agreed - magsafe is an omission that I really wish the MBP13 actually had, and wish Apple would've added it back in with the M2 update (can't believe they ever abandoned magsafe in the first place tbh, as it's such an incredibly useful feature to so many people)!

fortunately, you can add magsafe functionality to laptops which don't have it via a simple adapter - just search for "usb c magnetic adapter" and you'll find tons of options for ~$10-25 or so... :)
Yes! But dongles and adapters are annoying when you are dealing with such a key function. At least to me, it doesn’t work, I don’t like it.

$1400 if you want 16gb of ram lol…no sorry

You can get a MBP 14 on discount or mint (used on swappa) with double the storage, pro motion, sd card slot etc…for a few dollars more
I've been watching Swappa for 16/512 MBP 14, which can had for ~$1800 every day. Time to time they're lower, but those are in less-than-good shape or get snatched up very quick, certainly not an everyday price.

Whereas, a 16/512 MBA M2 with an edu discount and the current BTS gc promo will be $1660 with AC+. And my state happens to have a sales tax holiday coming up in August too...

Overall, I'd say in the 16/512 configs, an brand new MBA M2 with AC+ is about the same price as a used MBP 14. So the question is - do you prioritize weight or "pro" features?

The price on the new Air doesn't place it into obvious buy territory. If you do anything more than document editing and web browsing you'll probably want upgraded SSD and RAM. Wait for a back to school sale if you can.

One laptop is thin and light while the other one isn’t.

The pro doesn’t throttle. Max Tech doesn’t know the meaning of the word. Give me some seed money and I’ll start a better YouTube channel. The air will likely thermal throttle some, though.

Really? If I end up getting one, the MagSafe cable will be collecting dust. My TB-dock obviously charges through the connecting cable and when out on the go I’d rather bring a generic USB-C cable that can charge multiple things.
Newsflash, all laptops throttle. It’s just a matter of when. MaxTech’s understanding of this is greater than yours.

Seems unusual to launch in the middle of summer. Why wouldn’t they announce it at WWDC and just have people wait to order until July?
I imagine Airs are very popular with college students. The new Air launches just before the start of the new school year, which is perfect timing.

There currently is a back to school sale. This model will be eligible for a $150 Apple gift card with purchase. And the education price is also lower to begin with. With that combo, no reseller will beat it even on Black Friday.

Cleared my cache and I can't get it to come up with anything but 512? Other suggestions?
Has to be my browser! Sorry.

Precisely. I was going to get the $1499 M2 Air, but Best Buy had the 14" MacBook Pro on sale for $1799. Faster processor, twice the RAM, same 512GB SSD, larger screen, Mini-LED, ProMotion 120Hz, etc... it was a no-brainer.
Here in the UK the Air M2 is far better value than the 14" Pro, it is far far far better value. I can get way better specs for less money so it is a no brainer to ignore the 14".

M2 Air will appeal to those who must have the latest design (admittedly a pretty sizable segment of Apple fans) but for everyone else, the M1 Air is the more compelling machine… almost 30% cheaper (after discounts online) for similar performance.

And if you bump up M2 Air to 16/512, you’re looking at only $100 less than the 14” MB Pro after recent online discounts.

I honestly find it hard to justify an M2 Air.
Really??? Find it easy as pie, the 14" Pro is dumb idea to buy and almost as dumb as the 13" Pro

Man it’s weird seeing people give out about the notch so much.

Don’t they realise the alternative is just a smaller screen or a keyboard mounted camera that looks up your nostrils? Apple made the right choice.

Having something, anything, helps people to feel better and get through the day.

The flash chip wasn't any slower on the base 13" M2 MBP. It's the same chip as the one on the 512 version. The reason why it's slower is because they cannot write to two chips in parallel. The 256GB chip in the M2 MBP is the same as the two in the 512GB MBP. The likelihood is that there is a shortage of 128GB chips. It's more likely to be a shortage than a cost savings because two chips are generally cheaper than one with the same cumulative capacity.
Oh yeah? if it is not a cost saving measure from penny pincher tight wad Cook then why oh why are they reusing the M1 Pro boxes?
