Daayyyum as a Note 10 Plus owner, you guys have made such good statements you are tempting me to get an 11 Pro Max just to try it vs a Note 10 Plus.

In so many replies, No one has mentioned,

A. Better Call quality signal reception with Qualcomm Radio stack and chips
B. Better speakers and sound
C. “Slofies”
D. Better Video
E. $1,100 64GB (so yeah)

A is TBD. Hopefully that's the case. I swore I wouldn't preorder another phone after the xs max so I am trusting apple with my preorder lol.

I have the exact same payment on the 11 Pro Max that I have on the XS Max now. When I saw the price didn’t change from last year, it just made sense to me to pay for the newest phone.

There also things about my XS Max that seem to be addressed in the 11 Pro Max - screen brightness, battery, camera, faster LTE (to be seen).

Plus, I felt like it. I like tech and Apple added some features I’d like to play with. Travel and tech - I’ll spend money on both.

Because I’m not right mentally, and I’m being serious. I love Apple and I love my Iphone XS Max. Is Apple perfect? Is the 11 pro a gigantic leap forward? No. I told myself this will finally be the first generation that I do not upgrade, even though I’m on the Verizon iPhone upgrade plan. I told myself that paying the tax and resetting my payments back to 24 months was not worth the minor upgrades. Let’s be honest, the 11 pro max is a marginal upgrade over the XS max. I watched the keynote ecstatically because I felt as though Apple was making it so easy for me to avoid upgrading by releasing a barely upgraded phone.

However here I sit, seriously contemplating putting a pre order in. In fact I’m 98% sure that I will be pre ordering tonight. I can’t shake the new iPhone experience that I felt dating back to 2006 when I stood in line for the original iPhone. While it’s different, I still reclaim a little of that feeling every time I open the newest iPhone for the first time. I need that feeling. Apple has me, iPhone has me and no matter how hard I try to not upgrade, I simply can’t resist.

So to answer your question, I’m one of those Apple sheep. I don’t want to be. I know it makes me, and my wallet vulnerable. But Apple has me hooked to the point where my judgement on what constitutes a smart, logical purchase is crippled.

Because I get a new iphone on launch day every single year without fail since the first one in 2007. It's just what I do. I always laugh when people say, "I'm waiting for the so and so" and I think, "yeah, me too".
Yeah same here, I miss the fights or line up or camp outs back in the iPhone 5 and 5s days. I remember walking out of a Sprint store on iPhone 5 launch day, telling my buddy I got that last one. And like 3 people in line went off on the store staff. Kept peeking in the window, and saw a lot of arm waiving and finger pointing. By the 6 Plus Launch Sprint bungled my Preorder and ended up gifting me a 6 Plus. And in 2016 my Note 7 blew up and Sprint ended up yet again gifting me a iPhone 7 Plus.

Phone launch day is fun, preorders take the fun out of the day.

Because I always want the latest-n-greatest.

Seriously though...

  • Higher screen brightness (I use it outdoors when flying UAS aircraft)
  • New camera capabilities
  • Faster CPU
  • Increased battery life (3500 mAh)
  • 12 MP front camera
  • LTE Cat 18
  • Midnight Green
  • Matte finish
  • Stronger material (back side and display screen)

Just joking on the LTE item. I have no idea what CAT 18 is. (the Xs Max only supported Cat 16)

Not sure if I do.
Waiting until I can get confirmation on the modem hardware. The LTE and WiFi on my XS Max are fairly pitiful. My previous 8+ was faster and more consistent.

So, wait and see....

So if you already own a iPhone XsMax why are you getting a or why do you want a 11 Pro Max ?

Are the cameras on the XsMax just horrible and unacceptable?

Or why please share your thoughts I genuinely want to know.

bigger battery/better battery life period.

If I do end up grabbing the Silver 256GB 11 Max Pro, you've pretty much captured the essence of why I would do so. I'm already priced in as I own my Xs Max and I could yearly own/upgrade for $650 for the foreseeable future or "hold" if a model comes along that I just absolutely love.

Separately, count me in the the camp that said the 2019 iPhone was DOA, and I was adamant about it. However, that matte finish, better battery life, slofies, overall aesthetic of the 11 Pro has me in it's crosshairs, and I seemingly can't shake it. It's got me looking at my Xs Max in a whole new light (SMDH).

Sigh, at least I was able to resist pre-orders. I don't have a problem waiting to see the phone in person and seeing if it has the same effect. So the jury's still out.

Yep, exactly this. I tend to upgrade my phone every two years (even that is starting to become too soon for some people as phones are lasting longer) but this year is an exception because of the camera.

After a good nights sleep, I finally came up with some genuine reasons.

