Got an M1 Air last week and saved myself €550.
M2 is a great machine no doubt, but the price difference in Europe is outrageous.

The pricing of the MBA is really strange. If you upgrade to 16 GB ram and 512 GB, you are almost looking at the same price of the base model 14 inch MBP with the same specs in Euro.
One laptop is thin and light while the other one isn’t.
Since I do not need the faster speed, and I value a lighter laptop with superior battery life, I wouldn’t opt for the M1 Pro. But, I purchased the M1 Air a year ago. I think the M1 Air on launch was the best purchase anyone could’ve made for quite some time. Definitely superior to buying the M2 Air in a couple of weeks.Precisely. I was going to get the $1499 M2 Air, but Best Buy had the 14" MacBook Pro on sale for $1799. Faster processor, twice the RAM, same 512GB SSD, larger screen, Mini-LED, ProMotion 120Hz, etc... it was a no-brainer.
The M2 MBP reaches 108 degrees with a fan, so I wonder what the Air is going to do about heat dissipation. Not only the SSD to worry about here.Stay away from the 256 GB model!
Same in the UK. And in fact ROtW outside of the US (not sure about Canada). I feel ROtW is paying the cost of keeping prices reasonable* in the US while inflation rockets. Once they used to just swap the currency sign, even though that was still short-changing us, now they don't even do that.Got an M1 Air last week and saved myself €550.

Greedy. I have a 2010 MBP and actually need this.Greedy. I have a 2013 MBP and actually need this
With the media engine stuff on the M2 it will be pretty capable, albeit with slower export times, when it comes to media editing too.MBA M2 will be clocked down for sure. It is without a fan so Apple definitely needs to limit clock speed when intensity increases. Makes perfect sense. Whoever needs to do that kind of work should go with MBP 14 anyways. MBA is purely for casual users...media consumption, document editing, surfing!

Its funny seeing people arguing for notch or touchbar, as for me what really matters is…MagSafe! I didn’t like to charge those other cables. MagSafe felt obvious, then premium and now… irreplaceable! The lack of it degrades my work environment.
👍 Agreed, a pro machine will always be a better machine for serious and extended intensive computing needs. But the M2 MBA will likely exceed (or come close) to performance of those pro machines from just a generation (or two) ago.Capable for sure but not the best machine to do those things with passive cooling. it will thermal throttle. But someone who does media editing occasionally, it should be fine. There is a trade off with passive cooling and thinner design.
Good more for me and everyone else.No Touchbar, ugly notch. I’ll pass.
You can probably count the number of people who actually want the touchbar on two hands, and all the lot of them post here.
Why not 16/512?Given the circumstances, it’s wise to choose 16/256 or 8/512. If you choose 8/256, good luck!
OMG this. Back when I was younger (c15 years ago) I would wait until a work trip to the US to buy an Apple laptop, as the Pound Sterling to US dollar ratio made it much cheaper back then. With Pounds to Dollar pricing in the past few years it has been annoying. But now the price in pounds is actually greater than the dollar price, this is maddening and unfair. It makes me want to boycott the company. Our poor European cousins, too, with that price in Euros.Same in the UK. And in fact ROtW outside of the US (not sure about Canada). *by Apple standards.
No. It's the second best selling Mac laptop because it's the cheapest laptop with Pro in the title. That's all. In the states it also sell in huge volumes to companies, whereas in ROtW its mostly Windows. Most people either hate the touchbar or don't care.per Apple's own statement, the MBP13 (which has a touchbar) is the 2nd best selling laptop out there (behind only the MBA) - that kinda implies there's probably more than 10 people out there that actually like the touchbar, even if you don't... 😜
1199$ + sales taxes in the US.Same in the UK. And in fact ROtW outside of the US (not sure about Canada).
No cooking eggs is simply reserved for Intel powered macs and windows laptops. It burns, it burns I tell ya!I bet you can cook some eggs on top of this laptop with all the heat. No fan
Excellent question.I wonder how much M2 will throttle in a fanless design.
Not sure what exchange rate you're looking at but currently £1 is worth US$1.21 so something costing $1199+Tax in the US should be £990 + VAT in the UK. VAT is current 20% so that's £1,188. The actual cost though is £1,249. So that's an extra £61, or about US$74. Not a huge amount of money but as you move up the scale so does the difference.1199$ + sales taxes in the US.
1262$ + VAT in the UK.
Base configuration at the current exchange rate.
Not an outrageous difference in price, I‘d say.
