I promise myself to not buy a new Mac until a 15 inch Air(or whatever they call it) comes out, but this is really tempting..I love this new design.

I'm also curious to see if the 256gb model will have the same slow SSD as the base M2 MBP.
Midnight 8/512 for me (though TBH, I've never noticed any speed hiccups on my geriatric 11" MBA--that's only 4/128 I think)
What if you get a single 512 ssd then? 😂😀😀

Man it’s weird seeing people give out about the notch so much.

Don’t they realise the alternative is just a smaller screen or a keyboard mounted camera that looks up your nostrils? Apple made the right choice.

I have an amazing 14" M1 Pro MacBook Pro and yet... I want this!
Haha Ive been torn about getting a 24gb BTO in the new M2 MBA, and read your posts in another thread last week about 16 vs 32gb in a 14” MBP. From your posts I decided I didn’t need more than 16gb.. I now bought a 14” MBP 10 core 1tb 16gb.. it’s so amazing but for some reason I still love the thinness. (Coming from 11” 2015 air). I think my MBP is bored doing what I need (documents and 8gb to parallels).

Now you’re saying you want this! Haha. Cmon Kermit man! You’re a bad influence on me 😂

I'd be tempted to trade in my 14 inch MBP Pro for this since I barely am going to use it anymore now that I have a Studio at my desk but they aren't offering trade-ins for that model yet. I'd prefer something lighter and more portable as my laptop at this point.

No. It's the second best selling Mac laptop because it's the cheapest laptop with Pro in the title. That's all. In the states it also sell in huge volumes to companies, whereas in ROtW its mostly Windows. Most people either hate the touchbar or don't care.

what makes you think you speak for "most people"? besides, if what you said were true, then Apple would've COMPLETELY abandoned the touchbar & not even bothered to keep it in one remaining model of their lineup. the fact that it remains demonstrates that more people use it than you (and other vocal touchbar haters) seem to realize...

also, if somebody wanted the cheapest Mac laptop, they'd get a MBA and not a MBP13. since the M1 MBA & MBP13 were so similar, if someone purposely chose to get a MBP13 then it was for a specific reason, which was most likely the touchbar (or possibly the fan to cool the computer while under heavy load). the "Pro" designation is mostly meaningless since many non-pro users use so-called Pro products & vice versa - it basically just means "more expensive" these days! 😆

A lot of Apple’s pricing seems to be designed to tempt buyers into buying the next upgrade: Base model (A) + upgrade (B) is so close to C that I’ll buy C or even D.

But the pricing now is so silly at €230 for 8GB of RAM and €230 for 256GB of SSD that base model A makes the most sense. That or buy something else from another company. If 'upgrades' are needed for pretty basic performance, it’s a sign the original design is too compromised.

And when you add the 'upgrades' on, you know they will never bring *that* much value for money.

All the upgrades feel like a lose-lose.

I really hope the passive cooling will be buffed over the M1 air because otherwise it is going to be ugly.

Since I do not need the faster speed, and I value a lighter laptop with superior battery life, I wouldn’t opt for the M1 Pro. But, I purchased the M1 Air a year ago. I think the M1 Air on launch was the best purchase anyone could’ve made for quite some time. Definitely superior to buying the M2 Air in a couple of weeks.
I think you missed my entire point because I was saying that the 14” Pro on sale for $1799 makes more sense *to me* than waiting for the $1499 M2 Air—but hey, you do you, boo.

I personally don’t care about the less-than-1lb difference because I don’t have limp noodle arms, and the Pro battery lasts all day for me; if you’re worried about that, you must be out in the woods without access to any outlets for days at a time, right?

For me, the display improvements alone were worth the $300 premium. All the other improvements are just icing on the proverbial cake.

Now, if someone’s budget precludes the 14” Pro at $1799, then sure… by all means, get what you can afford.

Sucks to be your sister.
Hah I am thinking of getting her a m1 on sale honestly..
I am very annoyed with the ssd of the m2. Very.
I was really keen for a new toy, I really like the design.
But getting 512gb is an overkill for what I use it for and once you get 512gb I’d feel stupid to get it with only 8gb of ram. And once I got 16/512…. Why would I get the 8 cores…. Then I might as well get a m1 pro, which I don’t need.

Very bad move by apple. But I think they know exactly that people will bite the bullet and upgrade so more $$.

Like when they were selling iPhones with 64gb and the next step up was 256, a lot of people thought it was worth the $100 extra…

Seems unusual to launch in the middle of summer. Why wouldn’t they announce it at WWDC and just have people wait to order until July?

I really wish they would make a 12” MBA! Although the new MBA is not too far off for size…

If you want a BTO, better order right away!

Let’s hope the base model doesn’t suffer from the slow SSD issue.
I would imagine most MBA users are not going to be too concerned about "slow" SSD. Its all relative. For example, this MBA purchase will be replacing a 2014 MBA (that is still chugging along by the way, albeit at its own leisurly pace). So regardless of any of the specs, this MBA will scream.

I'm getting the Air M2 to replace my 2016 MacBook (for personal use), which is on its last, tired legs. I use a MBP 15" for work and love the Touch Bar, and would've picked up the M2 MBP, but the Air seems like the latest tech, and to be perfectly honest, has better color options.

Precisely. I was going to get the $1499 M2 Air, but Best Buy had the 14" MacBook Pro on sale for $1799. Faster processor, twice the RAM, same 512GB SSD, larger screen, Mini-LED, ProMotion 120Hz, etc... it was a no-brainer.
this is how apple entice you to help them clear their old stocks

The Pro designation carries a lot of weight. Businesses especially Stateside buy them by the truckload and wont go near the Air because they see it as a 'toy'. Why have they kept the same 2016 form factor for six years? I can't answer that one. Maybe because they have a glut of spare parts.

If you want proof that by and large no one likes or wants the touch bar, just look at the fact it's been deleted from literally every other model.