Apple recently replaced my 2 and a half year old MacBook Pro with a brand new model due to issues they caused during the replacement of the keyboard under the replacement program. Thus saving me a fortune, seems only fair to spend some of that saving on a new phone. Thanks Apple.

My daughter lost her xs max and has been getting by with a smaller phone and me getting this helps her as she gets my old phone. Not hearing her continually complain will be nice.

I bought my xs max in the US last year on release day and saved a fortune compared to the UK prices.

I quite like the military green look of the phone.

I was going to buy the new watch but as they didn't really make any changes (that would appeal to me personally) I'm going to wait a year and buy the new one next year in the US. I just hope that not having that compass doesn't mean I get lost.

Of course I wouldn't have just purchased a new phone if it was exactly the same as the one I have, the slight improvements (I never run out of battery so that might be a bigger issue for you) along with some half decent reasons above made me decide to order. I order one every year and sometimes I cancel, this year I didn't and won't.

Exactly the same reason for me. I'm on the IUP and wasn't going to bother upgrading this year, but figured why not as I'd still be paying the same amount (for 9 months at least). I'm not a big camera user, but the battery, better Face ID, etc are a bonus. The XS Max is the best phone I've ever had and the screen still wows me, so can't wait for more of the same, even if it is just subtle changes.

I know you can get better deals than going with the IUP, but I love the convenience and the Apple Care+ means I might be brave enough to go caseless again. I tried last year, but bottled it after getting a scratch on day 2.

I've loved my XS Max, but there are several things I'm excited for with the 11 Pro Max:

  • That camera tech. I take a lot of photos and videos, so any improvement to the camera system is highly appreciated, and this seems to be a pretty big one
  • Faster CPU, GPU, Neural Engine, etc. Better performance is always a plus, especially when things like the matrix multiplication ASIC (not really an ASIC, but close enough) will allow the phone to do other amazing things in a timely fashion (Deep Fusion, Night Mode, etc)
  • Hugely improved battery life despite the extra performance. 5 more hours on a Max sized phone? Very, very nice.
  • Better display. Brightness took a huge leap with the 11 Pro phones. Same with contrast ratio. Since virtually all our interaction with the phone is through the display, these are good things. It'll be even easier to see outside in bright light!
  • Faster FaceID and better angles. Again, FaceID is used every time I pick up the phone (to unlock), and often multiple times during a session (credential verification, etc). This is also a nice quality of life improvement.
  • Hugely improved front camera. Bumped from 7MP to 12. Also, better video out of it, including the ability to do slo-mo and 4K@60FPS!
  • Better water proofing. Yes, the XS phones were also IP68, but not all '8's are equal. The XS phones were rated at 2m for 30 mins. The 11 series phones are rated at 4m for 30 minutes. That's a big difference.
  • Those finishes! I'm still torn between the Midnight Green and the Space Grey, but those matte finishes and new color are great.

So, yeah. A lot to look forward to. :)

Really good summary. The ones that were most persuasive to me were (from your list), in the order of importance to me:

  • Faster FaceID and better angles. Again, FaceID is used every time I pick up the phone (to unlock), and often multiple times during a session (credential verification, etc). This is also a nice quality of life improvement.
  • Hugely improved battery life despite the extra performance. 5 more hours on a Max sized phone? Very, very nice.

Because of iUP program. Program only makes sense if I upgrade every year and I don't want a hard credit pull next year.
I have a Max. And had one year left of payments. I wasn’t going to get a new one. But i figured that i should anyway. Cause i was planning on trading my phone next year for a 5g phone. So i figured what the heck? Might as well. And then next year trade my 11 pro in for next year’s model.

Okay... I said I wasn't upgrading which I'm not. I did mention in other threads that I was hoping to score an XS, but none on Apple's website is available (and no I'm not buying from a 3rd party and get scammed). I am already an owner of an XS Max, but I do like the size of the XS, therefore I may purchase an 11 Pro Midnight Green. But I am waiting near Thanksgiving to make the purchase so I can take advantage of trying it out for 2 months should I decide to return it. Apple has that extended holiday return policy should I decide the 11 Pro is too small after having my XS Max for almost a year now. Comfort, the ability to read is far more important to me than form (size).

Why the 11 Pro? Because it's the latest and once again, I am after the footprint and Apple isn't selling the left over stock of the XS Brand New non-refurbished. At work or at the gym, I have the XS Max always in my front pocket and it's just odd there. And if I hold onto it, I risk the possibility of dropping as I have with prior iPhones. I actually did like when the X was first released but waited for then rumored XS Max and scored that instead.

My main reasons before the event were wireless reverse charging, 6gb ram, Apple Pencil support and night mode. After the event, night mode and improved battery life so it’s kinda hard to justify the purchase but my wife wants to replace her 6plus so I might just do it for her :)
