers, web browsing, watching youtube videos and sometimes playing Euro Truck Simulator 2 in Stream (one or two hours per weekend). I've watched some review videos and seems like there is an issue with the SSD, and 512GB is a better choice. But I live in Madrid, this upgrade will cost me 230 euros. I don't need that much storage, actually i just calculated the storage i've used in my current laptop (a windows laptop from 2020), all the files (mostly PDFs and Docs, some pictures for wallpaper and the ETS2) uses up nearly 40GB (not including a lot files that i don't know what are they nor where they come from), and i've uploaded all of them to my Onedrive.

But will the SSD issue make it a "have to " for me to buy the 512GB version? Can anyone give me some advice? I am quite confused now. Thank you so so much!

Yes, it will matter. No one is going to force you however.

Had my old MBP break from water damage recently, was holding off on replacing it to get the M2 MBA, but now wondering from this thread if 14" MBP is a better option 🤔

Don't use it for anything too resource intensive, just email, research work, and statistical programming... But the ProMotion + 2 monitors support in MBP seem pretty nice.

Any reason to go for the 512mb M2 MBA other than aesthetics and portability? $400, I guess -- could buy an iPad with that 😅

M2 Air will appeal to those who must have the latest design (admittedly a pretty sizable segment of Apple fans) but for everyone else, the M1 Air is the more compelling machine… almost 30% cheaper (after discounts online) for similar performance.

And if you bump up M2 Air to 16/512, you’re looking at only $100 less than the 14” MB Pro after recent online discounts.

I honestly find it hard to justify an M2 Air.
In some real life test M2 is 100% faster than M1, also thanks to very high single core score it is super snappy on basic taste, indeed it record the highest speedometer score

Guys, need help.

Normal user, google docs, few simple video editor (mostly making subtitle). Should I go for M2 Air or just M1 (it's $300 different for base model, right?)

thanks

Given the situation with the Pro I'm gonna wait this one out for reviews, as I'd prefer the 256, but don't want to skimp on speed if that's the situation.

Pro tip:
Get the 512GB model. Come on, it's not a cheap laptop, spend a little more for the right specs.
If it has the same SSD issue as the 13 Pro, you'll get double speed, better performance and double life span.
Otherwise, you'll get double storage which is good anyway. 256 is for single user very light usage only.

The pricing of the MBA is really strange. If you upgrade to 16 GB ram and 512 GB, you are almost looking at the same price of the base model 14 inch MBP with the same specs in Euro. In fact, with education discount, the MBP is actually a few bucks cheaper

hopefully doesn't have slow ssd speeds and thermal throttling like the M2 MBP 😂

Its funny seeing people arguing for notch or touchbar, as for me what really matters is…MagSafe! I didn’t like to charge those other cables. MagSafe felt obvious, then premium and now… irreplaceable! The lack of it degrades my work environment.

One laptop is thin and light while the other one isn’t.

The pro doesn’t throttle. Max Tech doesn’t know the meaning of the word. Give me some seed money and I’ll start a better YouTube channel. The air will likely thermal throttle some, though.

Really? If I end up getting one, the MagSafe cable will be collecting dust. My TB-dock obviously charges through the connecting cable and when out on the go I’d rather bring a generic USB-C cable that can charge multiple things.

You can probably count the number of people who actually want the touchbar on two hands, and all the lot of them post here.

Stay away from the 256 GB model!
Yeah. I definitely wouldn't do the 256GB as a pre-order. It has to be on par with what the M2 13" Pro got. I can just feel it.

I'd go 512GB and above for pre-order as nobody knows what other key specs Apple has silently downgraded on the entry-level configuration.

Maybe the 8GB RAM will also be a vastly inferior type of RAM by comparison to the 16 or 24 configs?

But regardless of configuration, I wouldn't dare to unbox it before the Internet has disassembled it and run it through its paces.

Apple can't be trusted with these new M2 machines, it's cost-cutting madness all around!
