What I will say is that no one knows what 2 stock options they will offer.

I feel confident saying that the binned GPU with 8/256 will be one.

But the other could be a non binned 8/512 or 16/512.

Which would mean that second non binned option may be available rather quickly and not handicapped by a BTO wait time.

Right, and one of the biggest complaints I have about the MBA M2 is that they didn't make the step up stock configuration 16/512 and instead kept it at 8/512. That makes the 16/512 BTO only which means typical resellers (like BestBuy, Amazon Costco in the US) won't carry it and therefore won't discount it. It also means there will most likely be long wait times.
To make it worse, there are still 2 GPUs and 3 power adapters to choose from, potentially making a lot of those combinations further delayed.

To me if this machine had the same 14” 120Hz screen as the Pro model it would be the most perfect laptop ever.

Even without ProMotion display I still prefer this Air over the MacBook Pro due to slim and portable design and no fan. For my development work, as long as I bump up the RAM, I can get away with not having the Pro/Max chip.

If you click on the "view pricing" section on Apples website it appears to show stock configurations (well in the UK it does anyway)

I bet it will have the same chip. Apple probably ordered up all 256GB chips to streamline production...

The performance will still be excellent for the target market for this machine. If you're doing mainly MS Office, web, Netflix type stuff, the slower (but still very fast SSD) will barely be noticeable. At worst, you'll have time to go to the refridgerator between Final Cut Exports (and you need longer than that you should be on a M1 Pro/Max/Ultra).
I agree. I’m a pilot and fly all over the world. I wanted a machine to match my life. Great battery, great screen, great audio, does everything I want. I wish it had a better file system than finder (windows just seems way better for dealing with a lot of files IMHO) but overall there’s nothing on the market that can match my 13” mbp. Everyone likes to think they’ll edit video and photos but there’s plenty of other reasons to buy these machines. You guys have no idea how great it is being able to plug it into whatever USB socket is next to my hotel bed and charge it.

My only gripe with apple is I wish they’d change the material they’re made out of. I don’t baby anything. I toss it in my bag and get going. Life of flight crew. Sooner or later it gets dinged up. While the chassis and design feels solid and durable, it’s not. It can’t compare to the likes of Thinkpad carbon or the huawei matebook x pro which were spill resistant and more durable. My desktop is a Windows PC but for being mobile there’s nothing better anywhere near its price or we’ll above it.

Fan doesn’t really matter. I’ve NEVER heard it on my 13” M1 pro.

I like the new MacBook Air, but only one thing: do we really need the MagSafe connector? The charging rate is well within the USB-IF Power Delivery 3.0 specs, and Apple could have provided us with an extra USB Type C port instead.

Yes - Aluminum is prone to scratches and dings. I always 'skin' my laptops to prevent scratches without adding bulk and then I still baby them mostly to prevent dings.

I know what you mean about ThinkPads. I had one for many years from my employer, and that thing was one level short of abused. It took a beating and went in and out of bags, picking up only light scratches along the way. I even dropped it from shoulder height once and other than a little bit of a scuff it was perfectly fine. I could never do that with any current Mac. There is something to be said for the older polycarbonate laptops.

i would say 16/512 minimum if you don't wanna get limited!

I'd carefully weigh it against the the $1,800 MBP 14. It has twice the memory and SSD bandwidth. M1 Pro is significantly faster, much better display, speakers, etc. I think those factors outweigh the weight increase.

Will it have the turdy memory of the Pro?

Everybody knows what the 2 stock options are. They're right on the Apple product page.

Nobody asked you nor cares less what you buy or do not buy!

Good for you but nobody cares!

In fact, many of us do care about they posted! Besides, turn it around on yourself:

Nobody asked you what you think of their posts! Ask yourself how many care that you cared so much about what they posted! 😎 This is a forum, with exchange of likes, dislikes, insights, criticisms, etc.
As Larry put it so aptly and succinctly:

You obviously cared enough to reply to it.

On the other hand, to show I respect your opinion, anyway -- your response on this was on target and clever, if blunt, satire!

1) It is the 3rd version so not exactly old
2) When something works and is good why change it just to please people online?
3) Your logic states that cars are idiotic and dumb because they come with the wheel which is about 10,000 years old?

There is nothing wrong with MagSafe.

Nobody asked me, either, but I agree with you that "There is nothing wrong with MagSafe" -- well, except as some others have pointed out, it does take up a port, and, with 18-20 hour battery life, it's not exactly like an aging Intel MBA USB-C that you need close to a power supply -- and where it's easy to drag the cord and even drag the laptop off the table, desk, etc.

Still, it's a welcome return and, with luck, it won't have all the fraying issues of the original one!
